Someone might be getting a Jenny McCarthy beatdown!
Amanda Peet had a few choice words for parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids in the July issue of Cookie magazine.
The pro-childhood vaccinations actress said, "parents who don't vaccinate their children are parasites."
Peet has since issued an apology for her 'mean and divisive' comment but stands firm on her position regarding childhood vaccinations.
Like Jenny McCarthy, there are many who believe that vaccinations could cause Autism.
Thankfully, Peet acknowledged that name calling has no place in the ongoing debate.

Several papers showing that adding low levels of Thimerosal to certain blood, brain, eye, immune, liver and/or muscle cells poisons their cellular mitochondrial pathways and can induce cell death.
A published study by researchers at Harvard University that found twice as much mercury and oxidative stress in the brains of those with an autism diagnosis as found in the brains of those who were normal.
LETS FACE THE FACT THAT THERE SHOULD BE AN AGE LIMIT ON REPRODUCTION! Numerous papers by independent researchers showing a link between increasing mercury exposure from childhood vaccines and the risk of a child developing an autistic disorder.
VACCINATE FOOL! Not right to call names but it is also not right to cause some kind of old school disease to start again like it is the 1930's! Sure there are a handful of kids who have reactions but there are millions who don't.
If you look more into alternative medicine, you find out the the drug companies are the ones doing the so called "studies". They have a way of making the outcome any way that favors them. Do you know how much money the drug companies would be out if we did not vaccinate our kids. Educate yourself on both sides before making a decision. I also have a friend who's daughter is autistic, and there are studies (not by the drug companies) that show how dangerous all that mercury can be on a young child.
Just lost all respect for Amanda…….can the girl not read? Time, Newsweek, The NY Times?
All have discussed problems with the fluid the inoculations are in. This is a very serious issue…autism is up and we all need to be concerned about why.

Today, despite being banned in Europe and restricted in 7 U.S. states, Thimerosal-containing flu vaccines are still recommended for routine administration to pregnant women and infants, with little or no warning of the presence of this known poison in these and other vaccines.
Vaccines have and will continue to save many lives. However, an immediate ban and recall of vaccines and other drugs containing mercury compounds used in their production must be instituted immediately to stop the epidemic of developmental disorders, including autism, caused by the unsound use of mercury in medicine.

She may have meant this literally as parents who don't vaccinate their kids rely on the fact that most people do. No polio etc. going around. If polio was still common, people would jump for vaccine, unsubstantiated risks not withstanding.

Sure, you can read - but you need enough of an education on scientific matters to be able to tell what you are reading is shit.
There are dozens of studies done by researchers who have no link to vaccine manufacturers at all that show there is no connection between vaccines and autism. There were a few strudies that say they show a link - one of the most famous was one from 1998 that claimed there was a link between the MMR vcaccine and autism, except guess what? !0 out of the 13 authors later recinded their conclusions! They had written a paper using only 12 subjects, which is statistically tenuous at best - you cannot make a statement regarding vacciones based on 12 kids!
Plus, a Danish study on approximately 500 kids) has shown that there is an equal percentage of non-vaccinated kids being diagnosed with autism as there are vaccinated kids developing it.

thimerosal was removed as a preservative in vaccines in the U.S., based on a request from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) (it remains in some influenza vaccines and in some vaccines outside of the U.S.). The request was made as a precautionary measure, and not because there was evidence to accept or reject a causal relationship between thimerosal and autism. (Thimerosal is still used during manufacturing for some vaccines to ensure sterility, but the trace amounts remaining are 50 times lower than when thimerosal is used as a preservative.) And not all forms of mercury are the same — ethyl ain't methyl. Same as in alkyhol - ethyl ain't methyl!!

I work in healthcare. Vaccines don't cause autism, it's just a coincidence that autism is typically first noticed around the time babies get vaccinated because it's just that age. Vaccinate your kids. It's not just about them, but about everyone else too, so they don't pass things on.

