Vampires will be showing their teeth the next few months!
On the first Saturday in August, teens are expected to attend midnight parties at bookstores across the land in droves to celebrate the release of author Stephenie Meyer's Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final book of her Twilight series.
Breaking Dawn has a first run printing of 3.5 million copies.
Talk about popular!
And then, not too long after that, the first Twilight movie should be hitting movie screens worldwide.
Also, in September, HBO's premiering the vampire show True Blood on September 7th.
True Blood is based on a series of novels by Charlaine Harris. It's set in a world where vampires have come out into the open, thanks to the development of synthetic blood that allows them to survive without feeding on humans.
Anna Paquin will star as a mind-reading waitress who's drawn to a vampire who arrives in her small Louisiana town.
The undead live on!

As a middle school teacher I am SO thankful to Stephenie Meyer and her Twilight series. So many of my students, boys included, have fallen for this series and are eagerly awaiting BREAKING DAWN (as is their teacher!!) Vampires have always been a favorite topic of mine (since Lost Boys, I mean, c'mon, the 2 Corey's, HELLO!!) and to be able to connect with students through her outstanding books is AWESOME!! I went to her book signing in May in Kansas City, and it was like going to a rock concert…screaming and all the signs/tshirts with fan adoration….AMAZING!! Seriously! And the movie….oh yeah, that will be quite the topic this year in class and it is cool…seriously, in these fast paced and crazy times (no, I am not old, 29)…..it is so cool to see students obsessed with BOOKS!!!

I am not embarrassed to say that as a 28 year old woman, I am so excited to get my copy of Breaking Dawn. The Twilight series is just an enjoyable for teens as they are for adults. When Eclipse, the last book, came out last fall People magazine had a wonderful review of it. I wonder if Bella is finally going to become a vampire and spend her eternal life with Edward……

Lame. These books were as silly as the word silly. It is the typical high school story of a girl who has no self confidence and falls for the bad boy. This bad boy just happens to be a vampire. Perez don't waste your time on these books. The language is inconsistent and they are definitely for the juvenile demographic. Oh and girls don't look for your Edward in the real world, be your own vampire!

This shit is the saddest, most pathetic, kitschy mind-drivel ever written, and the writers (there are so many out there these days doing the same thing) are exploiting a very cool genre - the gothic novel - to do it. I hope some vampires kill them, preferably in the form of Cooleridge, Byron, Poe and Lovecraft. Hell, I may hold a seance and resurrect them for the cause. At the very least I know THE GREATS, the masters of the macabre and supernatural, are rolling over in their graves, and if they could rise, they certainly would.
Really happy Twilight is getting this type of press, especially with the movie 5 months away, but I cannot get over this cover. Not at all what Twilight is about. It looks like a cheesy romance novel cover. Don't get me wrong, I am ecstatic that the series and the movie are getting this kind of coverage, but they should not deviate from the image of the novel. Sure, the series True Blood is based on falls into the whole Vamp/Sex/Seduction thing, but that is not Twilight and I think it is wrong to portray that image. Sex sells, I get it, but offering sex and not delivering is probably not a good idea. I think this issue of EW should have focused more on Breaking Dawn and Stephenie Meyer since it is more relevant at this time and saved this cover (or a better one) for closer to December.

stell: The cover is overstylized on purpose for the EW cover. It looks like they were crossing a Harlequin novel cover with a night of the living dead look on edward. They are just having some fun with the concept of vampire love, no biggie. I wish they had let robert look hotter though, that's all.
Oh, lighten the hell up. I hate when people act like a genre can't be twisted or cross breeded with another genre to help liven it up a little.
Meyers isn't the best writer, but she's thought up a very nice fantasy world where vampires deal with moral issues and free will instead of limiting them to cool looking goth rockers who fuck around alot.

I read the first book, Twilight. I didn't bother reading the rest. I didn't like how people kept comparing it to Harry Potter. While Potter is much more universal, Twilight's demographic is a LOT smaller. I don't think any 50 year old men will be reading it anytime soon. The target market is only girls between 13 and 19. Only a few are older. The book itself is good, but NOTHING compared to Harry Potter, and it's the comparisons that have really turned me off. Nonetheless, I'll still go see the movie - and maybe one day I'll read the other books. Oh, and I think Kristen's PERFECT for Bella.
