Re: Anna – Wow, you're uneducated and ignorant blanket statement about Europe reminds me once again why I choose to live outside of the U.S. Europe is awesome, it is filled with culture and history and well travelled educated people who are able to hold an intelligent conversation about the world around them. Unfortunately the majority of Americans are unable to locate China a map.

technically, the GDP or gross domestic product has increased over the last 6 months. the definition of a recession is a negative GDP for 6 months or more. regardless how how crappy the economy feels, it's hard to deny cold hard numbers. doesn't change the fact that the unemployment rate is up and oil speculation is driving prices out of control - both things that bush could fix if he wanted to.

    Re: A gro
Even IF the economy grew nearly 1% (and, if that's true, big whoopeedoo!) inflation has grown by nearly 35% for food and 50% or more for gasoline over the past few years. It will continue to grow by leaps and bounds. So, even if you are earning 5% more than you were last year, you are still worse off than you were, say 10 years ago when you were earning significantly less. That's the problem that none of you who are supporting Bush's statements have failed to address. You are the ones who need to study economics again. The current rates of inflation are making it impossible to live even halfway comfortable lives despite the fact our actual paychecks are getting a bit larger. The majority of us have had to make significant cutbacks in our budgets just to afford to put food on our tables, buy gasoline to get to work and pay the much larger share of prescription costs our insurance has enforced. Of course, the cost of insurance has skyrocketed also, and the benefits have decreased. Please, don't lecture us on economics.

    Re: Apall
First of all, your ignorance against the united states is incredible. George Bush, although not the best president, has led our country to globalization and our economy is in fact getting better. I took an economics course and the country (as a whole) is doing better. ITS A CYCLE PEOPLE. Oh, Apall, if you're going to say that most americans are unable to find china on a map, why don't you stop being so biast and so uneducated. THere are people like that, but bitch please. Why don't you go to China.

"Fed Officials See Stronger Growth and Higher Inflation

Federal Reserve officials marked up their outlook for … economic growth in their latest projections…

At the June policy meeting, officials projected that the rate of economic growth by the end of the year would be between 1% and 1.6%, up from 0.3% to 1.2% in their April estimates. The 2009 outlook was unchanged, with officials expecting growth between 2% and 2.8%. The figures are the “central tendency” of the projections, a range of estimates from 17 sitting policy makers excluding the three highest and three lowest. They were released today with Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke’s semi-annual monetary policy report to Congress."

2% isn't much but it is growth… don't post if you don't know what you're talking about… it just makes you look dumber than dirt.

    Re: Anna
    #472
Ah, the last resort of the brainwashed Rightard, "America, love it or leave it." So very typical of your kind to resort to personal attacks when faced with undeniable truth!
Get a clue, Anna: millions of decent, patriotic Americans are trying to take their country back RIGHT NOW, before it's too late. And guess what? We're not going anywhere! FYI, I'm neither a deadbeat OR filthy rich. There ARE alternatives, you know. Nope, I'm just an ordinary, working American from an ordinary family, trying to get by. And yes, I have been to Europe, several times, because travel is my passion and I don't waste my money on meaningless bullshit.
As for Europe being a "toilet," just what is it you object to? The superior healthcare, education, food or employment benefits? The strong Euro? The unwillingness of Europeans to involve themselves in a pointless and bloody war in Iraq?
Do you really want to live in a nation of complacent sheep who allow their leaders to get rich off the public coffers while our infrastructure falls apart? America is far from perfect, and there's much that can be done to improve it. At least, I can admit it and try to do something about it. Can you?

I agree that Bush is not a very good speaker in a large crowd, but he is not dumb as you say. In one sentence, you call him dumb & the next you say he's an oil tycoon. How can that be if you are an idiot? How do you gain wealth if you're an idiot? Also, Bush excelled higher than Kerry in college. If our economy is in trouble, it's because of the Democrats blocking any good changes that Bush tried to bring forth & the oil problems today started with the Clinton Administration. Most of you young peeps don't know the facts and only repeat what you hear on the bias news networks & blogs. Vote Obama & get a third Clinton Administration. Uggg…

All of you pleople that think that you are so smart, and think that you can run a country (OUR beautiful country of the United States of America) better, listen up you dumb asswipes………..Clinton did not do anything but fuck other women when he could have taken "out" Osama bin Laden in at LEAST 3 seperate occasions, but he would much rather have his dick sucked, Bush I at least DID SOMETHING about the COLD WAR, Ford was useless, Carter was even worse, JFK died before he had the chance to do anything Destructive, he was murdered before he had a chance with the Cubans, and then started Vietman (which by far, was the worst war), and all of you pleople out there who think that Bush II is just the worst, think about what your life is going to be like in a year when your taxes are HIGHER, WHEN YOU CAN'T FIND A JOB, WHEN YOU CAN'T AFFORD GAS, AND WHEN YOU CAN'T EVEN LEAVE THE HOUSE BECAUSE THE TALIBAN AND THE ISLAMIC EXTREMISTS RULE OUR STREETS, SCHOOLS, OUR COUNTRY, OUR WORLD……IF OBAMA IS ELECTED. WAKE UP YOU MORONS!!!! It is so amazing how people have the memory of a tadpole in this country and how they are brainwashed by the media. Use your own mind, not someone else's….it is much more gratifying. (Think about it).

