Re: mady – Films and Tv shows aren't the reason that girls get pregnant early and anyone who blames the media is insane. If parents raised their children properly and were open about sex then it wouldn't be a problem. If anything these shows do their best to show that having sex has consequences. Kids are always gonna have sex, but being safe is another matter. You're basically saying that the only reason you're not pregnant is because you don't watch Gossip Girl or Juno. Which is dumb as fuck. You're not pregnant at fourteen cuz you're parents no doubt did a semi decent job and you've got half a brain. Regardless of what TV shows you watch.

Yes, I let my daughter watch it, and I watch it right along side her. Both my girls watch it, ages 16 and 12. The PTC can kiss my ass. I teach my daughters right and wrong and talk to them about sex. It's a good show and entertaining. We have all read the books too and those are much more sexual, drug use and underage drinking. These are good ways to expose my children to realise better behavior is expected from them. It's just a TV show people, lighten up!

If someone if stupid enough to get pregnant and they thought it was cool cuz it was on gossip girl , well if they hadnt watched gossip girl they still would have gotten the idea somewhere else ! Does no one remember how well Juno did ? And thats all about how a teenage girl gets pregnant , whereas gossip girl has a plot and is more about life in a private school.
I would never let my daughter watch that. It's shows like that, that make young girls think they should have sex.

Like I think the point of this all is.. girls IDOLIZE Blair and Serena. Like you would not believe, in my yearbook girls actually put WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO BE: Blair. or WHEN I GROW UP I WANT TO BE: Serena… these girls live and breathe gossip girl. they bitch, they do drugs (at 14) and they have sexual relations with guys. I admit that they may not be thinking clearly but you put a show out like this with no lesson or morals whatsoever, girls WILL watch it and want to emulate the behaviors exhibited on this show because it's "cool", and guys who watch this show expect that behavior out of girls, who will do what the guys want to please them. It's a vicious cycle and frankly i think that we need a television show that teens will want to watch but at the same time will teach some lessons. That's all.

i'm 20 and i watch gossip girl. i like the clothes, and i find it addicting though the storyline isn't exactly the best. i think the casting's great. i think this show, though, is NOT for teens, although it's in a high school setting. maybe for 18 and above, but not for, like, 14. that's just too young, any young person who'd say that's stupid will eventually realize what i'm saying when they get older.

Would I let my 13 year old watch Gossip Girl?? Nope. Mainly because it doesn't portray the values we hope to instill in her. As parents we have such a short time to nurture self-worth and confidence into our children and then they are grown and get to make these choices for themselves. The tween years are especially precious as they make the transition from children into young adults…why add more adult issues to their mostly innocent minds?
Will my daughter ever watch shows like Gossip Girl….probably, but with maturity she will be better able to see these types of shows for what they are…entertainment.

But as grown-ups we have the benefit of 20/20 hindsight….will watching GG turn most kids that watch it into sex-craving maniacs? Of course not!! Will my daughter suffer by _not_ watching GG?? Nope. No, but not because it's racy or controversial - because I've seen it several times and it's just not that good.
it just depends on the maturity of the person watching the show. i'm 17 and i love this show and the books. but i'm definitely smart enough to know not to follow in the footsteps of these characters. it's a guilty pleasure, it's not a guidebook for my life.
I'd never let my tween watch this. They don't have the capacity to separate tv from reality or to fully understand the subject matter. I might consider letting a 16 yr and older watch though.

I agree this show doesn't make kids want to do things. It's the dumb parents. The ones who ALWAYS don't let their kids have fun and hide alcohol and sex from them are the ones who turn out bad. I tasted alcohol(like a couple of sips) for the first time at like 10 or 12 and I haven't tried it since. I don't even like it. If you hide it children will be curious as to why you are hiding it. Duh it's simple. That's why all the whores are the little church girls who couldn't do shit when they were younger.

These are not tweens on this show. These are far older teens. The P.T.A. can get off their asses and turn the T.V. off if they don't want their tweens watching it. While they're at it, they can open their eyes. Most teens today are not singing in their church choir and cleaning erasers for the teacher voluntarily. They mirror all of the media that has been floating around out there for the last twenty or twenty five years or so. This show is slick, current and very well done for what it is, and it shows the consequences for the actions. It's not 'Full House.'
If I ever caught myself switching the tv on to watch this s*&$ I would ask my friend to shoot me right away coz I know I would have hit rock bottom point in my life!
And if I ever caught my kids(if and when I have them) watching this krap, they would be sent packing to the nearest boot camp in the city for 3 months.

