think that is important to point out that the California Supreme Court, after hearing arguments of both sides, judged and ruled that not allowing gays to marry IS discrimination.

These people are directly suporting legalizing discrimination.

And for all of those people and business that think that you have to be gay to be against discrimination, well, I'm heterosexual that was planning to buy a Mercedes at Hoehn this week. Now, I'm going to have to drive to Escondido to buy it.

Re: Hyatt – au contraire mon frere, i work for THE most prestigious of all of the hotel chains. i made sure before i accepted a position with this company that my efforts were not going to support beliefs and causes that would prefer to keep people marginalized and oppressed. this chain of luxury hotels that i work for has a great equal opportunity record as well as the individual property owner that leases the name. by boycotting hyatt, the mother company will either pressure this individual owner to donote annomously, so as to not damage the chains public image or they will disassociate manchester from the chain, if indeed they feel a financial pinch. money do talk, as they say. boycotts reflect and empower the power of the common man.

Boycotting the hotel? Hmmmmm…. I am pretty sure Doug Manchester does not check people in and serve them food and make the beds, so you are actually going to be punishing hundreds of innocent employees who did nothing to deserve it. That sounds like a well thought out plan??? It is really hypocritical to FORCE everyone to accept gay marriages. Why not put all your resources and knowledge to good use and help raise enough money to counter balance his donation, that would be a more impressive action to me. and it hurts no one and helps everyone. Boycotting a Hotel because of the actions taken by the owner makes everyone who does it look ignorant and childish and not at all creative.

  9. FReal says – reply to this

    109

Perez, it's not all of the Hyatt hotel chain, it's just the one in San Diego that this asshat owns. You should look into what other businesses he owns and boycott them as well.

  10. Leah says – reply to this

    110

Erm… read the article all the way through.
It says that Gay Right's Groups aren't calling for a boycott of all HYATT hotels (because they have a record of hiring and supporting gays and lesbians).
It's a SPECIFIC Hyatt Hotel they're calling for a boycott of, because the owner made a political donation.

The Declaration of Indepence states that every Amercian has the right to life, lberty and the pursuit of happiness. You are trying to enforce your beliefs through economic coercion - this will only change actions not beliefs. I support everyone's right to debate issues fo social importance openly and free from retribution. This is what a democracy is all about. Silencing people's views under the threat of economic retaliation leads to oppression, not an improved, more tolerant society.

1st-can you read well Perez? As pointed out, it is one hotel and the gay rights group in the article says not to boycott all hyatts, just the one that manchester owns.
2nd-you are telling us to boycott the hyatt hotel, which is fine under the freedom of speech but you are boycotting it because he is supporting his view. So, you are allowed a view but he isn't. Things like this are going to get proposition 8 overthrown. When you hold a protest, you incovenience people not involved with the protest. Alot of times, some will get angry at the incovenience and support the other view because of the problem. educating people is the way to go.

Sutton won the right to unionize based on her hard work, not on a retaliatory economic oppression of the textile mill.

This is a never ending whine mission by anyone who feels slighted and decides they need to protest. I dont agree at all with the ban of gay marriage, and dont agree with what that man did, but I think your opinion as Perez Hilton holds a lot of power, and you shouldn't say Hyatt is to blame for one bigots actions.

Perez - You need to change the title of this piece, as it clearly states:
"Gay rights leaders say they are not targeting the Hyatt Corp. – which operates the Manchester Grand Hyatt – because the company has a good record in hiring and supporting gays and lesbians. But they are singling out the Manchester property."

You should change it to boycott the Manchester Grand Hyatt - Hyaat Corp has nothing to do with this, it's simply one man.

    145

I'm staying there this weekend… I called the hotel and they said that it has nothing to do with the hotel. The hotel is gay friendly, the boycott is against Mr. Manchester, lame that people have nothing better to do than to boycott a man and his beliefs because they dont match up with your own.

