    Re: So wr
That is very true, except it is the unfortunate truth. Media and society (For example…TV!) have influenced millions of girls. For example, "More than ten percent of adolescent girls and three percent of boys binge eat or purge at least once a week". Also "It is reported that 40% of newly identified cases of anorexia are in girls 15-19 years old." I'm NOT saying that THIS example is because of gossip girl, but in general if the media say something cool (example: being skinny!) obviously young girls do not have enough self control and feel they need to be like the people in the media. This relates to gossip girl because it is the same idea- girls are going to follow what they see. Don't believe me? Look it up. 40 – 60% of high school girls diet.

A lot of people on here are saying that it's an individuals choice to be promiscuous at a young age, and that a stupid TV show has nothing to do with somebodies behavior. I think we're over looking the fact that TV is the biggest generator of cultural understanding and a sense of normalcy that most media-minded kids get. So, long, complicated story short: TV might not directly make kids go out and bone, but it helps build a culture where this becomes a perceived normalcy of tween life.
As for letting my own kid watch it, I like to think that I'll be raising kids who are self-aware enough not to want to watch this bullshit.

GET OVER YOUR SELF WITH THAT "MIND BLOWINGLY INAPPROPRIATE BULLSHIT" KIDS ARE GONNA HAVE SEX REGARDLESS OF WHAT THEY SEE ON TV OR NOT.
    GAWD. !!!

i would you would just have to explain to them shit
other than that im pretty sure all tweens know about sex and are talkin about it so why not just talk about it with them other than just refusing to let them watch it

  12. dawn says – reply to this

    112

no way. it might be a great show for young adults - but my teenager wouldn't watch it that's for sure.

  15. K tra says – reply to this

    115

Re: kim – It certainly can be argued that someone that young having unprotected sex isn't competent enough to give informed consent. Someone that age having unprotected sex, clearly, isn't thinking rationally about the consequences.

  20. teres says – reply to this

    120

HAHAHA! Like she is really making that face while screwing some 16 year old.
The faces of teenage girls look more like "WTF ARE YOU DOING???!!"

  21. Mclov says – reply to this

    121

I LOVE this show, ok a little racy but you don't have to watch it…I can't wait for it to come out August 19th!!!!!!

  22. K tra says – reply to this

    122

Re: umm.. – A lot people out there are weak-minded, especially children and tweenager's. It's a little naive to believe that TV and pop culture has no influence on children, ( anyone with a basic understanding of marketing can see that, It's aimed at our children). Yes it's our responsibility to make sure that our children are critical thinkers but with how the media and peer pressure are today, it's very hard work!

  23. s says – reply to this

    123

This show is good!! If it's a bad example then don't let your kids watch it. They'll just get corrupted some by some other show.

  24. deels says – reply to this

  32. Popi says – reply to this

    132

    Hell Yeah! I'll be watching!

  33. Jess says – reply to this

    133

I'm a 17-year-old girl and I personally am obsessed with the show. However, I don't think it's appropriate for the 'tween' demographic. I won't say that it promotes sexual promiscuity or drug use, because I don't think it does. But, Gossip Girl is a dream world, a television show. The things that happen on that show are only meant to happen on television. But, there are some viewers who aren't mature enough to understand and are going to try it out in real life anyway. If I was a parent, I would let a fourteen-year-old watch it, but under that age, I wouldn't.

  34. Isabe says – reply to this

    134

    i would let them
its not like my futur kids wont know about inapropriate things no matter what i do and + its a good show

    136

we live in a world where any teenage boy can download a shit load of free porn from the interwubs, but a teen girl can't watch some crappy show of kids making out. what's the big deal?

  37. Erin says – reply to this

    137

Re: FRANN – like everyone else is saying, if you taught your child morals, then it wouldn't matter what they see on TV. it's for entertainment purposes. No show should act as a guidebook to live your life. And on Gossip Girl especially, there is always a consequence for someone's stupid and irresponsible actions. It's actually a great way to show teens how things can backfire on them.

the show isnt as bas as people make it out to be.
maybe if parents actually stick to the whole season and watch every episode, then maybe theyll get a bright lightbulb.

Re: mady – please. try some modesty for a change. and p.s. having sex doesn't make you a slut or a skank. I'm only about 6 years older than you, but sex in a committed relationship with my fiancée doesn't make me a slut. but nice try.

    Gossip Girl sucks !!!!!!

UKs Skins ist so much better

Gossip Girl is a lame excuse for SKINS!!!!

  51. Dusti says – reply to this

    151

This show is NOT marketed towards tweens… do they watch it, sure, but that is the parents responsibility as to whether or not to allow their child to watch it. The CW's Demographic is women 18-34. The ads are Marketed towards that demographic

  52. Céli says – reply to this

    152

Ok, I dont get it, the show is awesome. It's not about age thing or anything or being correct, I was watching Sex and the City when I was 15 and Ally Mc Beal when I was even younger, but I absolutely didn't turn a whore, you can let you're child watch the show or she/he will see it in your back what matters is the time you take to educate your children to those subjects.

