Big news, CSI fans!
Entertainment Weekly reports that William Petersen's character on CSI, Gil Grissom, will be gone by mid-season.
"Billy is leaving," confirms the show's executive producer, "But he will remain throughout the run of the series an executive producer. And he will, whenever CBS asks, come back. I don't think you've seen the last of Gil Grissom."
Petersen tells the mag, "I'm in a great place in terms of knowing that I'll be more free to make choices. And I'm responsible enough to not do it in a way that would hurt [the show]. I want it to work for the writers, I want it to work for the cast, and, MOST importantly, I want it to work for the audience. I don't want them to abandon the show."
It's always good to spread your wings a bit.
He has been on the show 8 years!! He's made all the money he needs.
Now, the question is: does anyone care that he's leaving the show???
After he leaves the show no one will watch it anymore.. he is what makes CSI enticing to watch in the first place. CSI is nothing without Grissom

When Grissom leaves I bet most of its fan-base will follow him.

This is getting to the point where CSI is going to turn into one of those crappy shows where all of the original cast leaves and gets replaced by crappier actors that don't know what their doing! Its just not fair.

i definitely agree with david. the show won't be ANYTHING without him. he is like the main person on the show. i don't understand why everyone is leaving csi. it makes me sad.

i think the show will survive, it became popular because of the topics and what the show is about, solving crime with the use of modern technology. The characters add flavour and clour to the show mate, but the characters are not the show. Perfect examples of good shows which had numerous character changes are NYPD Blue, Hill St. Blues and Law and Order they lasted a long time on TV and are still being syndicated today.