You believe in gay marriage as do many others, some people don't. Thats the way it is and will always be, unfortunately.

I agree with them whole heartedly…gay marriages aren't real and are a bad example for future generations. Marriage is a symbol of love and committment between a man and a women before the eyes of God. Marriage is more than shared bank accounts and medical insurance. It is a sacred bond shared between a man and a women. If youre gay then great, good for you, but it doesn't give you the right to wed.

As an employee of Hyatt, it makes me sad that you would associate one person's actions with an entire corporation that has a culture which is very accepting of different lifestyles. Do some research before you decide to ban a company that did nothing wrong and supports all of it's employees & guests (gay or straight).

  59. Todd says – reply to this

    159

    Perez,

Read the entire article, before leaving such a broad headline as "boycott Hyatt." Hyatt Corporation is consistently a top 10 company, according to the HRC. They offered same-sex partner benefits before it was cool. It's a good Chicago company, run by a liberal family that doesn't participate in hate campaigns, that would be the Californian that owns this particular hotel.

Perez, why is this man not allowed to support causes of which he feels strongly? Every couple of days, you post something you deem "A Worthwhile Cause" and that's great, but guess what? Manchester believes this to be a worthwhile cause. Disagree with him all you want, but freedom of expression affords him with the exact same liberties it affords you. Suggest a boycott if you want, but why not go further? Why not go over every business you patronize with a fine-tooth comb? Find out how each proprietor votes, how he stands on gay marriage, abortion, immigration, et al. and then, after you're done with the background check, decide whether or not you'll continue to patronize. Sounds foolish, doesn't it? Let the man live his life the way he chooses, just as you live yours.

I think its a good idea. Because of Perez's influence, the entire Hyatt chain could be hurt financially, and send a big slap on the wrist to this particular franchise owner.

  72. Cassi says – reply to this

    172

I'm glad he contributed to that bill. I would have too. It's unbelievable to me how if a straight person asserts his views, he's discriminating. However, when a gay person asserts his views, he's standing up for his constitutional rights. Also, suing schools for teaching that marriage should be between a man and woman is ridiculous. If you want to be gay, fine. But my kids won't learn about it in school. My kids will be raised in church, learning that marriage is for a man and a woman. And if that makes me a homophobic, then fine. But it's better than being a hypocrite. If you want to be gay, fine. But when I see a gay man who is also a preacher saying how it says nothing in the Bible about homosexuality being wrong, it pisses me off even more. Obviously he doesn't know the Bible too well. If you want to be gay and pretend to be a Christian, that's fine. Just don't preach it in my church around my children and my family. I'm Christian, I'm southern, and damn proud of both of those things. I don't have anything against the person specifically. I have friends that happen to be gay. We understand each other's beliefs. We won't be close friends because of our fundamentally different beliefs. Here's my email: cassi19k@hotmail.com. Please feel free to email me your rants. Don't be shy.

and that is why I do not subscribe to any religious doctrine. it is so archaic and discriminatory how religion is. why exactly should marriage only be between a male and a female? if marriage is only for procreation then what about all those male-female marriages that do not procreate?

say, would people be more likely to boycott not only the san diego hyatt, but other hyatts if it was found Doug Manchester donated money to support the KKK? yeah, the outcry would be immediate, so what's the difference between that and this? nothing, but pure bigotry, hatred, and discrimination.

Its disgusting and shows poor journalism and class that Perez would write "Boycott Hyatt" when in the article itself says
quote "Gay rights leaders say they are not targeting the Hyatt Corp. – which operates the Manchester Grand Hyatt – because the company has a good record in hiring and supporting gays and lesbians. But they are singling out the Manchester property."

Perez, you are unfairly and incorrectly citing action against a company which the activists are not in fact targeting at all. This man's connection with the ownership of this hotel does not reflect AT ALL on the reputation and practices of Hyatt Corporation and all of their other properties in the US and Internationally. Hyatt has a great reputation with many diverse communities, including that of gay and lesbian individuals. Don't make such baseless and wide spreading comments when the facts behind the statement aren't true - its slanderous and illlegit

read the article a little more closely…Hyatt Corp does not own this hotel, this douchebag Manchester does - Hyatt operates it. boycott Manchester, but not Hyatt.

