Someone might be getting a Jenny McCarthy beatdown!
Amanda Peet had a few choice words for parents who refuse to vaccinate their kids in the July issue of Cookie magazine.
The pro-childhood vaccinations actress said, "parents who don't vaccinate their children are parasites."
Peet has since issued an apology for her 'mean and divisive' comment but stands firm on her position regarding childhood vaccinations.
Like Jenny McCarthy, there are many who believe that vaccinations could cause Autism.
Thankfully, Peet acknowledged that name calling has no place in the ongoing debate.

I am so shocked to see the massive amount of ignorance on this board. Until there are studies that PROVE medically these claims, none of you have a leg to stand on. Many of you who claim there are studies that PROVE they cause autism you are flat out wrong. By the way, I have a 6 year old son, who is autistic. Vaccinations are the new scapegoat for parents who are pissed that this happened to their child- grow up.

I am for Amanda Peet. I read the article and she asked her brother in law who is a pediatrician who put her in contact with another pediatrician who gave her the facts, so before you say she is talking out of her ass and should shut her pie hole go tell the fucking drs who gave her the CORRECT information. There is no connection between shots and autism. I work with children with autism two of which have NEVER gotten shots. How'd they get autism? Hmmmm think about it. People who don't vaccinate are in the wrong for making the rest of this world sick.

Amanda Peet is an uneducated moron. After all, she received her information from a drug manufacturer, Paul Offit. My baby and I were injured by vaccines last year. After my hearing was damaged by one rubella vaccine and my infant suffered from congestion, convulsions, high-pitched screaming, developmental delays, and regression in milestones from his vaccines (DTaP, HIB, and IPV) - I then did my homework. What I found was that he was given an ingredient in his DTaP vaccine called phenoxyethanol, which the FDA claims is not safe for infants to consume. The FDA removed a nursing mother's nipple cream in May of 2008 because it contained it. This ingredient can cause respiratory distress, convulsions, and depression of the central nervous system. I am lucky that he is alive. Hearing damage is actually listed as a side effect for the rubella vaccine too. Was it worth it considering that there were only 14 cases of Congenital Rubella Syndrome one year before the vaccine came on the market (according to the CDC)? There were even less cases in previous years. So, open mouth/insert foot Amanda. This is one family who will no longer support you. I've done my homework and this is one family who will never vaccinate again.

Well if you are not going to take any other action post natally regarding spacing out vaccines, postponing vaccinations until after 2, and separating out combined vaccines such as the MMR as the CDC recommends then I would recommend to at least avoid eating more than 2 tuna fish sandwiches per week to avoid mercury exposure.

The TOTAL misunderstanding is this: All we are asking, as parents of Austic children, is that these innoculations be spread out over a longer time frame. Lots of these kids (including mine), had intestinal issues PRIOR to receiving his MMR. Screen these kids, find out their physiology, and then adjust their innoculation schedule accordingly!!! It's shouldn't be a "One size fits All" series of shots!!! Why are all you pro-vaccine people so judgemental??? Innoculate your own kids, run your OWN RISK of changing your childs life, and that of your entire FAMILY FOREVER!!!!

People keep spouting off about research, but it seems very few actually do it.
There has been no scientific study linking autism to vaccinations, in fact, many of the studies have proven and INCREASE in autism when preservatives were removed from vaccines. I feel terrible for parents who have children with vaccinations, but you should not feel guilty that you have vaccinations have induced it if you had a seemingly healthy child.
And for those who do not understand the concept of vaccinations: They are given to people who do not have immunity to a disease in order to protect them against the disease. Of course you would vaccinate a baby, you want to give them immunity before they have contact with the disease!! If you wait until they are 10-12 there is absolutely NO reduction of risk, there is no point in vaccinating at all!! You have to protect them before they are exposed to the disease! And vaccines themselves are no more dangerous than a child eating a fistful of dirt or putting their mouth on a soda can. They have safe ingredients, probably a lot safer than the other millions of particles they are exposed to every single day - like dirt and skin bacteria.
I really wish people would consider the safety of their children and prevent LIFE THREATENING diseases in children by vaccinating them. And YES, the diseases they protect against are life threatening, even the chicken pox in some children. More deadly than autism, thats for certain.

Dawn, Im sorry you and your son had some effects of the vaccines. Did you know that phenoxyethanol one of the most common preservatives used in most products, including deodorant, soap, cosmetics, etc. I am sure that NO products were removed from the market because of this ingredient, and if you wash your child in soap, he has probably already been exposed to it.
In addition, do you ever wonder why only 14 people were diagnosed with rubella in the last year? Because most people are vaccinated against it. Take a wild guess if the 14 people who got the disease were vaccinated. Probably not.
The ONLY reason many diseases are not rampently infecting people is because most people are smart enough to get themselves and their children vaccinated. If the majority of people stop, its pretty much guarenteed that it will become more prevalent. Irradication is caused by vaccinations - and it takes a long time for that to happen. There are still people infected with the black plauge every year!

