Sequel On Hold

cloverfieldpic.jpg

The guy who directed Cloverfield revealed that plans for a sequel have been put on hold until the filmmakers can come up with an idea as 'interesting' as the original.

Hopefully that will never happen!

They're trying to find new ways to make movie goers puke?

"The thing that we sort of promised ourselves is we only wanted to do another one if we could come up with something that felt as fresh to us to make as that one did," said the director.

So there's a good chance we may see nothing at all?

Some of the ideas for the next film include a prequel that would go into the backstory of the creature that attacks New York in the original or a parallel story set on the same night with different characters.

The Cloverfield director said that both of those ideas have been under discussion.

Would U see the sequel?

The Sequel should be just as good, if not better than the first one.

Perez' thought process is so skewed he's thinking "how would 2 major disasters of this kind happen and be believable?" well, jackass, look for
the sequel to be about the original … there was more than one person shooting a camera somewhere in N.Y. that night … and that's the way they should go with it ….. however if they go with a 2nd disaster … holy crap i'll never watch another movie again cause that WOULD suck.

YESSSS!!!! I LOVED the first one! I thought i was very well done. Especially for a movie filmed with a cam corder….i didn't even notice the shakiness. It was very authentic.

Re: CityG – Get over yourself.

"Cloverfield" was really disappointing. It was a great idea but very poorly executed. JJ should concentrate on finishing Lost before he makes a "Cloverfield II".

See you in at the SF Centre tomorrow Perezito!!!

    119

I would actually watch the sequel….I find it interesting that mainstream american producers support an unconventional idea instead of doing remakes of old movies or sequels to others….however…that's the crap the american audience wants…..

The movie wasn't GREAT, but it sure wasn't as bad as most of the shit Hollywood spews forth.

  23. Doria says – reply to this

    123

I loved the first film because it looks so real and everything is so full of feelings the film. And from that moment my mind is constantly thinking the possibility of sequels that I believe that if they maintain the level of the first (and so I think it is the intention of JJ Abrams) will be very interesting chapters of a series of films. Kisses for you, hermano from España!

    i loved cloverfield

  40. me>yo says – reply to this

    140

Are you people really so self conceited that you call other people down for their own preference in movies? Really, if people liked it then they did, where do you guys get to call people retards or whatever for doing so?

I liked the movie, and I would see the sequel. I can't believe so many of you are saying you got nausea from watching it. Couldn't walk for a week? Really, get over it.

  41. poop says – reply to this

    141

it made people puke? really? why? when the girl's head exploded? i guess i hadn't heard that it made people sick. i thought it was a really good movie. we watch worse violence in other movies.

  42. tiffk says – reply to this

    142

that movie was awesome. I'd see a sequel.

  43. poop says – reply to this

    143

oooohhhhhhhhh. because the camera shook so much. i saw it on dvd, so it didn't make me sick. never mind. i guess i could see how it would do that. i'd love to see one with another camera in the city that night. but not another monster in addition. that would be completely superfluous.

  44. Amand says – reply to this

    144

I think I would like to see what they could come out with it better be good!

  45. cloud says – reply to this

    145

fuck no….seriously the movie was a fucking joke…..i shouldve been paid to see that crap

  46. Maris says – reply to this

    146

They better do a sequel/prequel - it's the only thing that makes sense! I think it'd be smart to first do a prequel explaining Slusho's involvment in how the monster was created. Then, for the next one, they should do a sequel to the first movie on what happened next - I don't think they need to do the whole handy cam first person actiol again though! If they don't do another movie - whether it be prequel or sequel - then I'll definitely agree that the first one was useless…it just didn't give enough explanation of what was happening and why!

  47. Adam says – reply to this

    147

YES I WOULD SEE IT 10 TIMES I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE SAYS .. IT WAS THE BEST MOVIE OF THE YEAR

  48. c-los says – reply to this

    148

hell yes! You're a fat piggy with no talent perez

  49. F NO! says – reply to this

    149

I had hopes for this movie but it totally sucked (*unless your a 14 yr old boy with no clue). The whole shakey camera bit is way overrated. Even when the person could totally be holding it straight and balanced…they don't…making it more forced and obvious of their attempt at "technique". This film gives you nothing but a FRICKIN' HEADACHE….LAME…and so are the people that liked it!

  50. Polly says – reply to this

    150

The reason you guys didn't like it, is because it was a love story. Everyone wanted this graphic, realistic monster movie, but what you got was a romance chick flick that made you vomit. Forget about taking your BFF's to "Sex in the City". Rent this with your girls and swoon!

  51. Ideas says – reply to this

    151

Think Godzilla meets the Blair Witch Project-oooh that does very well in our focus groups. The kids these days are so undemanding. We are calling the sequel Simple Projects for Simple Minds or in the back room "Big Bucks From Dumb Fucks!"

