The Fall Out Boy bassist just posted the following on his blog:

People shouldn't have to accept this type of behavior. I cant believe its 2008 and there are still so many ignorant people out there. There is no need to call someone the "n" word or any other derogatory name, based on their skin color or sexual orientation. I agree with what Pete said and I dont think he is overreacting at all. I wish Travis wouldnt have hit the guy, but why do people have to be racist? We are all human beings and we are all equal. There is no superior race. I am glad Pete is blogging about this incident. Someone needs to. Its unacceptable to call people harsh words and not just based on skin color.

I find it odd that Pete chose now to say something agianst the use of the "N" word…considering a black guy called another black guy that word. I'd be curious to see Pete's music collection and if there is any gangsta rap in there, where the "N" word is repeated over and over again. The word is either offensive to him or it isn't…context is irrelevant. If you need to place your anger on any word or phrase based strictly on the color of someone's skin, then you might want to rethink who else might be the racist.

" ANYONE saying that word is a true EMBARRASSMENT to this country. I feel like the issue here isnt that a white or black person said but that PEOPLE in general still use FN dumb words like that. I totally agree with him. If someone called my friend a racial or hate based slur, I'd be right in the crowd with them bashing faces. It's sad to me that people can say hurtful things, terrible things whenever they want that crush your soul, but if you act out physically you're the one that's wrong. Violence is violence and words can be more powerful than fists. It's fact. Kids kill themselves over cruel things that are said to them every day because they don't know how to cope.

Terrible incident, but this is precisely what Jesus meant when he said "turn the other cheek." To say "I hate haters" is to NOT get the message. Jesus also said "forgive them, for they know not what they do." Believe it or not, I'm not a particularly religious person. I think Jesus,like Ghandi and Buddah and Nelson Mandela, are all rebels whose message of peace begins within…..and that means rising above those people who can't/won't/don't know how to be respectful. In Canada you can get from two to 14 years in prison for propogating hate speech against a identifiable group or individual. Similar laws exist in the UK, Australia, much of the European Union, and on and on.

I think Pete was really corageous for posting this. He didn't have to defend Travis, but because he is a good friend and believes in equality, he did. Obviously he doesn't care if he loses fans over this, because it's right vs. wrong, and that's what matters. What that dude at Warped Tour did was terribly wrong. He had no reason to call Travis what he did. He doesn't know Travis, and he has probably never met Travis. I have, and I can say that he is one of the sweetest dudes ever. He, nor anyone else, deserves to be degraded like that. I don't necessarily believe that bashing some dude's head with a microphone was the right way to react, but the guy did assult Travis, both verbally and physically. I think that Travis reacted how many people would react in that sort of situation. And I think Pete reacted accordingly when it comes to defending their friend when something like this happens.
