Finally, a feature film adaptation of the Broadway smash Wicked is in the works.
Yay!
Some names that we could easily see playing either role are: Anne Hathaway, Mandy Moore, Emmy Rossum, Kristen Bell and…..

Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenowith!! i saw them perform the day after idina won best actress at the tonys a few years ago!! it was one of the most incredible nights of my life!!AMAZING!!
Idina Menzel and Kristin Cheno is who I wanna see in the film they did an amazing job in the original

Idina Menzel! She originated the role and is awesome! Elphaba must be played by someone who can sing the part or it would be terrible. I tire of seeing celebrities who cannot sing land the leads in musical adaptations. Cast a broadway star or an unknown or leave these brilliants artworks on the stages they were meant for.
The original members of the cast, duh.
Anybody whose played them; I wouldn't want anybody who hasn't ever been in the production to play Glinda or Elphie in the musical.

It SHOULD be Kristin Chenowith and Idina Menzel…….. there's a reason the show is so popular. But, of course, we'll get the hot flavor of the week in the film version. (Example: the film "Proof" lacked the punch and tense ferociousness that the stage version had. Gweneth is a great actress, but if they had cast the original lead, Mary-Louise Parker, it would have been a great film)

ok so, big fan of broadway in general… would love to see the movie version, but it would only be fantastic if the originals were in it… its no offense to those actresses, it just wouldn't feel right if idina and kristen weren't the leads… blah… but again because i am a fan i would probably go see the movie…

That people Perez listed would be horrible for the roles in the film. If a film were to occur, it should be ONLY with the Original Broadway Cast or others that were actually in the show. The musical is written for actors and actresses with AMAZING voices, not ones with horrible ones.

They should either stick with the OBC, or go for actresses from some of the other productions. If they wanted to stay true to age, Eden Espinosa and Annaleigh Ashford are their best bets - young (not to mention incredible) talent. People already know Ashford from the MTV Legally Blonde airing, and some audiences are familiar with Espinosa from the Wicked episode of Ugly Betty.
just went to go see it for my b-day this past Sunday. I LOVED IT. I’m so happy a movie is being made. I can totally see Kristin Chenoweth playing Glenda the good witch.
I agree- take the Rent route and put Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenowith in the roles- no one has ever done it as well as they did. It would break my heart to see some hollywood talentless in the roles; and do any of the possiblities you listed have the chops to belt out that final note in defying gravity…i think not. But so so thrilled about this news.
I sure hope the play is better than the book. The book is TERRIBLE!! I hated it, and I had to make myself finish it. I was ready to jump ship 1/3 of the way into it. Awful.

from what i've been hearing: idina menzel and kristen chenoweth will reprise their roles, but this hasn't been confirmed yet. if they will, it will certainly be great news for fans of the musical.
Umm..NONE of those people could ever sing the songs from Wicked in a million years. They are all stylized computer-aided pop singers, and could not pull off the notes in Defying Gravity. Are you serious?!
I'm hoping that the movie includes the original cast. but if not, two unknowns who are amazing, belting, broadway singers would be the only other way to go.

Funny that you mention Kristen Bell, I totally thought of her when thinking of who they should put in this adaptation to screen. But I really think Idina and Kristin would be amazing.

Honestly I don't want to see it as a movie. Often times movies butcher amazing musicals and leave out the best songs.
