Stone Gossard (guitar) and Jeff Ament (bass) who later were in Mother Love Bone, whose singer Andrew Wood died of a heroin OD in 1990; led to the Temple of Dog tribute album which introduced Eddie Vedder for the first time and Mike McCready (the other P-Jam guitarist). Mudhoney came in the mid-late 80's and Pearl Jam's first Album was in '92. Incredible to think two such different yet respected bands originated from the ORIGINAL GRUNGE BAND, Green River! Your logic that leads you to think Mudhoney was the first grunge band might stem from the fact that (I forget exactly which year) sometime between 81-83, Mark Arm described the emerging scene as "grunge". That's right folks, Mark Arm of Green River, and then Mudhoney, invented that word.
