Like, I love the celebrity gossip and what not, but I wish you wouldn't show your face or have an opinion. You're so creepy.
I loved the film. I did think it was a little long, but Heath did a wonderful Job playing the Joker, I felt that he protrayed himself as the Joker very well, he was and will probably always will be the best Joker in any Batman film they continue to make.
It was a masterpiece…

Part 2:
Christian Bale gave me the shits. He's good for looking at, but that's about it. This was my first Batman movie, so I wasn't expecting the ridiculous deep "Batman voice". I didn't really see the point in that, and it made him hard to understand. Combined with his really noticeable lisp (you can even physically see it during closeups of his mouth) I had no idea what he was saying in certain parts.
Maggie Gyllenhaal had no depth either. I didn't know what was going on with her, because I didn't sense any real love for either Batman or Harvey coming from her. There was no spark, which was conflicting especially with the things she wrote in the letter.
Anyway, that's my two cents worth. I don't regret seeing the movie and it was certainly well done, but I wouldn't see it again.

perez, i agree with a lot of your critique. it was definitely too long, and kinda too dark. i thought batman was barely in it enough. i never like maggie gyllenhaal but i didnt think this performance sucked more than any other of hers. however, i thought heath was AMAZING. im just sad that the joker had to be his laast performance
also, i thought it was so annoying when christian bale did that realllllly deep thing with his voice while in the batman costume… not necessary.

Gyllenhal's sister is horrid. She was terrible throughout the entire movie. You could tell everything she was saying was scripted. To me that was the worst part of it all.
Have to disagree with Harvey - didn't really like him. He didn't portray the character well. 2-face? Came up completely random.
Definitely disagreed w/ your opinion of Joker - he MADE the movie worth the watch. He's psychotic, and it really works too. You really have to appreciate what Ledger did with the character. The movie, with any other actor as the joker would have been bland and dull.
The movie may have been long, but I felt that all of the scenes were necessary for the movie's plots. In fact, I have to agree with your comment about the characters seeming 1-dimensional. It's true. So with that, they should have included other scenes as well to develop the characters and move the story forward - perhaps 2-for-1 scenes where both are targeted.
tDK lived up to expectations for me. I was totally taken by it, glued to the damn screen. I just wish the other actors could have given it their all rather than just watch Heath do his thing. (Minus Oldman…he was….well he's Oldman, no need to question this guy's work.)

hey man, although i respect your opinion about the movie. i thought the whole thing rocked but i think youre right there was know growth in the characters except for harvey dent. but all in all my favorite movie ever.
FUCKING awesome! it was a really great movie and i think it lived up to the hype. the first scene was genious- Heath's performance was spot-on, all of the new gadgets were wicked, the action scene in the tunnel was badass and it was full of surprises

Heath Ledger DID make the film. The were ranting and raving on tv and the movie got so much publicity because of him. It was so sad to see him knowing he has passed.
On a different note the movie as a whole…i thought it was amazing. It was a really great movie. I think if the gore factor was turned up it would have taken it too far and it wouldn't have been as good of a movie. I also believe that Maggie sucked…she definately should have been replaced and it would have made the movie much better.

I will tell you my thoughts…I was blown away by the performances of both Christian Bale and Heath Ledger. It is an incredibly sad thing knowing that we won't have the priviledge of watching Heath Ledger give of himself ever again. I think Christian Bale has been sorely overlooked for his performance as Bruce Wayne in this movie based on the novel….NOT THE COMIC BOOK. I was thoroughly pleased with every aspect of the movie, and like someone else wrote…at the end of Dark Knight I could have sat through a replay immediately…In fact I'm going tomorrow afternoon.

I don't blame Maggie at all. The character of Rachel Dawes is just weak. How she goes to saying she's wait for Bruce and kissing him, to being smiley and happy and kissing Harvey is ridiculous. They didn't make her real. They didn't make it believable that she would choose EITHER man- they didn't give her any time to seem genuine towards either of them. What could Maggie have done with that crap?
It's more about the love story between Batman and the Joker, LOL Wow. Heath Ledger did a great job. When he says to Batman that he thinks they were meant to "do this forever"… my heart sank because they won't get to. The Joker isn't supposed to have growth and development… he is what he is. So if that's how you felt, then they succeeded.
I wish they did more with Harvey/Two Face. He needed more scenes to make his transformation from good to "evil" more believable. It's hard to swallow that just losing Rachel did that much damage. You don't go from being a white knight to holding a gun to a child's head that simply.
But overall, I loved every minute. SO exciting. How many climaxes were there?!? Amazing.
The film was Definatly worth the price, it was sorta long but it wasnt one of those movies where you were holding on to your seat. they lacked some action and the death scences were not so good they should have tooken the time and made it more "ahhhhhh" Heath ledger did an outstanding job for being the joker and so did the guy that played Batman overall the movie was good but not to the point where youre going to watch it again.