As for teenagers having sex, you cannot avoid it, you have to teach them safe sax first of all, thanks to that she won't turn pregnant and won't have a STD. Anyway if you're daughter wants to have sex she will it doesn't matter where and how, sex is everywhere the only way to eventually avoid it is to talk with her.

  53. CJ says – reply to this

    153

I don't think my tween needs any more clutter in her head. I'm tired of trash like this. I wish for our culture to deepen just a tad.

  54. 16yro says – reply to this

    154

Honestly, girls between 11-18 are already extremely sexual. A silly ad is not going to make any difference. I know tons of girls who have been giving blowjobs and having sex since they were in 6th and 7th grade. This is a general thing through out the nation, girls have just sexually matured extremely fast.

  55. Mandy says – reply to this

    155

Let's put it this way….I'm 24 years old and I love this show.
I went to collegein Manhattan, not HS - and I can relate to some of the shit these kids do.

  60. 160

I feel sorry for anyone who watches this show. It has sucked from the moment it hit the air waves. This show doesn't push boundaries just makes me wanna beat up old people. And I wouldn't let my non-existant children watch this show either. Because of the reason I stated above.

These ads are BRILLIANT!! I don’t think they’re tired at all—it’s a smack right back in the face of groups like the Parents Television Council… I’m sick of all these “watchdog” type groups out there who want to try and “regulate” what people watch on television. It’s simple—if people don’t like the content of any show, they don’t have to watch it. It's ENTERTAINMENT folks… You have to had it to the marketing folks at the CW… BRILLIANT!!!!

  66. Zee says – reply to this

    166

Re: kc – To "kc": considering your post, it would be best if you went back to beating off to pantie porn on YouTube.

Re: cmone – TV is supposed to be about entertainment & fantasy in a world that isn't always the most desirable place to spend your reality. Why is something like this "bullshit" and its fans not "self-aware" because it shows a fanciful life wildly different from the reality of most? If anyone wants to watch a television show about a bunch of self-aware sophisticates such as you yourself obviously are, why don't you cash in and star in your own snoozer reality show that allows no one to escape from the drabness of real daily life?

    It's AMAZING.
The show has a Great story line and plot.
    The PTC can Suck it!

  86. 186

I'm 16, and I watch this show. The characters are only meant to be a year older than me, and they don't influence me in any way, except that I know what I will be wearing this winter.
Gossip Girl doesn't promote underage sex, but these posters are great teasers for fans of the show…Serena and Nate?!?!
Cos I live in the Uk I will have to wait until March 2009 for series 2 to show over here…we haven't finished series 1 yet, but already I can't wait.

  87. 187

i wouldn't let myself watch this show, let alone my kids - bad actors, stupid scripts, it's worthless shit.

  88. dk says – reply to this

    188

    (PART I)
See, this is how it works:
I, as a parent, try to teach my kids that sex is for 2 committed people and, by committed, I mean the ultimate commitment; marriage.
The problem, is that images on TV, featuring young, beautiful people, are super seductive and warp peoples minds and spirits in to acting on them.
Don't believe me? Think it only works on children?
    Think again!
Why don't you ask advertisers of beer, sports cars, grooming products, etc., why they always feature gorgeous, half-naked women in their ads? It's the implied promise that if you use this product, your life will be glamorous and full of sex. And remember: Sex is bigger on young peoples minds, than ours…usually
These TV shows depict beautiful bodies writhing around, but don't show the aftermath: unwanted pregnancies, abortion, diseases and, worst of all but not as detectable, the degrading of your body and someone else's, and what God created as something beautiful and sacred between 2 people.

  89. dk says – reply to this

    189

    (PART II)
These depictions are as responsible as showing someone jumping off a cliff without a parachute, having a beautiful time falling through the beautiful canyon on a beautiful day, with a nice Greenday song in the background, and then fading out right before he hits the ground and his bones crush and his organs go flying out of his mouth.
The gloves are off, with desperate ads like this. They might as well say, "Hey, Kids!" We're going to show you images your parents DON"T want you to see. Come on: You KNOW you want to be your own person, and do the opposite of whatever they say?
For those of you who disagree with what I'm saying, let me ask you this:
What would you want to do to me if, every night, I went to your kids window and whispered to them how great drugs are. I would tell them that the very reason they should try them, is because you don't want them to. Then, I'll show pictures of athletes, musicians, beautiful people, what ever tempts them, and tell them that drugs will open all of this up to them.
The Bible say that it's bad to sin, but woe to the tempter.
So, to answer your question, theses ads are a vile, direct attack on young people, for the sake of ratings and money.
These network executives are no better than drug dealers and hit men!
