Almost 12 years after the death of 6 year-old beauty queen JonBenet Ramsey, new findings have finally cleared the family's name!

Prosecutors were able to clear JonBenet's parents and older brother Wednesday for the unexplained killing.

According to the district attorney Mary Lacy, new DNA tests point to an unidentified outsider.

Lacy wrote in a letter to JonBenet's father, John, "To the extent that we may have contributed in any way to the public perception that you might have been involved in this crime, I am deeply sorry. No innocent person should have to endure such an extensive trial in the court of public opinion."

Yea, it's a little TOO late for sorries from her.

Why did it take this long to clear their name?!?!

According to Lacy, it was the new "touch DNA" tests that were done on skin cells left behind on JonBenet's long underwear that point to a third party and not a family member.

As for John Ramsey, he remains hopeful that the killer will now be found thanks to the new DNA evidence.

He says, "I think the people that are in charge of the investigation are focused on that, and that gives me a lot of comfort. Certainly we are grateful that they acknowledged that we, based on that, certainly could not have been involved."

Unfortunately for JonBenet's mother, Patsy, she never lived to be cleared of her name. Patsy passed away in 2006 at the age of 49 due to ovarian cancer.

An attorney for the Ramsey's said, "My first thought was obviously I wish Patsy Ramsey was here with us to be able to at least share vindication of her family. There are many people in this country, if not around the world, that also owe John and Patsy Ramsey and Burke Ramsey an apology."

Despite the fact that police found a drop of blood on JonBenet's underwear that matched it to the DNA of a male not belonging to the family, prosecutors argued that they were unable to determine where that blood came from or that it was even the killer's.

But now the new touch DNA tests taken from the sides of JonBenet's long underwear matched that of the original blood DNA found years ago.

Hopes are that one day they can find a DNA match in the expanding national DNA databank.

Let's hope they find the killer as soon as possible.

The family deserves some rest and millions of apologies.

Patsy killed her. Remember the ransom letter with the word "HENCE". No one, especially a MALE uses the word HENCE, except Patsy who used it ALL THE TIME. And the ransom amount was EXACTLY the amount of JOHN RAMSY's bonus

Re: justi – Thanks 198/200. I remember it all very well. First, my gut feeling when the story broke—that Patsy did it in a fit of rage then tried to cover things up by making it look like an even more macabre crime. And then with the litany of oddball facts that were revealed over the fist five years after. Patsy fake crying, and peeping through her fingers at the police in the house, the linguistic analysis of the 2.5 page rambling ransom note written in the house on Patsy's stationery. The old and new taser marks on the child's body, and the taser found in the house, OWNED by the Ramsey's. Who OWN'S a taser.
My tribute to that dear little six year old—is to remember ALL the discrepancies, and never forget that that child suffered long term abuse, and the parents were caught in multiple lies.
Including John Ramsey often using body language to prompt Patsy and tell her to shut up in interviews, months and years after the crime.

Hate to say this, but there still is the possibility that it was a hired killing. Maybe the Ramsey's didn't actually perform the act, but maybe one of them hired someone else do to it. I still think there's something fishy about it. It just seems bizarre that it was an attack on this little girl, seemingly out of nowhere, with no suspects or leads (minus the Ramseys), and it seems to be an isolated event. I will apologize for assuming immediately, and perhaps all of these thoughts are fueled by inappropriate journalism, but there's still something going on….

i live in denver and i was 5 when her murder happened and i understand the worlds sick obsession with death, especially one as tragic as JonBenet's but if your all about closure for the family you would stop broadcasting her death every were 12 years later. yes the new DNA evidence is big and the apology letter to the family is 12 years in the making but seriously back the hell off and leave the family alone.

    221

Parading any child in a pageant is irresponsible and highly self-indulgent. The child died a long time ago..and that is too bad. What is completely gross is that parents parade their children in front of strangers with make-up, coiffes, and ugly outfits in order to be voted most special. Yuck!! People need to learn (from an early age) that it is your own self acceptance that will make you beautiful, not stupid baby pageants.

