I wasn't going to comment, but I can't help it after reading some of the responses. Yes, Bush looks like he's going to cry with every speech he makes lately. Gas prices suck, grocery prices suck too, and most people are struggling. Yet, most of you sit there criticizing Perez for making a comment, because he's "not educated." I thought Bush's speech was to "the people" of this country. Um yeah, aren't we ALL supposed to get out there and vote if we're over 18? So, I don't think you need an education to have listened to his speech and make any personal conclusions–cuz that's what it was about. We all have to make our choices by the information we're given…not everyone hears the same thing with each conversation. And lets face it, Bush has screwed this country up, for all of us. My husband and I worked 16 years for GM before they packed up and left , we sold our home cut our losses and found another job at Ford now Ford is losing plants and again we are back in the same situation we were in just 13 years ago and nce again we have to cut our losses because property value has plummetted while everyone scrambles out of town to find a new workforce. We have internet because we have children in school. By the time they get off work the library is closed so yes we have internet, a phone and running water so I am terribly sorry Princess that us grumbling about the economy makes you think we live beyond our means. The only current data available on the current state of the U.S. economy is reports from the first quarter. In that quarter the economy grew 0.9% (nearly 1%). That is not a lot, but the only country currently showing actual economic contraction is Canada.
In fact, for those of you who have not done any research (most of you), a recession does not occur until two successive quarters of economic contraction have been observed. This may happen, but even one quarter of contraction has yet to occur in the US.
For now, the economy is still growing, until more data becomes available.
It actually pains me to agree with Bush, but he is right on this one, and everyone else needs to do a little research. Seriously.
