PEREZ–
Here is why– in a nut shell, fundamnetalist christians.
These are the same type of comic books they regularly distribute to the younger members of their congregation. Some of those children even pass out comics- just like this one- to strangers in order to solicit a conversation about God and becoming born again.
It is also a campaigning scheme marketted directly toward the fundamentalists, who are familiar with the christian comic book set up.
Somewhere along the lines, the urban and liberal portion of the country forgot that small town America still exsists between our two cultural poles, NY & LA and under Chicago somewhere.
When we forgot the fundamentalist church took over. Now, these puppet master pastors have complete control of their congregation. And, there are over 75 million in the US– enough to sway any election.
Scary, huh?

oklahoma has a ton of fucked up REPUBLICAN politicians…but our democrat governor, brad henry appointed an openly gay man named jim roth to fill out the term of a retired corporation commissioner and jim roth is running for election on his own terms right now…i think that is rather forward thinking of any politician regardless of where they live…but you are right…our republicans are extra special fucktards!

as an oklahoman and an avid perez reader who loves everyone no matter who they love..I would like to apologize for other people having opinions, whether they are retarded or not..i mean whats really right or wrong these days? However, I have plenty of friends who are gay, and we have an amazing gay community in Oklahoma City as well, those people are just cool enough to be happy and not worry about what all the old people think, they might even flaunt it to spite them..but whatever everyone has something fucked up about them, and this guy just happens to be really into his vice.

This situation with the comic book was reported by our main newspaper, The Tulsa World. When I saw it, I knew it would be a matter of days before you ate it up. Even the comments on the original article said "what would America think of Oklahoma, AGAIN."
I wanted to let you know that even though some people believe Oklahoma still roams with naked Indians and hot-headed Republicans, there is a good strong group of intelligent people and Democrats.
Read about Jim Roth, my friend just gave the maximum allowed to his re-election campaign. He is an openly gay politician and from what I hear, a great guy. As other have mentioned as well, we have a large gay scene in Oklahoma and our equality center is the largest in the country.
You just have to let people like Sally Kern and this new bozo alone and hopefully soon there will be a reform.
1. It's really hot in Oklahoma.

it's a shame that oklahoma is recognized by the small town ignorance of so many people here. but in all reality, people need to realize that this is ONE man in our state. yes, as a whole we may be behind other states as far as tolerance goes, but i have seen change in people and younger generations. in no time at all there will also be a change in our government. oklahoma is a great place to live and believe it or not, most of us ARE educated, and we don't all live on farms or in trailer parks. the majority of us are accepting of people with different beliefs than our own. i have enough faith in our city and state to say that this man won't be elected.
There are "fucked up idiots" in every state–not just Oklahoma, and not just the South.
A lot of the tension and controversy is because the status quo is actually changing - not only in Oklahoma but the non-coastal US in general. Jim Roth is a respected openly gay leader, and OKC and Tulsa have amazing, politically active gay communities full of hotties and the much sought after gay dollar/purchasing power. Gay people openly went to prom together at my high school in 2000. OKC hosts an international gay rodeo every year at the state fair grounds. Most people don't give a sh*t, but these old politicians are seeing their black & white world slowly turning shades of pink. IT'S AWESOME! Surely, the good old boys will phase out of Middle American leadership and make way to represent where people are actually at today.
I would like to apolgize for this idiocrity; I've lived in OK my entire life and it's because of these "Bible Thumping" "Moronic" "Judgemental" so-called Christians that give my State a bad name.
