Very exciting news musical theater lovers!!!
Finally, a feature film adaptation of the Broadway smash Wicked is in the works.
Yay!
Some names that we could easily see playing either role are: Anne Hathaway, Mandy Moore, Emmy Rossum, Kristen Bell and…..
Who would U love to see in the film????

I agree Idina and Kristin should definetly be the leads in the movie. There was a rumour that Spears wanted to be in it but I think that would ruin it.
Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenowith!!!!!!!!!! No one would do it better than those two! It's the same as RENT!
I would probably only TRULY support the movie if they cast the original broadway cast in the movie- AT THE BARE MINIMUM bring Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth back. They deserve it and made the show what it is today.
I am so stoked to hear about this, but it would be amazing if they were able to do what RENT was able to do and bring back most of the original cast. Since Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth are doing movies now anyways….it would be so AMAZING, Perez you made my day!

Megan Hilty and Idina menzel should reprise the roles of Galinda and Elfeba for the movie version. They are FREAKIN awesome!!! Megan is even better than Kristin Chenowith as Galinda…so funny and younger than Kristin. idina Menzel has the most tear inducing voice ever! When she sings Defying Gravity I can weep like a baby.

So yeah, it'll have to be either Kerry Ellis - Dianne Pilkington or Kerry Ellis - Kristin Chenoweth as Elphie and Glinda!!!!!

Ok, Perez…I love all the actors you threw out there, but, being a Broadway buff, I have to say HOW ABOUT PEOPLE WHO CAN ACTUALLY SING???? There's no Wicked fan out there that would say the film stars should be anyone other than Idina and Kristin. DUH.
Wicked as a movie would be sick! I definetly think they should keep Kristen Chenowith as Glinda and maybe bring in Mandy Moore as Elpheba or maybe Emmy Rossum. How exciting!!!

there would be no ohter person but kristen chenoweth and idina menzel they are so great together. they made the play what it is. i can't wait i have seen the play 3 times.
Ok Perez. Enough with obsessing over Anne Hathaway. She's really not a great actress man, I think she definetly has potential and she was good in the Princess Diary kiddy films but put her in more adult films like Becoming Jane or Get Smart and you can see the lackluster personality and the fear she has onscreen of going too far, it's like she's afraid to look stupid so she holds back so much. Girl needs to break out of her shell…maybe it's b/c of all the personal drama with that asshole bf of hers but anyway, that's my 2 cents.
Kristin is nearly 40, it'd be hard work making her look like a college student.
Same with Idina, too old to play Elphaba.

I will love to see the originals, of course, Ida Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth!!! I can not imagine who else can sing and perform like them. I am a huge fan of this musical and the last thing I want to see is someone not do the soundtrack justice.
I think it should be the original 2- Idina and Kristen! If not them, then 2 other broadway actresses. We don't want another "Phantom" movie, with 2 leads that can't really sing!

Are we sure this is a movie based on the play and not the book? I read the book and saw the play and they are both great but VERY different. The play is an upbeat musical with a happy ending. The book is pretty philosophical and touches on stereoptypes and racism and has a tragedy ending. If movie is based on the play, then I'm all for the Idina and Kristin reprising their roles. If it's based on the book, I think Reese Witherspoon or Kirstin Dunst would be great for Galinda and Natalie Portman for Elphie.

Idina and Kristen are a must. Rent had the original cast minus one member and it was almost as good as when it debuted. Wicked just wouldnt be the same without those leading ladies!
obviously the original cast needs to do it. No one could come close to their performances. Both have been in films before so taking their act to the silver screen wouldn't be a big stretch.

Hi… obviously Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth. It's a no brainer. If producers are smart they go for the orginal cast and not big huge celebs with marginal talent.
Kristin and Idina! The originals are always the best! It worked wonders for Rent. If not, use Reese Witherspoon as Ga-Linda (hah) and maybe… you know what, I can only see Idina as Elphaba. KEEP THE ORIGINAL GIRLS!

this could potentially be good news but it worries me. Wicked is an incredible musical and using sell-out actresses like mandy moore or anne hathaway would absolutely butcher it and make it a stupid chick flick, and any wicked fan should know its so much more than that. if the producers decide to use actresses who can sing as well as Kristen Chenoweth and Idina Menzel then it will be good.. otherwise, no.. not going to happen.

