It Got Heated!
Filed under: Barbara Walters > Elizabitch Hasselbeck > Whoopi GoldbergThe ladies of The View were discussing Jesse Jackson's use of the "N" word this morning and things got quite explosive.
Elizabitch broke down in tears.

I think Elizabeth is right, no one should use a word that is derogatory to another race especially one as inflammatory as the n word.
I never thought the day would come when I would actually agree with elizabeth. I agree with everything she stood for. Any use of the word is ignorant. I don't care if your family grew up saying it as a term of endearment. Who do you think made that word up? Racist people and we don't live in an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, you can't take the word back and make it your own, it's offensive and will always be offensive.
Re: Chad – For God sake we are more than likely going to have a black president! So why sit around and think about how horrible things were? Think about how much RACISM has been stomped down by us as Americans. I can absolutely say that when I hear anyone use the N word it makes me so angry because that is one of the most ignorant words in our vocabulary. So when we say that we are using it because we now have the power over that word, it makes me sick. Why in the hell would anyone want the power over a word that brought us down as people for so many years? Let the word die, and look to the future for positivity not to the past for negativity.
I love and hate Elizabeth
I think Elizabeth showed a lot of heart in what she was saying, but I also think she showed a lot of ignorance, benevolent as it may be. It's kind of sad, because a lot of intelligent people have reasoned as Elizabeth has, but it's ultimately out-of-touch with reality. Maybe the world will be like that one day, and Elizabeth seems to be working to make the world a more ideal place. But until we're there, it's ignorant to talk as if we are.
Re: KT – Very Good point…….
I personally think that if people are constantly talking about how seperated colors are and how we are all fighting for the rights of every color and every race, then why the hell are we allowing black people to say the n word, and not white? As the blond girl was trying to make the point, that by allowing one color to use the word and not the other, we're teaching our children that color exists and that we're all different, when really we're all the same, we're all human! If we take out the borders and boundaries, we all become equal!!!
Barbara fire that rude interrupting bigot gay hater republican fake crying biatch! I'm sure she's antisemitic too!
Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! Poor n1gg3rs! Do you need more food stamps? Or maybe we should legalize crack cocaine so 80% of you don't end up in prison at some point? Poor, poor n1gg3rs…my heart is bleeding.
the world isn't balanced because of this kind of crap…."it's okay for me…it's not okay for you" WHATEVER! THAT is why racism still exists!
Re: NJFut – I totally agree with you
I'm Latina and I hate it when so called "Latino Leaders" try and speak for me and my beliefs. Not all Latinos, Blacks, Whites, Asians, etc. behave exactly alike. We all have one thing in common though…we are all humans…end of story!
I think whoopi's point is actually a very good one- by blacks using the word themselves (when they first began to do so) it took away some of the word's "power," it was no longer a word basically "owned" by white people in order to degrade blacks.
however, on elizabeth's side, while racism does still exist in just inherent social practices (it's more subtle than you think. The social norm is to be white. If you're describing a black person, you would probably start with "well, they're black, tall, etc.." but when describing a white person you wouldn't mention their "whiteness.") I don't think the word should be thrown around so loosely anymore– it just underlines the differences between races (I can use this, you can't) & causes a great deal of confusion in a world where everyone strives to be "politically correct" today.
As much as Elisabeth annoys me, I agree with her here. I hate the N word and I don't think anyone should use it. To me, as a white person, it sounds just as digusting coming out of the mouth of black people as it does with any other race. How are we going to teach people not to use the word, when the very people that it affects are using it?
Wahh!!!!!!!!!
Elizabeth so started FAKE crying when everyone was turning on here… or she was real crying but because she was being put in her place not because that topic was sensitive to her… I don't even know why she cares so much! She's not black and no one will ever call her the n-word and she doesn't have to use it! But she just loves telling people what they can and can't do and what's "moral".
Ok - you don't want me to use the N-word? That's totally fine with me.
Then I demand that non-white people can never use the words redneck, white trash, or honky.
And if they do I'm gonna jump all over them and rip them a new asshole for being "racists."