Taking your child to the doctor for a small needle prick is much less painful and a lot easier than having them admitted and treated for potentially life-threatening diseases, a small pain saves them a lot of pain later. It's stupid not to vaccinate.

Would i have liked to have an option in regard to the overwhelming amount of vaccinations my son needed… YES but I live in a world where I need to work, he needs to go to daycare, vaccinations required and eventually he will need to go to school, again vaccinations required.. if only I win the lottery.

There's a nice form that parents can fill out to be exempt from the law. There's a lot of misinformation out there… just do a little research and you'd be amazed at what you find.

Jenny McCarthy doesnt think that the vaccinations themselves cause autism, it is thimerisol (Sp?) mercury in the vaccinations that may be implicated in the development of autism. HOWEVER you can tell your doctor you do not want your children to get vaccines containing this substance…they make mercury free versions

I feel it is necessary to vaccinate children, measles, mumps,rubella can kill.
Newer vaccines need to be researched longer. My son had a one series of a diarhea vaccine when he was an infant, then they took it off the market.
MMR, DPT are necessary vaccines for serious illnesses. Hepatitis B vaccine
is also important. Now because of so many young children being sexually active, there is a need for gardisil for the HPV virus. This vaccine can be
adminstered at nine years old. HPV causes cancer in women.

i almost feel bad agreeing with you, but i do! There is a snarky parenting board i frequently post at (delphi forums, Isle of Whack), where the people are generally very cool and are quick to put the slap down on stupidity….
But there is one big exception: every third parent there seems to have a kid they claim has autism! In fact, you see a rash of new "diagnoses" every time one of the more popular people on the board has a kid diagnosed with it!
Autism is a very real disease with devestating consequences, but i would wager a bet that the reason there are so many newly diagnosed kids has a lot more to do with parents who feel better slapping a label on their unruly child (frequently saying the kids has Asperger's) than it has to do with the number of kids who truly have the disorder.

As the mom of a child with autism, I honestly don't know what to believe on this subject. I had heard of the "risks" associates with the MMR vaccine before my son was vaccinated, but I didn't think it was an option not to get the shots. I think the risks of not being vaccinated actually outweigh the risks associated with the shots.
Disappointing that Amanda Peet would make such a extreme statement. It is a choice…and while there is no proof that vaccines cause Autism, they have not yet disproved the cases yet either. It's a personal choice.
Vaccinations are unnecessary and dangerous. They are nothing but a big money maker for pharmacuetical companies. The human body has been protecting itself for thousands of years. It is appalling that companies profit from a product that is detrimental to children's natural ability to ward off illness and disease. Personal and environmental hygiene will do far more for kids. Item: I got a kid who has an allergy to the most insanely common element in our environment but since only 30 people in the world have the same allergy there'll never be any research or drugs to help her (it's not fatal, so she can cope). Obviously half of you don't know what you are talking about when you use the word Autistic…. It is Autism and should always be called that… a child with Autism, not an Autistic child. Second, I work as a teacher for children with Autism and see parents struggling to come up with reasons why everyday. Unfortunately, there is NO known reason why. Vaccines have not been proven as a trigger, diets have not been shown to improve children, only ABA therapy, Speech therapy and other therapies have been know to improve a child with Autism…. No child "recovers" from Autism either, Jenny McCarthy should never claim that, if her child "recovered" then he never had it. It is not a cold, medications don't heal it… only therapies help. Read some books and know some things before you speak is my only suggestion, half the people that comment on this probably don't know the first thing about Autism.
my mother was a first grade school teacher and because a mother who believed vaccinations were harmful had her unvaccinated child who ended up contracting a strain of the measles was enrolled in my mother's class when she was carrying my oldest sibling my sibling was born blind and with hearing impairments. this was in the early 70's.
if one is concerned about vaccinations they can request vaccinations without the perservatives that have been thought to have links (unfounded as of yet) to conditions such as autism.

