Finally, a feature film adaptation of the Broadway smash Wicked is in the works.

Some names that we could easily see playing either role are: Anne Hathaway, Mandy Moore, Emmy Rossum, Kristen Bell and…..

i know kristen, as she actually took some vocal lessons with me at NYU. not a bad thought. but don't leave out my girl dee. and cheno. obvi choices.
i wish they would make just make the film an adaptation of the actual book, rather than a musical. The book is amazing, and never was intended to be a musical in the first place. the story would make a really interesting fantasy-drama film as it is.

Wicked is my favorite musical so I would be awestruck if this movie idea actually came to fruitition. I'm going to reiterate exactly what other people have said, and say that Idina, Kristen, Norbert, Joel and the rest of the cast should take on their roles in the movie. Screw Hollywood and their desire to put the best looking people in their movies, cause a lot of them can't act. If some of the original cast can't do it, then cast people that can sing and act, not just look good.
Kristin and Idina NEED to play their roles again!! After all, they created them in the beginning!!!!

As great as the original leads were, they're too old for the roles. Remember what happened when they used the original cast of RENT for the movie? Nobody wants late 30's actors playing teenagers again, and that's exactly what these 2 ladies are supposed to be! Kristen Bell for Glinda, some unknown for Elphaba! No hiring hollywood types that can't actually sing!

Yay! Finally!!!! They better not mess up on casting! I love the original cast, but obviously their age will translate a lot on screen as opposed to stage (characters are supposed to be school aged kids, remember? not full on older adults)

Idina Menzel can't really sing the role anymore, due to taking horrible care of her voice. Kristin could come back as Glinda or possibly Megan Hilty, who was HILARIOUS, but Shoshana Beane or Stephanie J. Block should play Elphaba (Steph being the true original Elphie). Let's just hope that Wicked doesn't take the "Phantom of the Opera" route and cast pretty faces who can't sing and make ANOTHER loser musical movie out of a Tony-award winning franchise. Seriously.

OMG!!!! I soooo hope it happens soon! I finally saw Wicked this past March for the first time after obsessing over it forever. This would be just super fantastic. And clearly, they should have Idina and Kristin play the roles.

okay so broadway is a religious experience. you cant ruin it by putting MOVIE STARS in it. elphaba and galinda are some extremely sacred characters to some broadway fans, and i feel that in the movie they could only be played by cheno, idina, sjb, hilty, kerry, jlt, etc. people that have played the role exquisitely in the past.

if they do make a movie…which ithink it is way too early for. they should make it with kristen chenowith and idina menzel. its the only way to do it. and maybe throw in a little neil patrick harris..he would be good for it.

How about the Original Cast members, namely Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth? They created these roles on Broadway and should rightly be able to reprise the roles on screen. And if either turn down the parts then why don't they ask some of the other people who are so well-known for their take-overs of the roles on Broadway such as Eden Espinosa and Megan Hilty? I hate how Hollywood has to go for "the big names" just so that they can bring in more money. It NEVER makes the show more enjoyable. Let the people who know the script and everything that Wicked stands for in Broadway lovers' hearts do their jobs and perform in the movie!
How about the original cast (idina Menzel & Kristin Chenoweth) who already had it built into the broadway contracts that they are cast in any Wicked movie. They would have to be bought out for someone else to be cast.