    524

Perez you idiot you know nothing about politics or the economy. The economy is growing. Our GDP has grown about 20% in the past 5 years. Although the housing market has slowed that does make the whole economy going backwards. Our manufacturing sector has grown on average about 2% per quarter. Our domestic exports have grown over 12% just in the last year. A recession consist of (2) negative quarters of growth, so far we have not experienced one. Because growth has slowed not stopped and people are upset about their spending more than they can afford, does make it Bushs fault. People need to learn to live within their means and not expect the Goverment to cover their asses for their own stupid mistakes. Please stick to gossip and try to get help for your Bush Derrangement Syndrome. As well as all you other uneducated, misinformed BDR's here you need help and a little education couldn't hurt.

    Re: stacy
Paranoid much? It amazes me how much the first 8 years of a man's life all the sudden cancells his remaining 30 plus he's experienced! Tell me something, did you have control of your life from birth to 8? Are your the same person you were when you were 15? 18? 21? The answer is NO! Life experiences changes you, people do not remain static they change!
The man is NOT Muslim ( not that there is anything wrong with being Muslim), the man is mixed (classified as black in this country), is educated, comes from a working class family, grandpa served in WW2 & just finished paying off his student loans so, OBAMA IS US!!! JUST BECAUSE THE MAN PULLED A ALEX HALEY DOESN'T MEAN HE'S NOT QUALIFIED TO BE PRESIDENT! A lot of what I read on here is rooted in Irrational fear, racism and religous prejudice. I guess equality only applies to those that r white. In America, only white christians r fit for the job of President which disqualifies the rest of us, you know, the Asians, Hispanics, Blacks, Indians, South East Asians, Muslims, Agnostics, Athiests, Spiritualists, Budhists, B'Hais & a plethora of others that live in this country as well.
NOW Bush is a Boob I'm sorry, & as an ex. of what Harvard & Yale produces, Please people don't waste your $. Send ur kids to Brown, MIT, OSU, UofC, Northwestern, Berkley, MSU, Hampton University, Loyola University, Purdue, UIC, to name a few… Quality education at a bargain price!

"How do you gain wealth if you're an idiot?" you ask. Simple, by being born into it! Newsflash: not EVERY wealthy person is a genius. You can get VERY far in this country if you're born to wealthy and connected parents, even if you happen to be a complete moron. That's exactly how Bush got into those Ivy League schools and avoided the draft to Vietnam! As for Obama, he put HIMSELF through school with scholarships and student loans. Quite the difference, no?

    530

All these "the economy is actually growing," and "it's not a recession, yet" posters can blather on all they like about the technical definitions of hard, economic times.
Tell it to the folks whose decent jobs have been shipped overseas and can no longer earn a living wage. Or talk to the people whose homes have lost half their value. And what about Americans who've ALREADY lost their homes, and are finding it more and more difficult to put food on the table, gas in their tanks or provide healthcare and education for their families? We're teetering on the brink and unless we elect leaders who are serious about solving these problems, rather than lining their own pockets, we WILL go over the edge.
It's not some esoteric, theoretical bullshit that only an enlightened few can understand. It's the result of 8 years of stunningly bad government, thanks to the Bush administration. If you insist on running the country like Ken Lay ran Enron, collapse is inevitable. And AT LAST, judging by Bush's approval rating, most Americans are finally getting wise.

  31. Mike says – reply to this

    531

Why is he still in office? America will go into a deep depression if we give him a third term in office through McCain. America has a lot of crazy red necks that like Bush and his 'good ol days' thinking. If it was up to the red necks we would have slavery, women wouldnt vote, gays, blacks, and jews would all be killed. Time for people to wake up, put their bibles down and get a clue before its too late for us in America.

Bush is the real terrorist. All he cares about is money and oil. We could be 100% oil free by now but instead we are looking to dig for more oil?? Let's hope there is some karma coming his way.

It's an interview with one of Chimpy's former professors, Yoshi Tsurumi, who talks about Dubya's outrageous sense of entitlement, poor academics, and complete lack of ethics. Bush even ADMITTED to Tsurumi that he snagged his spot in the National Guard through his daddy's connections.
Bush finished in the bottom 10 percent of the class. I can assure you, Ren, without Dubya's family connections, he'd be flipping burgers at McD's or more probably in jail. Linz: You know nothing about me or the kind of "stress" I can "handle." If you mean could I handle snorting blow, avoiding the draft, while getting a free Ivy League education with a guaranteed pass, yeah, I think I could handle it.
Btw, I have nothing against wealthy people, per se. Plenty of them have made valuable contributions to this country. It's rich, unethical slackers whose money gives them an unwarranted sense of superiority and entitlement that I can't stand!

    Re: wer
Why don't you go google Bush and Harvard and see what you get since everyone wants to throw his education up as justification for his STUPIDITY.
In the meantime since yale and Harvard are frauds for lettng him graduate I will keep my ass at the University of Chicago, graduate, enter the workforce and pull myself up by my OWN bootstraps, not by mommy and daddy's connections, pay my student loans and work hard to get ahead because THAT IS WHAT HARD WORKING EVERYDAY AMERICANS DO!
How quickly people forget about people approaching retirement age ready to sell their homes and move into a condo or something and witness their homes drastically DROP in value while their medical bills SKYROCKET and the FIXED INCOME they are living on is suddenly NOT ENOUGH. That is my grandparents situation right now. Go Fuck Yourself…

    Alright for everyone complaining here-

why don't you become the fucking president or at least move? If you don't support how this country is running, at least try to do something to change it or get the fuck out. Appreciate the country you live in and take advantage of the opportunities it gives, which are a hell of a lot more than most.