Can you read?? I'm in support of vacs! I'm against people who think that pharma is evil. I was pointing out that if there was a drug available for my kid I'd have her take it. My point is that her condition is so rare that no one would make such a drug. But since other drugs are available for other things, I'm happy. I wasn't bitching, I was using a personal item as an example to make a point (obviously I failed at that, though). Readings not a big thing for you,though, is it??
(btw, I've paid for all elements of raising my kids, including paying full tuition at schools from pre-school to college so where you get that I want someone to subsidize me I don't know. You must be projecting.)

When 1 of every 150 children is diagnosed with Autism we absolutely have to question what causes this childhood epidemic…there is no conclusive evidence for the cause of Autism. Dietary restrictions, vaccinations, and other methods need to be monitored, researched, and evaluated so we can find the piece of this puzzle that puts an end to it!

Well there is a big difference between necessary vaccinations and unnecessary ones metal. Apples to oranges. Anyways, I don't have a problem with delaying some of these vaccinations and not lumping most of them into just a span of 6 months to a year or so. The flu vaccine I agree is another that is just plain ludicrous. There is nothing wrong with feeling ill for a day or two while strengthing the immune system. What will these people do when a superflu comes? They will be completely wiped out as their body is unable to handle anything. Living in a plastic bubble is not the way to go. I also don't agree with the quick prescriptions for meds with simple things like an ear infection etc. Most kids' bodies can fight that! Give it a day or two, then if still a problem, get the antibiotics. But really, the OVERPRESCRIPTION of antibiotics is what's causing these strains that are producing resistance! Most of what docs do is to prevent themselves from lawsuits, but it's completely unnecessary!
#1- 25 years ago, children were vaccinated just 7 times. Todays babies get 27 shots.
#2-the CDC will NEVER find (admit) a link between vaccines and autism, because it would cause the BIGGEST class action lawsuit of all time. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN.
#3-Mercury is STILL present in the MMR vaccine. Fact. In the shots where mercury was removed, it was replaced with FORMALDEHYDE.
#4-Why did the CDC remove mercury from any of the shots if it was "harmless"???
#5-When Japan changed their vaccination schedule and waited until 2 years of age to begin shots, they went from the highest incidence of SIDS (crib death) to 17th place world-wide. That was the ONLY thing that changed. SIDS affects mostly 8-14 week old babies…the same time shots begin.
#6-REPEAT: The CDC will NEVER admit the link….the ramifications would be unthinkable.

The people behind it are in it for the money, they don't care about you. They don't care if their products are dangerous or detrimental to the long term health of humans. How long do you think it will be before we see adverse affects other than direct injury caused by the vaccines themselves? How long do you think it will be before we have SUPER disease that most humans can't survive a bout with? You do understand that hospitals are now breeding SUPER germs? I'm a nurse….there is no reliable or valid study that leads us to believe vaccinations are in any way correlated to autism. Autism has been grossly underdiagnosed in the past. It's diagnosed way more early now and kids are getting the psychosocial treatment they need. Vaccinations are the reason we don't have people dying of chicken pox and other epidemic diseases of the past. If you really want to help…be on the look out for autistic tendancies and intervene as early as possible!
The number of uninformed commenter's on here is quite scary. As a medical researcher who works in the field of infectious disease, it is very surprising that people have been influenced by opinions of movie stars, rather than the thousands of publications and studies which have demonstrated the benefits of vaccination. Vaccinations has eradicated the most serious health threats that in the past have killed millions upon millions of people. There is currently NO scientific evidence to support the notion that vaccines cause autism. Even people who work in the field of autism say there is NO scientific evidence to support this view. While I understand that it is scary that autism is affecting such a large percent of the population, we should not rush to assumptions that contradict overwhelming medical findings. Please, please, please do not listen to opinions of people who are famous over than those who have devoted their entire lives to understanding the mechanisms of disease.

My son had high fever and rapid breathing after having his 4 year old vaccinations. We had to take him to the emergency room in the middle of the night. His arm was so swollen he couldn't wear a shirt, the swelling lasted over a week! Please be careful, advocate for your children. I personally know a child who is autistic due to vaccinations. Being a cautious and responsible parent is not being a parasite.