The family certainly does not deserve millions of apologies. I'm from Boulder and everyone knows the family did it. They have enough money to cover it up, they've been doing it for 10 years. LIES.

  26. knowi says – reply to this

    226

yeah im from the area too and everyone here knows about the underground child sex ring her parents were apart of, they may not have killed her but they got paid well to let other rich fucks touch her, and it went too far. so although it wasn't technically them, they were the monsters that sold their daughter as a sex slave to other rich yuppies in town. nice parenting!

You're damn right they deserve apologies. Heads should roll. Rest In Peace, Patsy.

    228

Finding that new evidence, and the fact that it matches DNA from a drop of blood found at the time of the offense, does not mean that whomever left that DNA is the killer. It just means that there is an unknown person who had some contact with the decedent or her clothing. Don’t those CSI shows teach you anything? I think it is weird that the prosecutor apologized to the family. Anyone can become a suspect and be investigated in a crime. Most suspects don’t run out and appear on TV shows and yammer on to the press about the case if they don’t want publicity. The prosecutor's office owes no one an apology. Much folderol, just as we have seen from start to finish in this case.

WHY do they spend all their time looking for one little white girls killer
but as soon as a little black girl gets kiled they look for one day & then they dont care anymore.
like averytime theres a white person missing its all over the news & stuff but for black ppl its juust those little "HAVE YOU SEEN ME ?" cards that nobody looks at.

    230

I lived near Boulder, CO around the time this event first happened. It's tragic that this should happen to a child, but at the same time, would a family that wasn't white and wealthy have gotten the same amount of press? I think not. We've heard about this story CONSTANTLY for 12 years, but what about all of the other children in the country are raped and killed….most of the time their killers walk free because no one cares about poor people.

    231

Patsy did it. Couldn't handle her rage and tried to cover it up. What the real mystery is: why the police and d.a. were so inept and anxious to exonorate an obviously guilty parent(and one who helped cover up)! This one was more obvious than O.J..

  32. 12345 says – reply to this

    232

It IS extremely unusual that the DA apologized. What for? Even IF this ONE, SINGLE piece of evidence did exonorate the family (which, of course, it doesn't) why apologize? It was beyond reasonable that the family (Patsy) was suspected at the time of the murder. If Patsy were alive today there's still more than enough evidence to convict her of MURDER BEYOND A REASONABLE DOUBT! This new evidence would only give her defense lawyer something to argue.

    234

I still don't fully buy it. There's still fishy stuff not adding up. I read the book put out by one of the detectives on the case, and he talks about various things, like the strange ransom note that was crossed out and rewritten (and supposedly in Patsy's handwriting? if I remember correctly? not sure…..) the way that the father knew immediately where to find JonBenet's body. And then the indicators that JonBenet was being sexually abused in the months leading up to the murder. Research MK Ultra and ritual abuse. I think there's more to the story here. It's not just simple cut and dry "third party," and that's it.

It is so sad that her mother has died and she never saw justice for her little girl. This whole thing is such a disgrace. I feel sorry for the whole entire family. what a terrible thing to have to go through…being accused of raping and killing your own child has to be the worst accusation ever. Thank God they cleared their names.

Too bad these tests aren't widely accepted right now. Bode Technology did the tests (in VA, outside of DC). Fox News DC interviewed the chair of the Forensic Science Dpt at GW. Too bad they didn't talk about that part where he is skeptical about the testing. You learn a lot of stuff when you are on the inside.

I still can not believe that her parents didn't do it. I have followed this case for years and still can't grasp the concept that Patsy didnt kill her. The case was handled so poorly in the beggining and since JOhn was the one that found the body and threw himself on it I cant see how any DNA can be accurate as badly as the case was handled! How do you explain the pineapples in her system that was on the table. Someone broke in to murder her and fed her some pineapples first?? I still think Patsy and/or John are guilty!

She was the most precious little girl on stage at those beauty pageants and she will always be the princess of them. My thoughts are with JonBenet and her family. May JonBenet Ramsey rest in peace.