Sorry hypocrites - If you're gonna dish it, you better be able to take it.
the N word is a horrible word and I dont think its fair if we are trying to be united and live equally to say only black people can use that word. I think that its a very offensive word and the fact that only black people can use it is just ridiculous and hypocritical. I dont go around calling my family spics WHY bc its wrong!! I think that if they want to eliminate the N word they should start by accepting that its offensive and just as bad if a black person use the word in their own home
I complety agree with Elizabeth. Why would black people want to recognize and use a derogetory word as a term of endeerment? Back when Black people were slaves their "masters" called them the n word, they weren't even called by their owns names. The N word stands for hate, and ignorance.
I agree with Elizabeth 100%! The N word should not be used, in public or private. If I can't say a word to your face, I should be saying it behind your back.
elizabitch is so annoying but i agree with her on this one. WTF?? STOP USING THE WORD. I love how theyre making excuses for WHY they NEED to USE it like shut the fuck up and get a life. If you mother raised u WELL you wouldnt be using that word at ALL!
I totally agree with Elizabeth. Black people should stop using the word if it is so horrible that white people can't say it.
THANK YOU Obama '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Atleast some people freaking get it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re: Freed – Of course republicans would not want a draft. After Vietnam, this country would not allow it, not for a war of choice like Iraq. Republicans knew the war would be over and their rich friends could no longer profit.
I am agreeing with Elizabeth, IF YOU DON'T WANT WHITE PEOPLE TO USE IT THEN BLACK PEOPLE SHOULDN'T USE IT! Lead by example people!!!
Get Elizabitch's ignorant ass off the view!!!
I agree with Whoopie that blacks and whites live in different worlds but I also agree with Elizabeth that if we are ever going to change that then everyone needs to stop using that word offensive and degrading word. It need to be removed from our music and our culture.
Go Obama!
There is no logic behind what Whoppi and Sherri were saying about it being okay for them to use the N word and not white people. The bottom line is that if they want to word to stop being used by white people then they need to stop using the word themselves. And please get rid of Sherri. She is so stupid… and Barbara comes across as a mean crancky old woman.
Why do white people want to say the word? I totally agree with Elizabeth on this…nobody should say the word. But it always makes me cringe when I hear/see white people jumping at the bit to say it. Calm down…
Woopie Goldberg and the other black woman are completely wrong. This is a word that should not be used what so ever. It is racist no matter how you look at it. They say it isn't when they use it amongst themselves but thats just ignorant. Elizabeth says we live in a world together and Woopie says not, This is 2008 and there is a black man running for president. Get over it!!!!!! We are all equal. Do you see every Jew running around saying they were persecuted and 6 million of them were killed. Move on. It is funny that black comedians continually make fun of white people calling them crackers and what not, but if a white comic did the same all hell would brake loose and he would be called a racist. There is BET could you imagine there being WET, now that would be racist. We are all equal, terms like N.. should not be used. Welcome to 2008.
Re: Cindy – I mean "If I can't say a word to your face, I SHOULDN'T be saying it behind your back."
every single solitary race and culture is racist. i dont give a fuck who you are. and some of the people that get the brunt of racism from almost every other race is WHITE PEOPLE. we have more rules and restrictions on how we are allowed to behave and what we're allowed to say and we are supposed to feel guilty even about how we think while other races can go around spouting off about white people all they fucking please!! kiss my big white fuckin ass!
Elizabeth is upset bcz she wants to use the word and is trying to argue a case for it. Bottom line b;acks can use it, other's use at your own risk…word
Elizabeth as anooying as she is…IS RIGHT ON THE MONEY! No one should use that word not as funny or nasty. It has a horrible meaning PERIOD! Anyone who uses it is stupid and ignorant. ELIZABETH IS RIGHT!!!!!!!!!!
Sherri and Whoopi are IGNORANT BLACKS. GET OUTTA HERE WITH THAT CRAP!
Elisabitch 2012!!!!
Elisabitch 2012!!!!
Elisabitch 2012!!!!
Elisabitch 2012!!!!
Elisabitch 2012!!!!
Elisabitch 2012!!!!