  52. Les says – reply to this

    152

Yes, I would see the prequel with the story on the monster. ONLY so I could know what THE hell was going on in that WACK movie!

  53. Rene says – reply to this

    153

Yes, I would see it. It was good. I was smart enought to take Dramamine before the show.

  54. JULIE says – reply to this

    154

INTERESTING THING PEOPLE DON'T SEEM TO KNOW BUT ABOUT CLOVERFIELD::: EVEN THOUGH THE END OF THE MOVIE KINDA SUCKED CUZ EVERYONE DIED (sorry if i ruined that, big shocker!) BUT DO YOU KNOW WHY THE MOVIE WAS CALLED "CLOVERFIELD" IN THE FIRST PLACE?? ANYONE???? CLOVERFIELD WAS WHAT THE UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT RENAMED MANHATTAN AFTER THE MILITARY HAD TO BLOW UP THE ENTIRE CITY AT THE END OF THE MOVIE. YOU CAN CHECK THAT, IT'S TRUE. Okay it's fictional truth, but whatever. I just found it a bit intriguing and i think that because of that little known fact, the sequel might actually be pretty interesting, at least… i think so ;D

  55. 155

i want to see a sequel explaining the monster and at the same time explaining the aftermath of new york, since manhattan DID get bombed

  56. 156

Re: JULIE – No its actually the code name of the operation of bombing manhattan

Cloverfield wasn't a bad movie. A couple of the characters were annoying but overall, it was a good ride. I'd consider the sequel if the story is original.

  62. tiger says – reply to this

    162

yes i would see a sequel. what gives you any authority to determine what might, be entertaining, fresh, OR original. go doodle a dick and think of new couple names and leave the movie making to people who actually try to create something.

    165

I LOVED THE MOVIE. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT FROM DIFFERENT CHARACTERS, I KNOW AT THE END OF THE CREDITS YOU HEAR WHAT SOUNDS LIKE "HELP ME" MAYBE ROB AND THAT GIRL LIVED….. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT PICK UP FROM PEOPLE OUTSIDE NYC GETTING THE INFO AND WHAT IT IS. I KNOW IT'S SOMETHING FROM OUTERSPACE THAT FELL INTO THE OCEAN. BUT THIS WAS A BABY MONSTER, WHAT HAPPENED IF ITS MOTHER CAME FOR IT? DOES ROB SURVIVE?

  66. EP says – reply to this

    166

    Yes, I would.

  67. Alibe says – reply to this

    167

I wasn't sure about this movie for the first 10 minutes or so, but once you get used to the different camera viewpoint, it's not bad. I'd definitely say they should develop a better story though, because the first one was kind of lame. It's like, Ok, there's a monster and everyone is scared. But how did the monster get there? Where is it from? Where is everyone going when they flee the city? Are there more monsters? I don't think they should've expected the "special effects" and witty teenage banter to carry the entire movie. I got really bored halfway through, and all of the characters seemed so predictable and cheesy - like some made-for-tv disney channel movie.
So, they should pick better actors. Actually, now that I think about it - the movie wasn't that great. It was kind of boring. So if they make another one, it better be more interesting.

  68. Sammi says – reply to this

    168

Alright First of all Yes I would go and second
For all thos epeople bashing th emovie cause they say it was filmed by an eight year old, get over yourselves. The movie was made to be seen through the eyes of someone in that exact moment as it was happenning, its a new interesting way to film action/horror pics, obviously if u have a queezy stomach dont go see it douchebags. It was a good movie. wicked sweet graphics:)

  92. Vanes says – reply to this

    192

I would but it would depend on how it is done. I really liked the first one but I think it would have been so much better if it hadn't been shot it first person. It reminded me waaayyy to much of The Blair Witch Project. That is what made it suck. I think the ideas both soud great. But it needs to be shot in a different way. They do that and I'll see it. If not then no. That's all…

  96. The J says – reply to this

    196

Good lord… there are so many people who are fucking idiots leaving comments. People getting sick over shaky cameras? It wasn't even /that/ shaky. You want to see shaky, then go watch Blair Witch. I work at a video store and I deal with people giving stupid assanine stuff like that and the whole 'You don't see anything!' defenses as to why the movie sucked. That was the point! You see what they see, and you use your own fucking imagination to try and determine what it is before they have a CLOSE UP SHOT of the monster. How much more do you need to see? Its bowels?

Anyway, as to the sequel, I'd see it. Saying that though, sequels rarely live up to the originals anyway, so it'll probably effectively ruin Cloverfield for those of us who did enjoy it in the first place.

  97. erin says – reply to this
