For the first time ever, I actually agree with the bitch. This is complete reverse racism. They can claim ignorance all they want, but I don't sit around calling my family derogatory names as a "term of endearment." That makes no sense. Why does whoopi have to be so damned condescending. Elizabethis not a child. Obviously the use of the word in our society today upsets her. No white people can not possible truly understand what it means to be brown or black but when our children hear the N word thrown about in the rap world and within the black community while our parents tell us it is wrong to use such language how are they to understand WHY it is wrong. We are teaching our children the best way we can to not judge people by the color of their skin and at the same time those we aim to understand undermine our teachings. My own personal opinion is that no one should be using the "N" word. I feel Elizabeth was trying to get across the right view on the issue, but of course it didn't come out right. I agree with Elizabeth. Kids today do not see black and white. If they were to hear a black friend using the N word in a good way to another black friend, they might use the word, too. I have to agree with KT. In America, race is conceived of in black and white terms. But there are other minorites who have been enslaved and rendered invisible. I think the discussion needs to move out of this binary, which Whoppi and Sherry want to keep reproducing, and finally focus on other "invisible" groups left out of the race discussion: Asian-, Latin-, Cuban-, Mexican- and Native-, Americans.

I am a black woman and I completely agree with Elizabeth. Since I was in middle school and I heard my peers using it, I hated the sound of the word.

Dr. Kings change in America and world will forever remain our most powerful times in history. The civil rights movement promised equality and change for all people, predominantly black, as they were the ones being discriminated against most of all. It was AMAZING. If they get to use it so do I…..why teach my children that the word is ugly when they are going to hear it anyway and think it is ok. The word is ugly..period. No one can claim it and why would you want to. Even if the word has been taken over by the other race, its still ugly and wrong. Young children today or tomorrow will hear it and repeat it thinking it is right, yet everyone will know how and where it originated. You cant teach children that it is ok for one race to use it and not the other…in private or in public! That's like hearing older white people use the word around their grand children and as a mom trying to teach them that it is NOT ok under any circumstances to use that word. For all the years that people before us fought to get rid of that word, it is completely for naught once you start teaching that it is ok to use it…..whatevers…why cant we all just get a long.
