Anyone with an once of education would know better than to use the N-Word! Obviously, those that think it's okay to use are clearly ignorant and lack the education to come up with better words to show "endearment"! WAKE THE HELL UP PEOPLE!

I have to agree with Elisabeth on this one. If it's such a demeaning term, then it shouldn't be used by ANYBODY. Period. Jesse Jackson seems to be coming off a just a little hypocritical here.
Elizabeth clearly doesn't understand white priveledge is still alive and well in America. She needs to have some serious training on the subject of racism and being black/brown in the US. If Elizabeth understood these subjects and all that it entails, she would never have said that she and Whoopi live in the same world. She really doesn't know what she is talking about. I am white and I think she sounds ignorant. If you have been through race training, you would know that racism is still alive all over the US.

The "N" word is a negative and ignorant word to use no matter if you are white, black, or any other ethnic background. If it's OK for them to use the word in their own homes AND out in the public, and they enjoy using the word, we should all be able to use the word, and not have two worry about getting killed or being labeled racist.

I agree with Elizabeth on this one… it seems like a total double standard that it's okay for black people to use the word, but they get mad when a white person uses it. Black people using it amongst eachother just makes white people think it's okay for them to use it. It's just like when girls call eachother sluts and whores, guys then think they can call girls those same names.

First of all…no such thing as reverse racism. secondly….try not to say things that will offend people. I'm Spanish and American Indian, raised by a black family in west harlem. It's not a good word. Just like "fag" isn't a good word, whether you're a straight person using it out of hate or a gay person using it casually. Demanding that some people stop using it altogether and letting it slide with others is hypocritical, and it's even sometimes racist, if you say "well it's abhorrent that a white person should use this word but even though it carries centuries of hurt and degradation, it's cool if you use it to greet another brother". Let them use whatever they want to use. I personally don't like the word but Sherry and Whoopi are right, it's the context in which it's stated and black people are allowed. I don’t typically agree with Elisabeth, but today she was right. I hate that they all ganged up on her. They always talk down to her. She is on that show to give her “view,” but they won’t let her. Whoopi and Sherri continually separate themselves from everyone else and yet play the race card ALL the time. Blacks can use the N word, but whites can't? But blacks want people to stop using the “N” word because it's racist, but they continue to use it? Whoopi always talks about how she wants the "two" worlds that we live in to be equal - but as long as it's okay for black people to use the “N” word and white people not to - then that equality will NEVER be reached. Whoopi and Sherri need to stop blaming white people for their problems. Elisabeth didn’t do anything to them. Can’t they all just move on? Whoopi and Sherri need to shut their fat mouths. They’re just as racist as they claim others to be. They don’t speak for everyone! I used to love Whoopi and Sherri, but they have totally lost my respect.
i 100% agree with elizabitch! if we are to move forward from racism then we need to abolish the use of all racist terms no matter who's using them and in what terms. if people want equality then lets make things equal including restrictions on language.

Elizabeth has a valid point…she's speaking for a lot of people who have the same questions as her and I am glad she stood up for herself and didn't back down cause a lot of people would've. she did that on national television and i must say that i am with her all the way.

I can identify with Woopie's point. A fat person can call her friend "fat ass" as a term of endeament, but if a skinny chick calls her that, the shit will hit the fan.

Woopie, if a black high school student is saying the n-word in the hall, should the teacher ask her to stop of let it go? And, would the answer be different if the teacher were white or black?
Elisabeth, please try to remember that people are losing their homes and loved ones … sons, daughters and parents, in this war. Are these deaths worth your feeling of security? Do you think blowing up another country is a Christian thing to do? Believe me, it'sa lot worse than using the n word.

THANK YOU! I'm white, not that it matters, because everyone's blood is red isn't it? But I applaud YOU for making this point. I like Whoopi and Elizabeth, but on this one and I think the majority would agree, Elizabeth was right. I think it was Oprah a while back who said it best, (I'm paraphrasing of course) "Nobody owns a word…especially that word…and the sooner we stop using it in any context, the better off we'll be."
