Doing controversial shit just to get attention and sell magazines - smart or desperate?????
According to reports, the illustrator, artist Barry Blitt, "satirizes the use of scare tactics and misinformation in the Presidential election to derail Barack Obama’s campaign.”
We think it's adding fuel to the fire, though. There are some people out there who will think that it's Michelle and Barack who are being satirized.
It just seems to reinforce the inaccurate shizz that's always attributed to the Obamas.
Obama spokesperson Bill Burton said in a statement, “The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama's right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree."
A McCain mouthpiece said, “We completely agree with the Obama campaign, it’s tasteless and offensive.”
We bet the Republicans are LOVING this, though!
To make things fair we think the New Yorker should feature a McCain 'satire' on the cover too.

Would it be funny if it was McCain in this drawing, what exactly is it to understand about this concept. There is no reason for this drawing what so ever beside being offensive that was the goal of the new Yorker is to be offensive to the Obama campaign. The cover has to get approval from alot of executive for the New Yorker so I think it fulfilled it's goal by being offensive. New Yorker do not have my support as well as Fox News!

I love "The New Yorker" and I think the cover is brilliant.
You have to read the magazine to understand the humor of its writers and editors. I stand by the staff's decision to run that cover and am proud to call them fellow Americans. I can't stand right-wing zealots.
It doesn't matter what the republicans do, they've shot themselves in the foot by getting GB elected to 2 terms and putting up McCain as their next presidential candidate.
That is TERRIBLE. I will be the first to say that I am a Dem although not an Obama supporter, he was my distant 3rd choice behind Hillary and Edwards. But I will be voting for him in November.
To put something like this on the cover makes it look like they are condoning and agreeing with the stereotypes and making fun of the Obamas. It will absolutely reinforce the fears that are already going around. I am shocked and disappointed that a magazine such as The New Yorker would do this! I'd expect this from a sleazy trash mag but not here.
I hope that in fairness they take the absolute worst qualities of McCain and put the same type of "satire" on the cover next month.

This is the most accurate representation of the Obama's I have seen. Yes, I do understand the satire, but I believe it to be accurate. The Dems are just afraid that it won't be understood as satire by the millions of unintelligent Dems out there and some of them will no longer just automatically vote for Obama because he's a Dem.

His campaign could care less about the cartoon, but as with anything that is blown out of proportion they felt the need to address it to put it past them.

I think this is bullshit personally, everyone wants to attack Sen. Obama because he is different and people are afraid of change. When the New Yorker puts out a cover like this, it basically shows their political stance, and are most likely influeincing their readers to take the same stance. I agree with Perez, they should have included McCain in this one too. Just because Sen. Obama has certain affiliates, does not mean he is going to have in affiliates influence his campaign, or how he runs the country when/if he becomes President.
