The Hollywood Reporter says that The Late Show With David Letterman tied its lowest-ever adults 18-49 rating since 1993 last week.
Is it Dave?
Why have people stopped tuning in to his show????

I have always been a letterman fan…way better than Leno. But Kimmel is what Conan was in 1993…fresh and hip…only with a better timeslot.
Dave USED to be funny. He has gotten LAZY since his open heart surgery and the birth of his son. He used to do more on location skits. Also, he uses people who just aren't funny, ie Sue Hung (not sure about her name). She is a miserable old Asian lady who just simply is the OPPOSITE of funny. I try to watch him but honestly, it is getting harder and harder and I have been watching him for about 20 years! Dave used to be cool, now he just seems like an old man who makes mistakes and just doesn't seem to care about his show any more and if HE doesn't care, why should we watch him?!?!?!?!
Letterman is best!! I don't know about anyone else, but I personally haven't even really turned my tv on all summer because I already know nothing is on.

No one is watching Letterman because he is not funny. I have said this for years, and people are finally getting it. He has guests come on the show that he hates, and is openly rude to them. His material is never funny, and he is boring. People will disagree, but the ratings prove my point.
KIMMEL is the show to watch now. Funnier, younger, great music. Leno is awful. Dave is past freshness.
I stopped watching because I cannot stand Paul and they way that he and Dave interact. Paul is the only one laughing at the lame jokes. It is time to find a funnier replacement than Dave. Hell, even Leno is out.
I don't watch the late night talk shows that much anymore because I am sick of the celebrity guests. I do love Letterman though, but his show is stale. He was great on NBC when he used to go out into the street, had Larry "Bud" Melman, guests like Teri Garr and had fresh skits. Now it's the same skits, "will it float," "know Your cuts of meat," etc… Rupert is a snooze. Frankly, he seems tired of doing the show.

It's because of Paul Shaffer - that guy is way too full of himself and just creeps me out. I don't see him as a musical talent at all.
Always watch him - never Kimmel or Leno, and he was BRILLIANT with O'Reilly, as with other conservative buffoons.
Dave's always been funny, but never as good as the old days when Merrill Markoe was his head writer.
he sucks…and it's sad how he has new episodes and low ratings while Leno is having REPEATS.
The only good thing about his show is that he puts on some great musical acts. Other than that - the show is just the same old, same old.

I used to watch Letterman years ago when he was not so rude and liberal biased and frankly, he was funnier back then? Can't stand Paul Shaeffer sp? and that was another reason I went to Jay Leno. He at least is respectful and alot funnier and I like his diversified show spots like "headlines" and when he does interviews on the street, for example?
People prefer to watch Jay because he puts them to sleep, and they have to get up at 730 AM to go to work. Letterman's show is hyperactive and keeps people awake. Everyone here seems to know Spencer and Heidi were on Letterman, but (without looking) can you name 2 guests who were on Jay Leno last month?

Dave's show is stale, routine and condescending. And, yes Leno is much funnier. I find it unbelievable that unfunny Conan will soon replace leno.
The reason why I don't like Letterman's show because I despise the way he acts whenever a woman is on there. Especially a beautiful, successful woman. This guy is so intimidated by powerful and beautiful women that he makes the shows so awkward. He does not know how to act around them, never has unless it's a dumb and weak female like Paris Hilton, than he can just stomp all over her.

I totally agree with Vanes. I watched last night because my favorite comedian, Jim Gaffigan, was on and it was totally ackward. Dave's jokes were totally lame and his guests seemed uncomfortable. Out of all the late night shows I think Conan and Kimmel are the best.

I love Dave. Watch him and tolerate some of the bad writing as of late. I think the deal to come back before the strike (writers) was over was a big mistake. It has hurt him. Sometimes I think his heart isn't in it anymore and he is just hanging on to say he lasted longer than Jay. I love Dave…..I get Dave…….the true fans will stick it out with him!!!!
Why does this show get excellent guests? It's the most bizarre talk show ever. He says random annoying things and the guests do a pretend chuckle to cover their embarrassment. His humour and even the look of the show are completely outdated and now clearly unwanted.

I stopped watching him because he just got too political. I'm sick of hearing his stupid jokes againts elected officials and candidates that just arent funny. I used to watch his show to escape the political madness, but then Dave jumped on the bandwagon and got on the political gripe train too. PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO HEAR THIS IN ENTERTAINMENT. They just don't. Can his falling ratings (And don't forget Oprah's) finally get it through their skulls? Dave used to be a pioneer in showbusiness, now he just kisses ass for stupid stars just like him, who think they make a difference in the world (which they dont, get a clue) His ratings suck beacuse his attitude sucks and he thinks his jokes are funny. Yawn.
Dumbass forgets about firefighters and policeman who lost their lives in that very city on a day we'll never forget. Now 911 is nothing but a punchline to him and he's lost a ton of fans that way. We may be the younger audience but we're not stupid. I know Hollywood would like us to be though.

