While I'm a Republican who hated Bush so bad I voted for Harry Browne in '00 and held my nose and voted for Kerry in '04, Perez really needs to stay away from topics such as economics, politics or civics. Even though he's left the federal government in insolvency and sent the military into an imminent rebuilding phase–both of which will no doubt necessitate future, growth-destroying tax increases–the overall national economic growth under Bush has been historic and basically unmatched by Presidents not named Reagan or Clinton (neither of which actually matched the growth under Bush; just approached it). And yes, Bush is right (for once) that the US economy is still growing, it's just growing a lot slower. The global economy in the developing world, however, is likely screwed due to the doubling in food prices, which can't be blamed on Bush, since it was caused solely by the Democratic Congress. You can thank Obama, Pelosi and the other congresspersons for perpetrating the fraud that is corn ethanol on both the American taxpayer and poorer nations who get both their food and livestock feed from the US. See, when you try to put a third of the food supply into automobile engines, it isn't available for sale as food or feed, making both more scarce, which jacks the price up.

If that's you're number one issue, you need to vote for McCain, since Obama, being from Illinois, is the second or third biggest corn ethanol-subsidizer in either house (corn ethanol also releases more greenhouse gases than petroleum-based fuels).

Erm, yes, you can calculate that the US economy is growing very slightly, but all of that growth is government expenditure, borrowing money and spending it on "projects" that don't create wealth or infrastructure. They're playing with numbers, it's as if you borrowed $10,000 from your credit card and told people that you just got a $10K raise.

Most of that "growth" is related to the war, and more every day is borrowed and spent on various bailout schemes - the airlines, the car companies, banks, mortgage companies. And if you remove just the war-related growth, we're negative. The "economic stimulus" checks (read: money borrowed from China, Saudi Arabia and elsewhere, to be spent on Chinese crap from Wal*Mart and oil from Saudi Arabia) will add another little bump - but it's not real! It's all just the government borrowing money, then throwing it away without producing anything.

Perez..I am afraid that you are wrong in this current point. In real ecnomic growth terms (minusing the distoring effect of inflation) was around 0.8%. FYI, Economic growth is the value off all goods and services produced in an economy over a given period of time (ushally a year). So if economic growth was around 0.8% then the economy has grown, and will continue to grow through 2008.
Just a reminder, brush up on your ecnomics. Id be happy to e-mail you some literature i have produced so you can have abit more of a well rounded economic knowledge. Or if you would like an up-to-date overview of the modern economic enviroment and how it affects you and the celebrities you covet?

How many TRILLIONS of dollars in debt are we? It doesn't take a genius to know that when you are in DEBT you have negative wealth. We went from being the Biggest CREDITOR to the BIGGEST DEBTOR. Any candidate that takes office has their work cut out for them. Both will raise taxes and it is coming people.
Anyone complaining about their mortgage payments should've went ot dollar tree and bought a calculator, then figured out how much house they could afford.

The MSM (Main Stream Media) loves to blame the economy and the lenders for the housing downturn, but what about personal responsibility? Most of the people being foreclosed on are people who bought houses when they can't afford to buy one. So the blame needs to be put on both the lenders who overlooked people's lack of liquidity and on people who couldn't afford to buy a house but got on anyways. You need to be worried about the lose of jobs if Obama is elected because he wants to end Free Trade Agreements (FTAs), thus making America isolationist and economic growth will stop. As for the price of food skyrocketing, you can thank Mr. Al Gore for that because it was his tie breaking vote that made government mandates for corn-based ethanol (requiring this countries farmers to use 60% of corn grown for the use for ethanol and only leaving 40% for food - thus driving up prices around the world), not to mention the increase in oil has also had effects in food prices. In reality, if you closely look at the policies that Obama would like to enact if he is president, you will see that he is actually the one whose policies are closest to that of President Bush. So get your head out of your asses and actually know what you are talking about and not just following blindly after listening to some speeches.
