Some names that we could easily see playing either role are: Anne Hathaway, Mandy Moore, Emmy Rossum, Kristen Bell and…..

I would really love to see Kristin and Idina reprise their roles…they are both amazing…if not I guess maybe Reese Witherspoon and Emmy Rossum could both be promising!!! I love Emmy…she was amazing in "Phantom of the Opera"…whoever they get better not mess up my fave musical!!!
NO NO NO NO NO. Wicked is one of those musicals that SHOULD NOT leave the stage. Hairspray? fine, whatever. Mama Mia? pushing it, but meryl streep can do no wrong. a movie will fuck this musical up, ESPECIALLY if Idina Menzel is not Elphaba. i LOVE Wicked and DO NOT want it to be popularized any more than it is. Stupid Steven Schwartz, selling out. bastard.

with talent like Idina mezel and kristen chenowith - - why oh WHY would you want to try to find talent that 'might' be able to sing. and even if they could carry a tune… they'd never be able to do it like those 2. I think they'd be great for an on screen adaptation. They've both already proven themselves, Kristen with Annie and The Music Man and Idina with Rent. c'mon! show a little respect!

laura bell bundy… i know she's a broadway star, but how AWESOME would that be if she were g (a) linda? as for elphaba parts, who knows?
if they go with Idina and kristen theyd better get a bigger sound stage for the size of Kristens ego. I can't even imagine the agent who would have to negotiate who is getting more…both girls don't know how good they have it.
I saw Wicked in Chicago and it was awesome! I'd see the movie version in an instant! I agree, why can't Kristen Chenoweth play Glinda?

I refuse to see this film if the lead actresses are anyone of the girls mentioned. Emmy Rossum =ABSOLUTELY NOT. Wicked is such a genius work of the theater and one of the most original works to come onto Broadway in years. I can't believe Stephen Schwartz would trust this in the hands of Hollywood's directors. And whoever spelled it "Glenda" needs to do their research.

i dont see why they dont let the ORIGIONALS play the parts. kristin chinoweth as "galinda/glinda" and the AMAZING idina menzel as "elphaba". there both amazing on broadway and their both actresses…so, they both can sing AND act…sounds like a hit to me…
Idina and Kristin are no strangers to the big screen… I say definitely bring them back for the movie… they are what MADE the show and soundtrack so huge. Can't wait!

i don't think any of the girls mentioned have the vocal chops except maybe emmy rossum [and not elphy's btut glinda's] i would be thrilled if they brought back the OBC but i don't know if they would. i adore them but it's easier to play 22 when you're 30-something on stage than in film. it worked for rent because they never gave the character ages but in wicked the girls are supposed to be 20-24. just a thought.
Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel are the only two who should do it.

I would watch Wicked only if they have Idina Menzel take on the role of Elpheba. I wouldnt waste my time if a hollywood kid would play such a empowering and great role. I wouldnt waste my time on a chessy movie So if they have no Idina Menzel then the thunder would be gone on this movie.

If they wanted a young girl to be the lead, i'd say pic Katherine McPhee,
she is more talented than Anne Hathaway, Mandy Moore, Emmy Rossum and Kristen Bell combined.
I don't think it will happen but she would perfectly fit the role of Elphaba (sp?).
Obviously, unless you know nothing about this musical (as most readers on this site probably qualify) the original cast should star in the film adaptation. No one other than Kristin and Idina should fill the roles of Galinda or Elphaba. Unless it's a traveling show, or the new Broadway cast, those are the only two ladies I'd wanna see in the film.

Personally, I would like to see the original broadway cast as the cast for the film. They would help to keep it as close to the original show as possible.
Reese Witherspoon/Amy Adams as Galinda, Meryl Streep as Morrible, Fiyero-James MArsden and as Elphaba hmmmmm like a Megan Fox perhaps and the Wizard would be John Cleese/aged Matthew Broderick/Jim Broadbent

Obviously the two original leading ladies. They're the only ones I'd like to see in the roles. NIdina Menzel & Kristin Chenowith are amazing. Or Laura Bell Bundy as Glinda. She's also amazing. =) Emmy Rossum could possibly be a good Elphiba, but idk…I'd rather see them go with someone who has played the roles on Broadway or touring before. They're two physically demanding roles that require a lot of time and energy to GET, so someone who has been in them before would be better.

Have you seen the previews for Mamma Mia?! That looks like the cheesiest, most craptastic movie EVER!! I can only imagine what they would do to that awesomeness that is Wicked! I, for one, do not want there to be a Wicked movie, the show is AMAZING!!! Let's just leave it at that!!

To whomever wrote that above I can't even believe you would use those words against the absolutely wonderful and amazing Idina Menzel. I highly doubt you have as much talent as Idina and for that I doubt you should say anything about her other than praises. She has accomplished so much in the years she's spent on theatre, broadway and in film that anyone should aspire to her. Come back when you are nominated for a tony AND win a tony, star in an original broadway show that makes its way all the way to film and runs on broadway for over 10 years, make and record your own album, and win an award for best actress in a musical. Maybe then you can say that with a little something to back you up.

Ok I LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE wicked, and the original ladies are SO SO SO SOOOO good, buuuut, they are way too old to play these parts on film! On stage is different, you don't tell the difference but in movies you CAN tell if some 30 year old is trying to pass off as younger. These rolls are more in the 20's area, IMHO. I would love to see them cast unknowns like in Hairspray, maybe a star or two in the cast, but the leading ladies need to bee GOOD. Anne Hathaway or Emmy Rossum (who wasn't so good in Phantom of the Opera) can't pull it off. Laura Bell Bundy would do an amazing job as Glinda, but she might be too tall (lol, i know, but I always imagine Glinda as petite and shorter than Elphaba).
I think much like RENT, only the originals will do this musical justice. No one can sing "Defying Gravity" like Idina Menzel.
Mandy Moore and Emmy Rossum would be good Glindas. I oculd actually see lindsay Lohan as a potential Elphaba!