He's dull, he's unhappy to be there, and his jokes are lame and so are those stupid skits they do. i.e. "Will it Float". It's like he is mocking the audience with 'tarded skits like that. I prefer Conan, Craig Ferguson, and Jimmy Kimmel.
This is no surprise - Letterman is so boring, not entertaining and just plain not funny. Why does every segment have to be corny and have cheesy music? Craig Ferguson or, and I'm just being hopeful, Jay Leno should take over!

I love Letterman. He's very funnier lately, but his humor is very odd and not everyone's cup of tea. Letterman has guts and a brain. That speech he gave after 9/11 was inspired, and completely off the cuff. He has a heart if you bother to notice, particularly after his son was born. After his heart surgery, he had all the doctors and nurses on to personally thank them by name. And he's one of the best interviewers in late night TV, particularly when he's interested in the guest. It becomes a conversation, rather than a lame list of questions (Leno, I'm talking to you.) Leno doesn't make me laugh and seems to be a talking face rather than any personality. No guts. Just a network guy.
Letterman is the man.

I can only watch for a few minutes, until the man with real talent, Craig Furgeson, comes on after Dave. Dave is a liberal jerk, that is boring and is a lousy interviewer. Craig runs circles around Dave and Leno….and Craig enjoys being an American unlike Dave and Leno and the rest of the liberal assholes that make fun of George Bush and conservatives…I've tuned out long ago and wish Johnny was back for a nice laugh before going to bed, but I'll take Craig any day of the week.

I was a big fan 10 years ago — rarely missed his show. He's now become way, way too liberal politically and mean-spirited about it. I just don't find him funny anymore.

Mean, sophmoric and predictable. Just not funny. The people running through the set yelling curses is just offensive. Dave can stand on his own without that kind of crap - stupid pet tricks, good opening dialogue and not being mean or ironic with the guests. Need to go back to the class act generation of Johnny Carson.
I think Dave has not moved on with the times… the thing with him, his attitude and format never change and it has been the same since the very beginning.
I am 42 years old and consider myself to be one of his "original" fans … we smoked more bowls and ate more pizza rolls in college watching this guy than you could run and jump over kids, lol. Simply put, Dave just is not funny any more. The reason? He comes across as an mildly angry, semi-bitter guy who doesn't seem to like doing the job he does anymore. He doesn't seem to like his guests or have any real interest in the topics he is required to joke about. He used to be this refreshing, cutting edge kind of humorist who made stuff as silly as dipping himself into water dressed in an alka-seltzer suit or flinging himself against a wall clad in velcro suite absolutely side-splitingly funny. I love you Dave, and thanks for all the laughs, but maybe you should move on to something that makes you happy. You don't seem to like doing your show anymore. And it shows.

I have been watching Dave since July 4, 1980, when he had a noon show and did a "fireworks" display from the rooftop in NYC. Of course, you couldn't see anything, but everyone oooed and awwed, and it was freakin hilarious. I have tried to watch him EVERY SINGLE NIGHT since then. He is the best late night host ever and as proof, one only had to watch him with Will Smith the other night. Hilarious. For the life of me, I can't understand why people watch Jay Leno. He has viewers submit material that he just reads off and he is so unfunny and boring. LONG LIVE DAVE!

I LOVE Dave. I don't think he is mean-spirited. When he was younger, he DID give guests a hard time and I do think he was mean-spirited. He used to even be mean to Paul. But that was YEARS AGO. Then he grew out of it, especially after he had his son. He's really NICE now, and MELLOW, and just seems to really ENJOY the show from one moment to the next and not take himself too seriously. So I started watching again, and I really enjoy him. As for Leno, Leno has never made one funny joke in his life. Leno is horrible! And USE TIVO, FOLKS. I also watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert, which I can Tivo in addition to Letterman and Ferguson.

If I wanted to watch a liberal dickhead, I'd watch one that was actually funny, like John Stewart. Letterman was good and revolutionary in the 80s, but now he just does the same damn thing over and over again. His writers are awful and his/their humor is on the level of a 12 year old.

david letterman is the MAN! I don't care what the polls say..as long as he is on the air I'll watch him. the others don't compare. SOME guests feel awkward but they are still on/play the show. the theatre is supposed to cold anyway. :/ go Dave, GO!
