It's not just America. There are thousands of people losing thier GM jobs in Canada as well.
They had the opportunity a loooongg time ago to make energy-efficient cars not based on oil and chose not to….sorry, when Japan is making prototypes of cars that run on water, you either stay with the pack or lose the race!!!

Once again, instead of just regurgitating what other sources are spitting out, why not really inform your readers. GM has been on a slippery slope downward for more than 2 years. Starbucks oversaturated the market, so they're closing the stores. They overproduced across the board. Our economy only gets fucked up if we allow it to be fucked up. There are still plenty of jobs that your readers will refuse to take. So rather than assume it's a recession, do your fucking homework and realize the job loss does not mean we're in a recession. Yep it's effecting Canada too, the biggest plant in Oshawa, Ontario has already announced the closure of it's truck plant and cutting thousands at all the other plants.

We are not in a recession! A recession, by definition, is two quarters of negative growth, we have not had any negative growth! Our growth, while very sluggish, has remained positive.
Therefore, we are NOT in a recession.
I'm sorry to say but GM deserves its downfall. I've been sold a lemon and GM refuses to fix the car. Its dealerships refuse to fix the problem and so one day the car will probably just kill me. So goodbye GM and lets welcome back Ford who brought us the assembly line and the most famous cars around that last and is supported by its dealerships and its corporate honchos.

The price of oil is what's doing this, who can afford a big SUV or even $5 cup of coffee when it now costs $60 to fill up you car. We must drill on own own soil and fast. This same thing happened in the 70s and once OPEC saw we were commited to drill our own oil the price dropped overnight and not the 10 years some "people" want you to believe.
For the love of god people, support your fellow Americans. Buy American cars (their quality is as good if not better than the foreign), look for the made in America label, shop at your local stores in liew of Walmart. You hit it on the nail, if GM goes down, we all go down. GM and Ford both had hydrogen combustion engines ready to go but Bush was unwilling to develop the infrastructure necessary (i.e. hydrogen fueling stations–lets face it Exon isn't going to build them), they also have fuel cell vehicles that are not too far from production ready, but again where will the people go to fuel up???? Bush would rather let his oil buddies drill in Alaska and kill the wildlife off their so they can make billions of dollars every year, then look at real long term renewable energy sources. When will Bush finally admit we are in a recession and do something about it. Get his fat cat oil companies to give us a break, clamp down on out of control medical costs, and build some roads and schools in USA (instead of Iraq). Get American's working.

I am a GM spouse-and I have been warning for so long on the gas mileage. I always buy small GM cars with efficient engines. Hubby always told me, no one else wants them. I would bad mouth the decisions and be very vocal but I also am loyal to GM-they feed me and my family. HUbby is older, he can get Medicaire on retirement assuming its still there. I will lose my insurance but I am also the one with health problems (no matter what you do, you cannot change genetics–but I am fighting them all the way!) my minimum policy for just me will be 15 grand! with co-pays of thousands of dollars. I will be better off dying so hubby can live a decent retirement. At least the kids are grown.

They have great warranties too. Just buy what you need not what you think will impress someone. Who hte hell needs a HUMMer anyways?

Buick is very big overseas, Pontiac is iffy but I think will stick around quite a while. Cadillac is also safe (boring but safe).

So I would certainly be interested in knowing where your 150 grand line worker comes from? Some Skilled trades can make 100 grand with benefits etc, but they have exceptional training etc. And these jobs are very rare. I speak from insider info. There are a log of GM rumours, lies and sometimes its hard to decipher one from the other. There are some good blogs out here to get more of the truth. Do a google search.

Unfortunately, one of my problems is cold, so why am I still in Michigan? We need to elect people here who believe that health care is a priority that taking care of our citizens and making them healthy and educated is the way to go for the future so everyone can contribute to getting this land back to being the best, smartest and strongest. I still have high hopes and dreams for us!
