She's from the U.K., and I'm pretty certain she's referring to the quality of life in L.A. compared to, well, almost anywhere else. Angelinos who have never lived and raised children anywhere else simply have no basis for comparison. There are places in the world where you have strong community, good water, green and gardens, and are friends with your neighbors, and other people will scoop up your dog for you if it gets loose and you don't know it. In L.A., people do have your back; so that they can climb up and over it to get to the next payoff.

I couldn't agree with her more. I moved from Michigan to LA, thinking it would be glamorous and fun! After a year and a half, I was done. I couldn't stand the wannabes and metrosexual men- I like my midwest, all american boys in jeans and baseball caps! Plus I could never imagine raising kids in such a shallow, fake and polluted place. I am back in Michigan and couldn't be happier!

I have a love/hate relationship with L.A., it does have a lot of subcultures, places to eat, museums, it's really fun. What sucks is the whole "having to drive everywhere" and the gang violence, and the whole fakeness. I think fake people is due to the whole entertainment business, if we took that out maybe it would be ok (but we can't cuz that's where we get the money).
I've been to other places up in Central California, NYC, O.C. and I really like Los Angeles the most. I'm happy that I moved back to L.A.

I LOVE L.A. for all its different flavors: Silverlake, West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Melrose, Mid-town Wilshire, Santa Monica, well, all the coastal areas Malibu, Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo Beach. And most people would consider the O.C., L.A (if you're not from there). All the ethic enclaves like China, Thai, Indian towns. I like the fact that these places ARE DISTINCTIVE and you really get a taste of everything. But I'm sure you get that with all other big cities but we're just more "HOLLYWOOD" here but that also sets us APART FROM ALL THE REST.
I was born and raised in So. Cal and I completely agree with her. I live in L.A. County but the furthest east in a city called Claremont. Claremont is a very rare exception with comfortable home and school life. Outside, it's congested, expensive and schools are a joke.

I used to hate LA before I moved here and I had no reason except buying into the stereo types created by people that had only visited and like myself based my impressions off of Hollywood and Santa Monica. ONce you live here and realize how much this place has to offer it is amazing, people are diverse and just minutes away you can be in the mountains or on incredible coastline. There is more shit happening here on one block than most cities have in their entire metro area.