Emmy is amazing t she's not really pop Broadway vocaly. She could try to play elphie but I think casting the originals k and I would be way smarter or take a brand new talent like Emmy was in phantom.

Re: Maky – r u kidding she is an absolutely fantastic singer go rent Reefer Madness the musical she has an outstanding voice she's done off-broadway shows… and she is a strong high soprano she's more than capable! and the only issue w/ idina is she's almost too old to do it on stage let alone on film the camera is NOT her friend it add at-least 10 years to her face she is meant for the stage!!!

Idina and Cheno! Both have done more than Broadway - Cheno's freakin Emmy nominated - and we obviously know that they can sing (so no Rosario Dawson disaster a la Rent). MAKE THE SMART CHOICE HERE PEOPLE!

I think that Kristin Chenoweth, without a doubt should reprise her role as Glinda. I also think that either Idina Menzel OR Kerry Ellis should play Elphaba.They are both amazing and nobody can do it better than them. They can cast whoever the hell they want for the other roles. Maybe Zac Efron as Fiyero:D but he might be too young? I hope that this film is kiss ass because otherwise it will ruin the musical. I cant wait for this:)

I see alot of people against Anne Hathaway. Doesn't anyone know she's a pretty well trained soprano? I think she'd be great as Glinda. Though, Laura Bell Bundy definitely has that Glinda personality.
But I think the rest of those girls seem too sweet for the role of Elphaba. Though you never know. People always surprise you.
Also, "Defying Gravity" will never be as breathtaking on the big screen as it is live. Sorry but really, it never will. My jaw was through the floor the first time I saw that.
The original cast should be in the movie, there is no question about it!!! If they put movie stars in this movie i am sure a lot of people will be very angry. People who were trained for broadway should be in a broadway movie!!! If they cast people like Anne Hathaway they will make a big mistake because the original cast was the best of the best they dont need movie stars in a broadway play!!!

I refuse to see the movie unless Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel reprise their roles. It's meant to be that way. But seriously, I think we should leave theatre in the theatre and leave Hollywood out of it! So much will be lost in the transition to the big screen. But according to Gregory Macguire they have been in the works with the movie since the book came out and he thinks it will still be another 4-5 years until it is actually made.

of course the original cast. i just saw wicked at the pantages 2 weeks ago. it was great.the original cast would be awesome. i like both teal wicks and idena to play the wicked witch they both did a great job on stage. but out of the good witches between Kristin Chenowith or erin mackey…..i would definitely choose ERIC mackEY. i think she played a better good witch. i saw them both perform and ERIC was more bubbly and out there. i liked her "swoosh swoosh" act with the hair flipping before she sane "popular". if they cant do it i was thinking someone who already knows how to swing. for the wicked witch maybe Kristy carolson Romano. she did beauty and the beast on stage which means she can swing she may of killed her chances when she played shia leboufs older sister in Disney even Stevens show. but hey goota give the girl a chance. for the good witch i think maybe Britney snow who did hairspray or Amanda seyfried. Amanda just played Sophie in mama mia the movie. she can sing and act. we all know she can be bubbly. remember she played the dumb plastic in 2004's mean girls(the one who thought her boobs told the weather).

The original broadway cast except for Idina Menzel. Her voice is tired and weak. I would say put in Julia Murney. With her sharp features she looks perfect for the part. Also consider Annaleigh Ashford for Glinda.

first of all anne hathaway and mandy moore both cant act, and there is NO WAY mandy could handle the songs without turning them popish. Emmy Rossum's look is to sweet to play either lead, but she could possibly play Idina's sister, no problem. Now I dont know who this Kristen bell is so I have nothing to say about her. But of course I would love to see Kristen and Idina. Idina did Rent why wouldnt she do this one?

It depends on whether the movie is a musical or not (it should be). If it is then totally the original cast. If its like the book(which i hated) than maybe reese witherspoon as glinda and i dont know for elphaba but NOT anne hataway