I am spanish and mexican. I cringe everytime I hear the words spic, wetback or beaner. It doesn't matter in what context or which color that mouth is….to me it's derogatory. I can understand Whoopi saying they are taking a demeaning word and taking the power away from the original users. But it's still derogatory. BUT it's their perrogative to use it and change it. It's like calling a girl Bitch. Some girlfriends call eachother that, but if it was a hetero male calling that same girl a bitch the sentiment and feeling changes, whether it's mean to be malicious or not….it just does.
That Elizabeth person sounds likes shes coked up to her eyeballs - i have never heard anyone talk that fast!
Re: Holstein9 – Fuck off
whoopi just said the stupidest thing i have ever heard. she said her mother couldnt vote but technically i assume that was because she was a women and not because she was black. blacks got the right to vote first and so then technically that hardship shit she was preaching was exactly that..shit.
Re: Cindy – I really meant: I agree with Elizabeth 100%! The N word should not be used, in public or private. If I can't say a word to your face, I SHOULDN'T be saying it behind your back.
Elizabeth Hasselbeck should be considered a hero. She ran that windbag Rosie off the air, and is on a panel with 4 liberal women that gang up on her at any opportunity. I enjoy watching someone of her intelligence amongst that group of mental lightweights.
Stay strong Elizabeth!!
It's an ugly word and there are much better "terms of endearment" that you can use. And if you are a person of color, you won't have such a hard time in this country if you act and speak respectably and in a manner that befits a lady or gentleman. This is coming from a Mexican-American, btw.
Although she is absolutely annoying, I completely agree with her. Why is it okay for some people to use it and not others? It makes no sense at all.
I'm white, I don't like Elizabeth, but I have to agree with her. Our society tries so hard to eliminate racism, yet those affected continue to promote it. I understand that our society did some shitty things but wtf?
And that fact that white people don't have to deal with racism is BS. My mom, who is white but has an accent is always treated like shit simply because she can't speak english perfectly.
Elisabeth (there's no 'z' morons) had a VALID point!!! It is NOT alright for some to call a name and not others. I understand Whoopie's point that they had to take the name back. I get it. But if it's a derogitory name, it's a derogitory name. I don't care if an ignorant white person uses it or Jessie Jackson, it's still derogitory and shouldn't be used.
RONNI - you are wrong. I have lived and worked where I was the minority. I wasn't welcomed with open arms. I experienced racism. I did nothing to be treated this way. I am white. Don't say that whites won't ever experience racism. Most of the time we only here about it from and non-white person's view. But you can't say- " Simply by being white means that you will NEVER EXPERIENCE IT!!" That's being ignorant.
Teach your children to respect all people!!!! My kids play with kids on both sides of our house from different ethnic backgrounds. THEY KNOW NO DIFFERENT WAY TO LIVE! TEACH THAT!
God I wish that stupid Elizabeth would shut her freaking trap.
Whoopi is mistakenly perpetrating an anochronism. She can certainly state her mother's experience regarding voting, but it was never Whoopi's experience, but with the story once removed. I usually always agree with Whoopi as am from her generation, but I have to now agree with Elizabeth here; as I've said before, I think that it's JUST as bad, if not worse, when a black person says it. It shows a total lack of respect for your OWN, no matter how you 'dress it up.' No more excuses; it sends a mixed message. How does Elizabeth stop her kids from saying it when they hear their little black friends saying it? It's a double standard. It's like women trying to overcome housebound oppression at the onset of women's liberation but saying what's yours is mine, and what's mine is mine regarding his and her's paycheques. It just isn't possible to have it both ways. If the black culture wants to maintain the use of the word 'ni@@ga', then they will have to overcome outrage if another individual within their culture parrots its use.
Que PERDIDA DE TIEMPO Waste of my god damn time. White Bitches and Black Bitches and LATINA Bitches como yo misma! We are never gonna get along or understand eachother Asian bitches thrown in there too! Woot woot ! But come on we love eachother Una Cervecita a glass of wine a shot or two and We're all good being diferente. Send me all the Papis White black asian latino(whatever the hell you are PEREZ!) Echate pa 'qa
No one should use the word.. That is how we move forward.
