According to reports, the illustrator, artist Barry Blitt, "satirizes the use of scare tactics and misinformation in the Presidential election to derail Barack Obama’s campaign.”
We think it's adding fuel to the fire, though. There are some people out there who will think that it's Michelle and Barack who are being satirized.
It just seems to reinforce the inaccurate shizz that's always attributed to the Obamas.
Obama spokesperson Bill Burton said in a statement, “The New Yorker may think, as one of their staff explained to us, that their cover is a satirical lampoon of the caricature Senator Obama's right-wing critics have tried to create. But most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree."
A McCain mouthpiece said, “We completely agree with the Obama campaign, it’s tasteless and offensive.”
We bet the Republicans are LOVING this, though!
To make things fair we think the New Yorker should feature a McCain 'satire' on the cover too.
This cover is offensive and the New Yorker should be ashamed. Its also gave the FIRST NEGATIVE REVIEW OF THE DARK KNIGHT. Its obiviuos this magazine is out of touch with the public and desperate for attention. I never read this shit before and believe me stuff like this wont make me pick it up. JOKE MAGAZINE, FOX MUSTA BOUGHT IT.

I respond THIS way. Just LAST WEEK, a class action lawsuit was won against a county in Ohio for not providing water to the county due to the fact that it was predominately black. Polls show that currently there are many parts of the country in which the majority of people believe that Barack is Muslim, therefore satire is lost on them. This satire is vicous, blatantly racist, and incredibly disrespectful. Do the people who work there not understand how high the stakes are in this election? Out in America people are hurting and worried. To run a cartoon that could do serious damage to a presidential campaign is breathtakingly cavalier.
I think people who agree should cancel their subscriptions to the New Yorker and use their money to make a contribution to Senator Obama's campaign.
Problem is that everybody can see some grains of truth in this and as a result it freaks us all out. Even if you do not believe that it is at all accurate in its portrayal, and of course almost everybody will admit it it exagerated …thats why its humor…, it is scary for all of us to confront this possibility. Especially when our options are so severely limited, we want something better, and we have had to endure some very bad times.
