His name is….
Levi Alves McConaughey.
Mateo explains's the name's significance, saying, "Levi was another name for the apostle Matthew in The Bible. They were, in fact, two names for the same person. Our son was born at 6:22 pm, and this particular time represents my favorite verse in the book of Matthew in The Bible: 'If thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light.'"
Baby Levi's middle name is taken directly from his mother Camila's last name. "We wanted to incorporate her family name," explains the proud new father.
To all the well-wishers and fans, Matthew and Camila have also released the following statement:
"We welcome Levi Alves McConaughey into this wonderful life and look forward to living in it with him. In the mean time and all times, just keep livin'."

I gotta say I am little disgusted by all the insults being hurled his way for giving their son a biblical name. First of all religion is an extremely personal and private thing, just because he "enjoys life" doesn't mean he couldn't be spiritual. Have you ever MET a surfer? Most of them are totally of the spiritual mindset, talk to one sometime, they all are about mother nature and the higher being. That doesn't make them Jesus freaks, and quoting a bible verse doesn't make Matthew one either. Alot of people, religious and non-religious have a favorite verse, I know I do and I question the existence of God often and believe that I, myself, have completely lost all faith in a higher being and also enjoy sleeping in on Sunday mornings. But there is something about a favorite bible verse that gives the person a wonderful feeling of being uplifted, it has nothing to do with religion it's human nature to have good and bad feelings about certain things.
Also, as I stated before, biblical names are "classic" names, they NEVER go out of style, thats why in the thousands of years before and after Christ's death people have been naming their kids, Mary, Matthew, Michael, and yes, even Levi.

And lets face it, out of all the names that this couple could have named their son, (Pilot Inspektor, Apple?) they chose a "normal" and "sane" name that wont get the kid's ass kicked up and down the playground in 3rd grade.
If you dont like the name, so be it, you can name your kid whatever you like and no one gets to say boo, but quit it with the religious BS because it's not a good argument and all you people are doing is making yourselves look like biggots and an assholes.

Well that's sweet, and I'm sure that is one cute baby.
I am somewhat puzzled by Matt's ramblings about god lately. Somehow I doubt god was on his mind when he was arrested playing the bongo's naked (and under the influence of something) a few years ago.
Another thing that made my skin crawl was the VERY detailed announcement he made when he announced that they were expecting. It was almost slightly disgusting "Camilla and myself made a baby together and what a spiritual experience it was. I impregnated Camilla on November 8th at about 7 a.m and it was a beautiful experience. The act of sex was highlighted by my coming within Camilla, and giving her the gift of my sperm" (might be slightly overdoing it there, but try and find the press release and you'll know what I mean) By the time I was finished reading it I was feeling slightly sick and thought: right, they were drunk and he got her up the spout !!

The name is cute but Matt is being hypocritical. He has no room when it come to talking about the bible. He get a woman pregnant and then won't marry her and then has the baby out of wedlock.

When a baby is born out of wedlock it is not unusual that the baby will have both last names of the parents, this is done in many places, my sister living in England recently had a baby and she is not married. She joined both names together and we are Swiss.

Brazilians are unique and different with our own culture, mores, and all else. Yes, most of us are Catholic but not in the traditional way it is practised else where. The protestant faith is making strong headway into the country, don't know yet if that is good or bad. Alves is a very common Portuguese name in Brasil. Matt has a drinking problem I think. I don't think she should marry him until he stops drinking so much.
Awww … we named our son (born in December) out of the Bible too. The Book of Matthew has some of the most powerful messages in the Bible and it just goes to show you how being spiritual can affect your choices. Beautiful name

I personally love the name. Actually, one of my children, who is 3 now, is named Matthew Levi. We picked that name for MANY reasons but one of the reasons is that it was on the list of popular baby names but not too high and now I hear both of those names EVERYWHERE.
Re: GOD – Amen to that. The Bible is the best selling book ever published though God. Perhaps he just read it for the hell of it. Some people do that. They read about a lot of different religions and then pick and choose what they like about each one. It's called pluralism, but of course, you're God and you know that. Let's just hope for starters that he can stop the self destructive behaviors and be a good example for his son. He could start with respecting the momma. Perhaps he didn't like the part in the Bible about marriage though. I love you God and your book….it rocks.
