Big news, CSI fans!
Entertainment Weekly reports that William Petersen's character on CSI, Gil Grissom, will be gone by mid-season.
"Billy is leaving," confirms the show's executive producer, "But he will remain throughout the run of the series an executive producer. And he will, whenever CBS asks, come back. I don't think you've seen the last of Gil Grissom."
Petersen tells the mag, "I'm in a great place in terms of knowing that I'll be more free to make choices. And I'm responsible enough to not do it in a way that would hurt [the show]. I want it to work for the writers, I want it to work for the cast, and, MOST importantly, I want it to work for the audience. I don't want them to abandon the show."
It's always good to spread your wings a bit.
He has been on the show 8 years!! He's made all the money he needs.
Now, the question is: does anyone care that he's leaving the show???
He was messing around with a friend of mine while he was engaged to his current wife. My friend found out and dumped his selfish ass.
Now, she's a happy producer that won an academy award a couple of years ago for a movie short.

I Care! I DO!! "Grissom" is such a great character. He plays such a dark person. The show worked well when he was gone the last time, because he was always "part of the show" even when he wasn't there.

This man single-handedly makes being smart and steady sexy as hell. The show will crash without him; he's the heart, soul and glue of that show. Hopefully, someone else will snatch up this wundertalent and keep him in front of the cameras where he belongs. I love him like I love Sean Connery and Morgan Freeman and Anthony Hopkins. They hold themselves proud, dignified and strong and are intelligent and charismatic without needing to be the center of attention, acting the fool or throwing $ around like immature frat boys. Love William Peterson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Long live Grissom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes I care. He's the most believable character on any of the 3 shows. It's nice to have smoking hot CSI's (Eva Larue) but who believes she's a scientist?
Why do the networks have to ruin every show that is worth watching, just to put on another reality or gameshow. Gil is the original CSI and it will be nothing without him.
I care. He IS the show. He is a wonderful actor and will be missed. I am a loyal viewer, even watch the repeats, but may not enjoy the show as much without him.

Damn, that will suck for the show. He kind of made the show. Looks like this will be cancelled after a couple seasons without him. Although, I kind of saw this coming with all his character's 'health' issues.

Yes, I care. He is the show (CSI). I know he has been its executive producer for many years now. I would still watch the show without him but I hope they find a compelling and great actor to replace him. They tried a dramatic actor once for cameo, Liev Schreiber and it worked. I hope they bring him back or get someone his caliber to replace William Petersen (Grissom). He is the best character they have who is holding the fort. The stupid leads at CSI: Miami, David "sideways" Caruso and Gary "bore-me" Sinise don't do it for me.

William Petersen is one of the great living actors. Any TV show would be elevated by having him on it. CBS should be thrilled to have had him for 8 seasons.

He is the reason I liked the show. I was sooo glad when they finally got rid of Jorja Fox and was looking forward to some story lines with him and not her. Don't know why they kept her so long. I really like CSI miami except for David Caruso. I wish they would find a new head guy because I like everyone else on the show.

I don't really care, cause I don't watch the show anymore. I stopped watching when JF left…the relationship between her and WP was a huge part of why I loved the show. Now that WP is leaving, me along with the other shippers out there on the net and elsewhere can pretend that Sara and Grissom are living somewhere happily ever after. I would watch again if JF and WP appeared together again.