NO ONE SHOULD USE THE N WORD. WHOOPI + SHERRI = RACIST PIGS
NO ONE SHOULD USE THE N WORD. WHOOPI + SHERRI = RACIST PIGS
NO ONE SHOULD USE THE N WORD. WHOOPI + SHERRI = RACIST PIGS
NO ONE SHOULD USE THE N WORD. WHOOPI + SHERRI = RACIST PIGS
NO ONE SHOULD USE THE N WORD. WHOOPI + SHERRI = RACIST PIGS
NO ONE SHOULD USE THE N WORD. WHOOPI + SHERRI = RACIST PIGS
NO ONE SHOULD USE THE N WORD. WHOOPI + SHERRI = RACIST PIGS
NO ONE SHOULD USE THE N WORD. WHOOPI + SHERRI = RACIST PIGS
Re: cryme – This is so true!!!!Whoopi is a jerk…How could she say that she wants a balanced society adn yet "They" can say things that others can't? There is clearly no balance there. THe "Blacks" want to stay separate and apart from the rest of society because otherwise they would have to actually step up and take reponsibility for themselves & the lives of their 23 children. If "Black" people still feel inferior from the rest of society then they really need to take a step back and review their lives and find out what it is that made themselves inferior…now…in this day and age. Enough timae has passed that they can't use "slavery" as their excuse anymore. There are millions of successful "Black" people in this world that are not running around calling each other "Nigga" and screaming about life in the ghetto…Make something of yourself and stop blaming "whitey".
The only reason racism continues today is because SO MANY African-Americans are so godamned racist and won't let go of the past. Move the fuck on! Slavery was abolished years ago and MOST Caucasions don't give a fuck what color your skin is. Caucasions aren't responsible for what their ignorant fucking ancestors did, so if you actually want equality then get the fuck over it instead of holding on to it to feel superior and entitled to continually put down Caucasions! It's fucking enough!!!
EH is so obnoxious. Who does she think she is, acting as if this is HER issue? She needs to shut her mouth and leave the show. she is unstable and selfish
I hate the way Elizabitch tries to plow over everyone else's opinions by talking so fast and constantly cutting everyone off. It's like she tries to shut people down with her "brilliant" points, but simply isn't brilliant enough to do it. I hated her for that exchange with Rosie that made Rosie leave the show and I hated listening to her blather on about a point that is perfectly easy to understand.
Elizabeth, this is the way it works… you know how you can pick on your family and complain about them all you want, but when someone else does it, it means war? That's the way black people feel about the N word. Now isn't that easy to understand?
OMG! I actually agree with Elizabeth!!!
Elizabeth doesn't really care what "they" are called as long as "they" clean her house, care for her children, drive her to work, work in her yard and …………LIVE IN ANOTHER FUCKING PART OF TOWN, FAR….FAR….AWAY!
She's a DUMB POLLACK!!! That explains everything……
Everytime "reverse racism" is used, it's just perpetuating racism. "we don't live in the same world" "it's harder for us" (black people) If it is harder, (which I don't think it is), it's cuz they are making it that way. They need to change their way of thinking. I had a black guy tell me that all white people should pay him money for what happened hundreds of yrs. ago with slavery. WTF? Are you kidding me? I just looked at him and laughed. And then told him, I was first generation American… My family didn't even come to this country until the 1970's. And I told him that I think Egyptians should pay us Greeks for slavery that was centuries ago. SAME THING!!! Everyone, everywhere has been "wronged" at some point. But the only way to progress as a society is to move on. Yes it happened, yes it sucked, but it was so long ago.
elizabeth is 100% correct on this one.
Elizabeth sweetie…you have some good points…BUT DON'T CRY ON YOUR TV SHOW. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
I honestly agree with Elizabeth, as much as I may not with her on other things…
As long as people keep using that word, I think people will continue to look at them that way. Sorry.
Re: Anony – How is she rude and a bigot? you are probably Gay and black and you going to hell.haha
Re: Anony – How is she rude and a bigot? you are probably Gay and black and you going to hell.haha
Soooo, if little black kids get to call each other N1GGER in the school yard, and the little WHITE kids hearit, their suposed to know it's a taboo word?
Give me a BREAK. Either we all say N1GGER or no one does.
