Big news, CSI fans!
Entertainment Weekly reports that William Petersen's character on CSI, Gil Grissom, will be gone by mid-season.
"Billy is leaving," confirms the show's executive producer, "But he will remain throughout the run of the series an executive producer. And he will, whenever CBS asks, come back. I don't think you've seen the last of Gil Grissom."
Petersen tells the mag, "I'm in a great place in terms of knowing that I'll be more free to make choices. And I'm responsible enough to not do it in a way that would hurt [the show]. I want it to work for the writers, I want it to work for the cast, and, MOST importantly, I want it to work for the audience. I don't want them to abandon the show."
It's always good to spread your wings a bit.
He has been on the show 8 years!! He's made all the money he needs.
Now, the question is: does anyone care that he's leaving the show???

This is why shows need to follow Battlestar Galactica and quit when its good while the writers and everyone have control of what happens before people start getting axed left and right and its not even the same show and no one gives a shit. I love him and will not watch when he's gone. The show is past its prime anyway.
Truth be told, he is the reason I watch the show. However, he's had such a minor role this past year anyway. I'll probably not watch it once he's gone for good.
Billy is the heart, soul and spirit of CSI. He is and will always be the heartbeat of the series. To lose him is a huge sea change for the show and its concept, which I doubt it will be able to recover from. All the characters do a wondeful job, but Billy is/was the glue. Whatever the real reasons are, he will be greatly and deep missed by all CSI fans. I wish him the best in his next endeavors and will be too sad to watch CSI without him. Best wishes, all good things to come, and a most fond au revoir to the indescribable, indefinable, elusive Gil Grissom!
