Jailed dog abuser Michael Vick has filed for bankruptcy protection, according to new reports.
Chapter 11 documents filed in federal court in Virginia on Monday say Vick is between $10-50 million in debt.
Those legal bills are expensive!
The former football player also cites assets in the same range.
The court documents list seven creditors, including the Falcons, Vick's old employers. The debt to the Falcons is for $3.75 million, listed as a pro rated signing bonus, but the documents state the claim is disputed.
Vick is currently serving a 23-month prison sentence in Leavenworth, Kansas, for his guilty plea in federal court to felony dogfighting charges.
His release date is July, 2009.
"He is in the process of paying his debt back to society for the federal prosecution," said Vick's attorney. "This will give him the opportunity when he gets out to start his life fresh."
Too bad those dogs don't have the same opportunity - to start their lives fresh!

thankfully, i know that at least 22 of those dogs were taken to Best friends Animal Sanctuary, a wonderful wonderful wonderful place and that it is taking a long time and many hours of faithful peoples' dedication to make those dogs playful and not terrified of people any longer the abuse was so vast…
I cannot believe some of the people on here. someone actually brought it up as a race issue? are you serious!? anyways…animals have feelings just like us. i can't stand to read the comments saying "who cares" or "they're just dogs." some people amaze me.
ugly loser
What goes around comes around, those dogs suffered but at least we know Vick will be suffering for a loooonger time.
I read a great article yesterday about Vicks dogs. Half of them are ok to be adopted to families and the others half were are different animal sancutaries. Only 1 of his 50 Pitbulls had to be put down. So thankfully most of them did get a second chance.
this asshole is a fucking prick. anyone who abuses helpless animals deserves way more than a jail sentence and fine….
Actually most (all except one I think) of the dogs taken from Vic were rehabbed and have found happy homes. I hope the dogs get together and tear Vic's ass to pieces when he gets out of prison.
UGH! Pure trash. How can anyone be so cruel to any living creature. He get's what he derserves. It allll comes back to you.
No mercy,
Yvette
I don't have an ounce of sympathy for him. Quite honestly- I don't think his sentence is long enough. You can't give life back to those poor, innocent dogs that died-so why should he have his back?
Let's not forget-even though they managed to adopt and rehabilitate most of the dogs they found on Michael Vick's property (thankfully), they unfortunately found 76 dead dogs buried on his property. Fuck him!
Wow, have you been following the Vick dogs case at all? Many of those dogs were deemed adoptable and HAVE been adopted out. Many more are still looking for homes. Only those deemed unadoptable due to the abuse they sustained were euthanized. So yes, the Vick dogs ARE getting another chance. I sincerely hope Michael Vick himself can never say the same. Vermin like him should never get another chance.
Sorry, but Meg, you are wrong. Vick DID actually kill some of the dogs himself. And while they are "just" dogs as some of you say here, that still doesn't excuse his actions. Any person who could harm an animal is a sociopath. It is not a "cultural" thing as I have heard some people say. He just did not care how much pain and abuse he heaped upon those defenseless animals. I also care about human lives, homeless people, etc. But the issue here is the abuse of animals, and he is GUILTY!!!!
fuck him,
he doesnt deserve a freshstart
he fucking went bakc to his roots asshole
asshole!
he's getting off so easy…..fresh start my ass, he should rot to hell in jail.