I NEVER agreed with Elisabitch… until today. I agree with all of you who think it's bull shit that the minorities in this country get special treatment. If there is a word that is offensive to someone then NO ONE (no matter what color) should be able to use it. Why should certain people have special rights? I don't consider myself racist… if someone is successful I'll give them due credit, black or white. I think that anyone who is a leech on society should be kicked out of the US no matter what color they are.
Oh Gawd the day has come were I must agree with Elizabeth. Def a first but KNOWONE should use that word.
This bitch totally gets on my last nerves. If people walked around calling whites dog smelling, insect traps. whites would of had this problem fixed along time ago, but because it's not about them they fells it's ok to insult on daily people of color…………Why is she still on that show.. Is the better question
Re: KT – When Whoopi pointed out that we live in "separate worlds" and that her own grandmother couldn't vote, I thought to myself, my grandmother couldn't vote in this country either and she was white. That was not the best example Whoopi could have used as women have their fair share of gender discrimination to deal with regardless of ethncity. I'm not overly fond of Elisabeth, but I found myself agreeing with her on this one. My in-laws are black and have instilled in my nieces and nephews that the "N" word is NOT acceptable. A TERM OF ENDEARMENT? Does Sheri whisper it in her son's ear before he goes to sleep — I highly doubt it!
I couldn't agree with Elizabeth more. It's such a hypocritical thing. The word shouldn't be used at all because it is derogitory. Blacks are putting themselves down by using it. I would never use it and do not appreciate when it is used and I don't care if its from a white or black person. Lets move on, this was a LONG time ago and we need to move past it and heal. Holding on to the negativity is very repressing and creates bad karma. can't everyone just get along? Who cares what color or religion, it's all so shallow.
i agree with elizabeth 100%
they way she expressed it was wonderful
jesse jackson is more racist than a lot of white people in this country. he's a hypocrite, and i expect nothing less of him. whoopi too - you are a rich celebrity and can get whatever you want. i doubt your life is hard.
one other thing - my grandmom, who is white and the same age as whoopi's mother, couldn't vote either. WOMEN in general didn't get to vote until AFTER black men, so that's a poor argument on her side. get your facts straight, you already fucked that one up on a past episode.
I completly agree with Elizabeth on this one.
The black people need to stop their double standards.
Speaking as a Black person, for once I agree with Elizabeth.
Re: ally – Hey, I agree… but I also never have used those words before.
Re: media –
agreed. if so many are fucking offended by this damn word and then nobody should be allowed to say it. i find very ignorant and stupid for those of color to defend their use of it. yeah lets walk around calling each other the n word and then bitch when white people do….its called you are showing no respect for yourself by calling each other it. morons
Anachronism (def.) - a thing belonging to a period other than the one in which it exists.
I had to go to a meeting at this woman's house last month. There were 30 of us there. There were 3 white women (I am one), everyone else was black. The women ranged in age from about 25 to 55. The neighborhood was inner city, working class. During the course of the evening I was made aware of the chink Korean shop owners that lived in their neighborhood who overpriced their food and two women actually said I was in the country first who do they think they are coming into my neighborhood. More enlightening conversation continued with the talk of the Africans and how bad they smelled. They all were in agreement of their hatred for the Mexicans. They wanted them gone and their language was very colorful. They talked of their men and how most were worthless. I forgot the also said some very racists remarks about the Indians. I listened and kept my mouth shut. I came home and told my husband and he laughed at me for being so naïve. He said you didn't know that black people are the biggest racists ever. I really didn't. I grew up in a big city but I guess I had never been in a situation where others felt free to speak to me as they do when with their peers. So maybe the conversation The View women had should have just refer to what blacks call each other in private but what they call everyone else.
What EH needed to do was listen and she might have learned something. She just kept interrupting as though letting somebody get all their thoughts out would threaten her chances of winning an argument. She's like a child that sticks her fingers in her ears and sings so she can't hear what is being said to her.
As truly stupid as she is, she represents (along with Sheri) the stupid population, which has become more vocal with a president that represents them and makes them feel good about being stupid.
They are the same people that don't feel stupid saying Obama is a Muslim or actually think Republicans have their best financial interests at heart. They are the same stupid people who don't believe in the separation of church and state, who call themselves Christian when they actually are more religiously attached to racism and homophobia and think it's their god given right to drive an SUV.