No, I will now make a point of staying at the Hyatt because defining marriage is the will of the people not left-wing progressive courts. Sorry we have a constitution Perez, but that's the way it goes. Besides the Hilton is crawling with crabs.

    189

HMMMM…Let's see….I should boycott a hotel because the owner has a different belief than me. So, does that mean I should boycott all businesses and people that are Catholic, Jewish, Buddhist, etc., just because I am Lutheran? Or should I boycott them if I find that they support welfare programs and I don't? WAKE UP!! If this man had donated to a program/bill that you don't support and it had nothing to do with your sexual orientation, you wouldn't have taken the time out to even "write" about it…you're a hack, wannabe, self proclaimed "queen of all media" IF you truly think you are the queen, then maybe you should back it up by learning the first rule of journalism….get your shit straight, and keep your personal opinion out of it unless you're writing an editorial….AND WE SHOULD BE SEEING A RETRACTION IN 3…2…1…

ARE YOU FUCKING STUPID MARIO….YOU DON'T WANT TO BOYCOTT THE HYATT….THEY SUPPORT GAYS AND LESBIANS, YOU JUST WANT TO BOYCOTT THE MANCHESTER GRAND HYATT. I READ THE ARTICLE……YOU'RE A RETARD FOR TELLING PEOPLE TO BOYCOTT THE ENTIRE CHAIN BECAUSE OF THE ACTIONS OF ONE FRANCHISE PROPERTY……
ALSO, DOESN'T THE OWNER OF SAID PROPERTY HAVE THE RIGHT TO DONATE TO ANYTHING HE FUCKING WANTS TO? HE HIMSELF EVEN SAID HE ISNT ANTI GAY….HE'S ANTI GAY MARRIAGE BEING TAUGHT IN SCHOOL…..WHATS THE BIG DEAL?

Hi, it does seem like you (or ur staff) do not read the comments that invite readers to post.. many people have already commented it that it is not Hyatt , but Mr. Manchester for a franchise. I am gay and work for Hyatt and it is definitely an equal oppurtunity employer.

Please have a thought and retract the post. It is sad to see that other readers who have said 'Ban hyatt' or even 'love hyatt' have not even read the article throughly.

    perez,

I have worked for Hyatt 8++ years and I'm gay! It's a great company that has helped many in the GLBT community pursue successful careers. Hyatt is only the management company. It has nothing to do with Hyatt and everything to do with the owner, and frankly he's the idiot. Do your research before you start a random boycott, - because in the end it makes you an idiot as well!!

Gays are so bitter. How can you call donating money to ban same sex marriage discrimination? That's not discrimination, it's opposing same sex marriage. You either support it, or you don't. That's pathetic to boycott an opposite side. I will make sure every hotel I stay at now is apart of that hotel chain just to show MY SUPPORT for the anti gay marriage side.

my fiancee works at this hotel as a concierge. there are so many gay/lesbian people that work there it would make your head spin. i personally have also worked at his other "property" in san diego, "The Grand" country club in sorta del-mar"ish" and can tell you there are many gays and lesbians there as well. his ass is so backwards. the manchester family is a bunch of hypocrites. to read something like this is fucking bullshit. perez, you want dirt, i have it.

  98. 198

What would you call someone that boycotted a place the SUPPORTED such things? Bigot, hate monger etc.

So you doing the exact same makes you the SAME type of person they are.

You are just threatening them until they see things YOUR way.

How much more of a bigot an one get?

Since everyone is entitled to its own right, I choose not to do business with Manchester Grand Hyatt, especially since one of the biggest events for San Diego is around the corner, is wise to use other hotels friendlier to the LGBT community such as W Hotels.