I would like to know how parents justify not feeding their babies honey in their first year of life out of fear of botulism, but freel allow aluminum, mercury, formaldahyde, ether, and a VERY long list of chemicals to be injected into them on a regular schedule. How does this make sense to you? Don't you want vaccines to be as safe as possible? Why blindly support them when they are full of neurotoxins that DON'T need to be there? And you cannot use the "its such a minute amount" arguement, that does not fly in any realm - it only takes a tiny amount to screw up the brain cells, immune system, ect., of human babies. Think about it! We question the ingredients in lotions, bottles, diapers on our babies skin, but we INJECT much worse chemicals into their blood stream many times over before they can even walk. This is insane.
I work in medical research and the doctors I work with have very strong opinions about not vaccinating children. They are not family doctors nor do they benefit from these injections so I believe their opinions are not biased. What people don't understand is that the doctor who came out and said that these injections were harming children retracted his findings later. He publicly stated that he altered the results in his "research", apologized and later committed suicide. All of these parents are going to feel VERY bad when their children get sick with the measles, mumps or rubella. Outbreaks may go away but they always come back. Jenny McCarthy is using her celebrity status to warp the minds of parents and this is wrong.

It's protecting about 100 people (out of about 300 million in the US) from death by Chicken Pox. Wow. I'm sure those 100 families are devistated by the loss, and I feel for them, but I don't think it's necessary to vaccinate for this childhood disease, that is typically uncomfortable, but not even close to being fatal. I know the dangers of vaccinating. I'm on your team you dope.

as a child i had measles, mumps, and chickenpox. I can barely recall the time spent ill and i was no different from any other child i grew up with. if we don't allow children to get these relatively harmless diseases at a young age, then we risk further complications if they become ill later in their teens. parents should assess the risks (and yes there are risks!), versus the benefits of each individual vaccination, and make an informed choice. hating on people for their choice is shameful. there's even a vaccine for diarrhea! maybe Amanda Peet should find out if there's one for verbal diarrhea ; )

All of you who think that children shouldn't be vaccinated are obviously uneducated about the importance of having it done and uneducated about what Autism is. It is an inherited disorder and cannot be given to someone by a vaccine! Seriously, there was one mother claiming that her son contracted Autism from a vaccine and it has not been proven. BUT I can tell you that there has been a genetic sequence linked to Autism WHICH MEANS YOU CANNOT CONTRACT IT FROM A VACCINE. The media continually exaggerates health reports to scare people and healthcare providers have to deal with the ignorance of people that believe these things. Because of the movie "Awake" and certain 20/20 specials, everyone is afraid to be put under anesthesia. They dont understand that anesthesia awareness is extremely rare and only occurs in high risk patients (trauma, cardiac surgery that requires bypass). So please invesigate health issues other than listening to the radio or television, and have your children vaccinated, it's extremely important.

in the early 90's they reinvented many of the vaccines because they believed the chemicals and other ingrediants in them could have been contributing to the rise of autism. however, without success, autism is still on the rise today. it if very important for children to be vaccinated. without vaccinations, things like small poxs could make a HUGE come back within a few short years. vaccinate your kids, please!

People that blindly side with the vaccine industry should really take in account that what they are doing is not siding with children that are affected by autism.
They are in a sense ignoring the problem that is occuring in this country.
They are ignoring the cries of parents that have VACCINATED and now have an autistic child.

It is a fact that vaccines cause autism and its proven. So people like Amanda Preet better recognize and do her research. cause i'll laugh if her child ends up autistic. so, but its true.
I'm really glad that this post is up. I am 3 months pregnant and I am thinking about opting out of vaccinating my child. It's so hard to decide what's is right or wrong. I do think that most people feel as if vaccinations are necessary because we are told they are. But it seems to me that if the vaccines are there it makes since to maybe wait until your child is out of such a vulnerable age before injecting them with POTENTIALLY dangerous vaccines. But this post has definitely made me want me to look into this whole debate.
Vaccinations became the norm in the us after the polio vaccine apparently rid the country of the epidemic….however the disease had already run its course throughout the nation, AND people don't realize that at the same time, water purification also became the norm in us cities. We have clean water and food, therefore far less disease. Vaccines can be helpful, but they aren't a cure-all, it has more to do with sanitation. We also need to figure out a way to green them up. They are full of known toxins, such as mercury, as preservatives. Parents need to demand greener vaccines.

Amanda Peet's daughter is not speaking? That is a DEFINITE sign of vaccine damage. Developmental delays are a good indicator of future learning disabilities - which can be caused by overload of toxic chemicals!! Trust me - I know! Been there, done that, done vaccinating my kids.
One BIG thing ive found reading and contributing to this post is how different the american health care system must be to the australian. ive read ALOT of comments about the pharm companies brainwashing people and doctors, and that vaccines are about producing money rather than saving lives. In australia there is never any mention of pharm companies profiting from our health problems. my prescription medication is identical no matter where i get it from. the same brand and ingredients. for medication to be allowed to be sold it must pass 2 yrs of government tests and is under a government sceme so it cannot be over priced. also there tends to only be a few brands at most for different medications and its our choice if we want the cheaper or more expensive brand.
our vaccines are paid for and made by the government (except for a few that are only needed if travelling). it just amazes me cause we have very very few people here who dont vaccinate and its never an issue or debate.yet in this post people are arguing about companies only trying to make money…would be interesting to see it the ingredients of our vaccines are different. if they are then u could have cause to say their just trying to profit…if there the same then id say thats a poor excuse.