Stupid, stupid, stupid Jerry Springer MFers who scream instead of listen.
The black people can not have it both ways, period. And for them to say that is something that they can use amongst themselves is just the same as saying the equally awful "C" word should be used among just women—-but a man saying it is awful. I don't use either word, have teenage children that swear but disprectful name calling has never been tolerated for one second in my home.
I don't watch the view, except when these types of "heated" arguments take place and they are broadcast all over the net. I do want to say that Elizabeth seemed to be quite reasonble in her comments when it came to the Rosie fight and in this segment. The fact of the matter is this: Practice what you preach! It is not about empowerment or endearment; if you do not want people to use a certain term, dont USE IT! I am of Mexican decent and I dont go around calling fellow Mexicans "brazers", "wetbacks", or "beaners"; if I know it offends, I DONT USE IT!!!
A) I absolutely LOVE Whoopi, she was so right and so poised… her explanation was so eloquently made. B) That Elizabeth chick is hella racist and she tries to mask it by giving the "can't we all just get along" excuse that many white people use so they can stay blissfully ignorant. oh and C) Barbara Walters was so great in this, I totally laughed out loud
Elisabeth Hasselbeck needs to shut up and stop crying. i understand what she is trying to say, but she comes off as so arrogant. as sad as it is the world is not all sunshine and butterflies. there are social inequalities and double standards everywhere you go. she lives a privileged life and she will never understand what it's like to be a person of color in america. has anyone thought that maybe the use of this word in black culture is an attempt to reclaim a word that was once to negative and making it a term of power?
Sorry but there shouldn't be a double standard for words that are for hate. The N word should not be allowed to be used for ANY race. Just like the word white trash, gringo, redskin, injun. Every time we turn around there is a problem with black Americans and how to use a word. Just get over it and stop being a hypocrites
No wonder things won't change when African Americans won't let og of the past. They want an equal playing field however they are constantly identifying issues that keep them seperated.
The truth is that is Whoppi and Sherri's views and they do not speak for all black people in the US. I am white and have many well educated black friends who DO NOT use that word and find it offensive from blacks as well as whites. Period. All they are doing is issuing a double standard. They are part of the problem and not part of the solution.
The best thing that can happen to this country as far as racism goes is having a black president. I really hope it happens. Hope Obama helps fix all the 29,965etc other problems that we have in this country too.
On topic: For once I agree with Elizabeth. There shouldn't be double standards with a word. Although as a white person, I am fsomewhat ascinated with black culture; I love hip hop, I dig 'their' style and how 'they' talk. But I'm not a fan of their use of 'nigga'. I liked how it was hardly used at the Glow in the dark concert.
I normally think Elizabeth is a fool. But this time she was right
It seems to me that black people do not want to move forward and be one. Why is there always black events but if white people wanted to do that it would be discrimination? I don't understand why it's acceptable for black people to use the word but not white. I heard what Whoopi was saying but I don't buy it. I think it's a word that no one should use. I truly think the blacks want to be separate. They really don't want to be one.
She's such an ignorant white bitch. She needs to learn some new things before she tries to sound smart.
Re: wise1 –
Sounds to me like you are quite ignorant yourself! There is racism among ALL PEOPLE, stupid! But "blacks" have been the target of racism since they were brought here but the Europeans! Unless, you know what it feels like to be discriminated against because of the color of your skin then…shut the hell up!!!
Re: Ronni –
Wow, I am a Canadian who somewhat disagrees with your statement. You see where I live I was always brought up to never judge a person by their appearence or background, including the color of a persons' skin. I do not agree that once you are white that you will never experience racism as you have proven it, calling people "gringos" and classifying white skined people all to the group of WHITES who have all been stereotyped as RACISTS. There are many cases where white people are racist, but the same as other races.. but I am not, so I don't like being told I am racist because I do have caucasian skin. Growing up with friends from every which part of the world; korea, venezuela, Southern Americans, two best friends from the Bahamas islands and Dominican, Africa, Germany, Austria.. but it doesnt matter because we except each other like we are from the same family. You probably think I am naive but I do know a lot about what completely wrong things happened in the past which make me sick to my stomach and very ashamed of many of the pioneer caucasian people of the Western World. We need to realize that in order to move on to a more equal North America, we have to accept everyone as equals and also may have to stop blaming people for actions many years ago that they have had nothing to do with but are being blamed for because of the colour of their skin.
