This is so completely sad and ignorant and wrong. How is it legal to prosecute someone for doing something in ANOTHER state? And why does 59 freaking percent of Wisconsin STILL think in terms of 1 man 1 woman? How is this still going on???
wqell considering the fact that California overstepped their bounds and went against the constitution to enable gay couples to mary in the first place… hey, heaven forbid that states enable laws per the consituants votes!
Re: URDUM – - I absolutely agree. I can't imagine why everyone needs to continue down the road of hatred toward the minority. Years ago, way before the waves of human rights activists, women couldn't vote, anyone who wasn't white wasn't really considered a person, and children were treated as property (and beaten as such).
When we see it nowadays, there's always a public uproar. It's absolutely abhorrent to see people with the same ignorant views of the brainwashed religions. Yes, religions. This is the same BS that's fed down a child's throat when they're young so that they're educated into believing the same as their parents.
What happened to moving forward with human rights? What happened to furthering ourselves as a singular human race, instead of sects of it, cut off from one another through biased arrogance and blind hatred? We folks of the world need to give our heads a shake and really think about what's important: a human being's basic rights to love one another or a version of morality that's so far removed that no one even understands it anymore?
And by the way? If you really, REALLY give a damn about the HIV/AIDS epidemic, you'll get all of your facts in order before stapling the issues onto gay men (especially).
first of all, your readers need to take some english classes–"persecuted"? really? grab a dictionary, fool.
second of all, thats interesting because i live in wisconsin and recently a gay couple got married in my city and was bright enough to post the marriage announcement in the local newspaper…i would be interested to know if there are actually any consequences or if that's something that perhaps exists but will never actually be put into action.
I'm also from wisconsin and its' stuff like this that makes me ashamed to be from wisonsin. I mean what is the big deal with who marrys whom. I don't get it. So much for america being a free country.
this is an old law meant to stop young couples (meaning very young… under 18) from going to another state and coming back to live as "married adults" when they legally are not.
also, juliane appliane, quoted in the article is a tool. no one will look to enforce this. REDUNK
that is insane!!! What is happening to people? JUST LET ANYONE GET MARRIED THAT WANTS TO GET MARRIED, ITS NONE OF YOUR DAMN BUSINESS!
We have a family friend that is gay. Half of his family will no longer speak to him because of it.
UUUUUUGGHHHH THIS IS SO ANNOYING
thats so illegal!!! States must honor contracts formed in other states which SHOULD include marriage contracts but this country is fulllll of fake, hatefilled people so they don't when it comes to marriage. But then to try and impose a fine on that as well?? How bout a fine for drivers licenses from other states? A fine for contractors from other states? HYPOCRITES!!! THis country scares me, i feel like we're ruled by a Nazi regime!
I'm from Wisconsin and gay, and once again I'm extremely disappointed in my state. After the constitutional amendment came up a few years ago, I didn't think they could make it worse. Well, I guess I was wrong about that!
Ha ha, two WI articles in a row. I'm like it.
.
Hey, if it were up to me, gays could get married here in Wisconsin, and we'd have all the techno raves and butt pirating you could ask for. Unfortunately it's up to the couple of conservative dumbasses actually in office. What can we do?
Wouldn't it be great for some gay rights organization to cover this couple's legal costs and allow them to get married in CA and challenge the law in Wisconsin? Might make a great test case…
Isn't that against federal law? First of all, a same-sex marriage isn't recognized by federal law anyhow, because of that bill signed by Clinton, and second of all, I'm pretty sure that there's a federal law that says any license in one state must be recognized by all states. So Wisconsin doesn't have to recognize it (because its not federally recognized) but I'm pretty sure that prosecuting it is illegal.
Stupid hick dairy farmer conservative pricks in the rest of the damn state voting on dumb ass laws and fucking over all the cool people in Dane County (where Madison is). Fucking pisses me off, and makes me proud to be a Madison politician.
Being from Milwaukee and having TONS of gay friends, I DO NOT understand why the government won't legalize gay marriages!!???!!!? If two people love each other, than so be it. Who cares if if the couple is a girl-guy, guy-guy-girl-girl. As long as you love each other deeply (I'd say the couple in Madison loves each other unconditionally if they were together for, what, 12 years it is?) it should not matter. And don't knock Wisconsin. Not everyone feels that the state should abandon gay marriages so quit being so fuckin' ignorant and look at both sides.
Re: Rambova – But they AREN'T going to prosecute? Did anyone actually read the article? They aren't going to prosecute people who do marry in California, so go ahead and try, but you will be disappointed when they come back and find they are facing no criminal charges!

Stay Strong in Your Beliefs Wisconsin!
I live in Wisconsin and I voted no for gay marriage because I believe it wasn't the right time to allow it yet and I still don't.
this has nothing to do with the views of the people in Wisconsin.
Madison is one of the most liberal cities in the states and Milwaukee is home to one of the largest pride festival out there.
This post should be "dear Wisconsin politicians"… Don't chastise an entire state.

Think about it.
I live in wisconsin and let me just say wisconsin is one of the best places to live, especially madison… so the hatters out there can suck it!

I'm incredibly ashamed of my state. I think I might have to write my congressman a letter - this is unacceptable.
Stupid world and all its homophobes.
