A Hollywoodland production company has teamed up with major Colombian players to bring the "Colombian hostage rescue" to the big screen.
Vertigo Entertainment has struck a deal with a Colombian television network and production outfit RCN to tell the the story of last week's dramatic rescue of former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, 3 Americans and 11 other hostages from the hands of rebel group FARC, who kidnapped them.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, while many in LaLaLand were vying for the rights to the dramatic story, Vertigo had the inside track on securing the rights due to the company's relationship with RCN.
Vertigo worked with RCN to secure remake rights to the Colombian film Al Final del Espectro, and has set up the project at Universal with the working title At the End of the Spectra.
Sidenote: Vertigo is also behind one of the summer's scariest flicks, The Strangers.
We wonder who'll be cast as Ingrid.

I say Penelope Cruz will play Ingrid. They look similar.
I think its great and will be very interesting to see their plight and subsequent rescue on film. Anybody wanting to know more about what Ingrid went through, please read "Letter to My Mother" published by her children.
Catalina Sandino- She looks like her, is Colombian, and is an amazing actress … she was in the movie "Maria Full of Grace"… google it.. you'll see they kinda look alike… other actresses that I love are Penelope Cruz, and I love Shakira - so like some of the other people mentioned, that would be a great role for her 1st movie.

This story has been SO fascinating to me and CNN even ran the HBO special last weekend called "The Kidnapping of Ingrid Bettencort" which goes back several years and it's a coincidence that now she's free and the special could run under this new light of her freedom! We should WAKE UP in America that we have it pretty fucking good to not have an internal civil war with one group kidnapping and killing and the other trying to strive for peace. I am not surprised that the freaks on your site don't give a shit about any of this. I would expect nothing less from them.

This is an amazing story. I listened to this news last week and each and everytime her freedom was announced I had tears in my eyes…what a happy ending!! My only concern with a movie verison is that I think that the facts will be rewritten and it will be the US Marines who rescue her.

I totally see Angelina Jolie, in a prosthetic nose, a la Nicole Kidman in "The Hours". Ang is great with accents, is of French-Canadian ancestry, (Mom, Marcheline Bertrand), and likely already speaks some french. She is skinny enough, (when not pregnant), and has the acting chops.
Celine Dion-she is the spitting image. Doubt she can act though.

It's weird, I know, but when I first saw that picture above I thought of Ricky Lake. She kind of looks like Ricky Lake. Not saying she's the right person for the role or anything, just strictly facial similarity in my opinion.
This woman was kidnapped for 6 whole years & was, according to freed hostages, on the verge of death. She was the FARC's most important hoastage. Suddenly, she is freed because the kidnappers were tricked into handing her over to people pretending to be aid workers. Next day, she is appearing all over the TV looking fresh-faced, calm & well-rested & soon, flying around the world meeting up with world leaders. Wouldn't she have needed at least a couple of weeks to recover first???? Something is very, VERY wrong with this whole story.

Ingrid is not of french ancestry, lol. She got that name from her ex-husband! She was born in colombia, but studied in Paris for a while which is why she speaks french. Her kids are half french, but she aint.

Well i think the whole Spanish/French speaking thing is a moot point unless they are planning on shooting the movie in those languages and having subtitles. If the movie will be shot in English then who cares if they can speak the spanish or french?? But look-wise i agree that Catalina sandino looks most like her.