Maybe if blacks and latinos didn't make it so obvious that they want to continue to live in different worlds we wouldn't have stuff like this to fight about. I'm a teacher and I don't know how many times kids have told me "you don't like me cuz I'm black" or "you didn't help me because I'm Mexican and I need it more than Susie Blondehair." I don't see race or ethnicity, I see students in school ready and willing to learn and if you want to make up some shit in your head to justify why I'm doing something else besides paying attention to you, then that's fine. I treat everyone the same. If Susie is failing reading, yeah I'm going to help her. If you're Mexican and you're magically not failing reading, it means you're SMART. oh! Imagine that, a smart Mexican not failing English?! Wow! That must make you a hero because you've risen above the stereotypes you've created for YOURSELF. No one called you stupid, no one said you couldn't pass, no one said that you couldn't do it but YOU because you THINK that's what we think.
If black people get so offended when white people use the "N" word then why should they be able to use it so lightly? White people experience rasism just likw everybody else. Black people have so much built up resentment towards white people it's just disgusting.
Re: Ronni –
It is true that white people may never feel what it is like for "brown" people (Pardon if that is incorrect) in the US, because no one should feel that way. I cannot apologize for people who are rascist that are my skin colour, but can only say that it is very disappointing and wrong..also that I am sorry people in the world are being pput down by "social inequality" which should not exist, but will until we agree to move on and except everyone for who they are not what they come from or look like. AS far as The View goes, I believe that word is never ever okay, Elizabeth is just trying to find answers so she can better understand how to act appropriately and teach her daughter the same. Very Understandable. I do not hide from the fact racism is very evident in our society, but disagree with it entirely.
Wow .. Ive never thought i would have say this, but im on Elizabeth Side. Why does black pple have to make this issue so hard by always recalling the past, when the answear is simply to look at the future? I guess that there is not such a thing as forgive and forget.

Nia45- Check your history friend. The Voting Rights Act was introduced and passed in 1965…might want to brush up on your civil rights history before you spout out incorrect information. Just sayin…
Somebody, PLEASE put a fucking bullet in her winey ass!!!!!!!
and whatever happened to freedom of speech in america?! why is it that black people believe they are allowed to say such a vile word because their ancestors suffered, yet they want to block any other ethnicity from using it? when your ancestors suffered to become equal in this country or to integrate into this country at all, that included this country's first ammendment right to freedom of speech. I don't believe that whites should be "allowed" to use this word - I don't think it should be used PERIOD, but the fact of the matter is that we live in a country where everything is taken for granted, and if blacks feel that they should be allowed the freedom of speech to use this word as a "term of enderment" or for any other purpose, who are they to disallow any other AMERICAN CITIZEN's right to freedom of speech.
It is SUCH a double edge sword, and for any black person to sit back and say that a white person will "never know what it is like to be brown in this country" as Ronni stated in post 11…is merely a way to avoid the issues and turn a blind eye to the fact that, YES, reverse racism IS an issue. I am a white female that didn't come from money, I was not privilaged by any means, and I had to work hard and continue to work hard just to struggle everyday. How is it NOT reverse racism that I was denied NUMEROUS scholarships to college because the schools or the scholarship committees had a quota to fill based on minorities?? Don't sit there and tell me that you deserve to have things handed to you and that you are allowed your freedom of speech and try to "punish" white people and any other ethnicity for that matter because you had ancestors that suffered.
It is such a controversial word-as a white woman I'll never understand its origin from the perspective of a black person so I understand Elizabeth's frustration- as much as I can't stand her politics. White people hate this discussion because we know its an ugly, hate-filled word and yet, it seems black people throw it around like almost a term of endearment. Its just one more thing that separates the races and that's why I hate it. Jesse Jackson should be ashamed. What a lousy example he is setting for people who look up to him as a black leader.