Ok that pisses me off when people say, "I go to a school for the academically gifted". Just because you have book smarts, doesn't mean you have people smarts, which are much more important. Book smarts don't mean anything. Lately, a lot of people who go to Harvard and all those other schools don't do as well as people who go to regular schools because they never got to experience the real world. You're going to be one of those moms who doesn't let their kids watch TV or anything so when they go away they will go crazy.

My mom and dad kknow i watch it, and sometimes i even watch it with them.
That doesn't make them bad parents, and watching the show doesnt make me a bad kid. i know its fiction and i know whats right and wrong to do.
You cant blame a show for setting a bad example, its up the PARENTS to teach and educate their children.
There are a TOOON of worse things that kids are watching, much worse than a show like gossip girl that will pass on in history with no recognition only as a time consumer (which i dont have a problem with).
Letting our kids grow up in a place with discrimination, with a president that promotes WAR and suffering for overseas communities and oposes diversity is 1000 times WORSE than a measly show.
Its just a TV show…i dunno why so many americans make such a big deal about it.

parents need to understand that this is what children are exposed to in this century. whether you like it or not, your children are going to learn about sex, alcohol, or drugs. not letting your kid watch one show is not going to keep them hidden from it. WALK OUTSIDE, you will see people dressed rounchy. we learn this not only from tv shows, from school, friends, and family. your children aren't stupid, they know what they are doing. parents; you need to learn how to trust your child. part of the reason 90% of parents dont get along with their kids is because they dont take time to talk with their kids about the abuse that sex, alcohol, and drugs can do. they dont take time to know their child or what they are doing. trust me, if you dont let them do it at the house, the more they are going to go to friends houses and do it. Gossip Girls faces the reality of the world today, take time to watch it and become aware.

The show IS NOT inappropriate! It's rated 14 for a reason so those whose children who are under 14 who are watching shouldn't let them. I watch it & I love it! I'm over the age of 14 and my mom sees me watch it she doesn't mind cuz she knows I'm old enough…the show is awesome! and so are the actors. keep up the good work CW!!

i watch it myself and i have to say it is sooo butchered compared to the books. The books have way more detail and they are much more interesting.

Smart teens would learn what not to do from this show (most being from anywhere but the upper east side). The show contains so much drama…what smart/genuine teenager would honestly want a life like that and follow it.

what really tickles my feathers is that the advertising for the show is well…..plain out ridicoulous! "OMFG" those were the letters displayed across the screen as images of "highschool" students were rolling around in bed together having sex. I find it very funny that society will make a big stink about a photo shoot with miley cyrus where the girls shoulder was exposed, the complaints that she is only 15 and should not be shown as a somewhat sex symbol, but yet there are shows airing like gossip girl where basically teen sex is promoted but no one say boo?
it not ok to have this show on air. (not that they will care wha i have to say) but its the point. It's not real!!! well i was once that age and they were things my parents nvr let me watch but i still found a way 2 watch it…like online 4 example. so even tho it may make me cringe they r rexposed 2 that sort of TV they hv 2 learn eventually…discuss it with thier friends etc

All my friends watch it and none of us act like them or are pregnant.

the show is very good and is a guilty pleasure I'll admit. But bad choices made by teens everyday is not because of what is on the media. It's called "weak minds" and "low self esteem". Sure the media isn't really helping, but its up to the individual to say NO to bad choices. You can't just blame the media, I mean us teenagers see bad choices being made everyday at school. Bad parenting also influences bad choices made by teens. I'm a good kid. And I've watched every single gossip girl episode, but you don't see sex tapes of me online or me engaging in unprotected sex. If you have good morals, then it shouldn't matter what you see on tv or hear in music.
p.s if you don't like it, don't watch it. its a good show and has nominations, so get over it. its a good show.
I actually stopped watching the show after the first week because it didn't follow the books what-so-ever. Yes, I read the books, and yes, I know that if they did follow the books, there wouldn't have been a full season but still, why not expand on the ideas of the books? Not completely go off course with it. It's useless and the only show that I was a full die-hard fan of was The OC!

I watch this show…love it This is the shit I was doing in N.Y. in the 80's, I was far from the "elite" but my parents didn't watch me either.
I have 4 kids from 15 yrs. down to 4 yrs. My 2 oldest boys are not interested in the show. They do watch One Tree Hill which is borderline as well but we discuss it, as we discuss everything. If parents are doing their jobs it would not be in my opinion, so controversal. For parents that do watch if your tweens from 14 yrs & up are on not so short of a leash, really think about some of the shit they could be doing….hmmmm

If you don't like series such as GG, you should not look any more big at things because they find the same ingredients there as in a lot of series: young persons with an unrealistic life, cronyisms, of treason, some money and of sex.