I agree with you on the wow factor, but there were some awesome action parts especially when batman went around truck and made it flip over. I think you are so wrong about maggie, i love her work and her part in this movie wasn't big, but she did good. Heath played his part to a t and its something totally out of his element, and i think he did great. He better get an oscar nod for it. I'm not a batman fan to be honest, i'm more into the pirate movies, but this was a good movie. Overall I give 3 1/2 stars. Can't wait for the next one!

You were so off base it is almost comical.
The movie was amazing. They successfully took the Tim Burton perception of the characters and made them more realistic and relate able. If a real Gotham ever existed it would be much closer to this movie.
And how can you say the characters were not fleshed out….this is one of the first movies were we see the emotion. Batman's struggle for acceptance, fear of loved lost, and the struggles of being a hero.
As far as making it darker you forget that Batman is a hero for the masses and that is why it would be unfair for it to go for an "R" rating. He is a hero we have all grown up with….limiting who could see the movie would be un-natural.
And finally to say the Heath Ledger was just "good" is so far from the mark. He is excellent, fearless, scary and hilarious all at the same time….A true villian….and Christian Bale…he is always incredible to watch.
This movie is one of the best batman films….hands down…kept me guessing, I was lost in the film….was like the excitement of Christmas! Made me feel like a kid again. As a Batman enthusiast I was proud!

Sorry to burst ur bubble Perez but, Batman is Not a superhero, he is a vigilante. Hes basically just an uber rich guy with a lot of extra time on his hands… The Joker was brilliant… Kudos to the writers on that one
This movie was really really good I enjoyed it a lot, I just hated Batman's voice. Christian Bale was pretty bad in the movie, but the Joker really carried the movie along. Also I agree Maggie was shitty as hell!
it was fabulous!!! All showings were sold out..I had bought tickets online early ystrday morning. The thater was packed.

Heath Ledger was phenomenal especially considering he hardly had any makeup on or special effects to turn him into the Joker. It was just his acting that made that charcter.
Frankly I think he should have been in more scenes..

What makes Heath Ledger a fantastic actor is he drops his own mannersims and adopts those of the character..unlike other "actors" who are just themselves over & over again in each role they play. Even AL Pacino is like that when in every role he ends up yelling some big speech…so stupid!!!
Long live Heath Ledger and he better get a Oscar for that performance or I will be pissed!!!
I think I would have been sadder over Rachel's death, if it would have still been Katie Holmes and not Maggie Gyllenhaal. I thought Heath and Aaron both did a fantastic job. Two Face was very creepy with that face. Heath Ledger definitely deserves an Oscar. He was awesome.

i love you perez, but you're completely wrong. the movie had all the wow factor, and it needed to be dark, i mean thinking of the way the character of the joker kills and thinks, the movie had to be that dark, they more than likely didn't make it R rated so that all batman fans could see it. oh and, have you not seen batman begins? you get most of the character knowledge from that. and i believe the reason you don't get as much backround knowlegde on the joker is because you really aren't suppose to know that much about him, he's a sketchy killer, and in the jail scene they let you know that they can't find any backround information on him, hense not story. just know that he's sketchy, smart, and pretty messed upin the brain.

The guy COMPLETELY STOLE the movie. Instead of 'The Dark Knight' the movie should have been called 'The Joker' coz the guy practically had more screen time than Batman.

I thought that Heath Ledger was absolutely AMAZING, but I agree that the movie was just TOO dark. It wasn't necessary to drill the message of a hero vs. a protector into the viewer's heads as much either.

1. Read the New York Times review of the movie. 2.I could have played the Joker if I had MaryKate Olsen putting her tongue up my asshole and letting me shoot my thesbiam man juice on her face. Those two did so much drugs I cant believe she's alive but she was'nt traveling like him. They were a great couple and she loves dick.Loves dick. I saw him play the Joker many times this time it was put on film he became psychotic from the drugs. Also he was buried in the Joker costume with full makeup. Doesnt that scare you. There was a big fight with Michelle and the family about this and Warners Bros. had to fly the makeup artist to Australia. Also he left a note to Mary Kate that was in a code and they thought it was a suicide note but it only said to pick up some milk. Mary Kate is a little love monkey The movie was great because I had the big box of MilkDuds and during the scary scenes my girlfriend grabbed my thick shaft and yanked on it to the surprise of the 60 yr old lady sitting next to us.I asked her if she wanted some and she said she was watvhing her wieght.

It did get a little long and there wasn't enough action sequences.
It was quite predictable, my friend I went with guess what would happen to Harvey Dent at the very beginning of the movie. Now the predictability wasn't all bad, it almost got inside your head.
I think they should have made it more graphic as well, and definitly needed more action sequences.

I disagree with you. I absolutely loved this movie! Those 2 and a half hours flew by for me. I had many "wow" moments from batman's gadgets to the joker's surprises. Every single character was cast perfectly. I had seen it at midnight and could not stop thinking about it for the next day, it was just that great! I generally don't enjoy superhero movies very much but this one was way better than any normal superhero movie.

Sorry Perez but I disagree with you. I thought The Dark Knight was FANTASTIC!! Best summer movie/blockbuster out there! Better than Iron Man, Indiana Jones, or Wanted…but we all knew that right? So obviously its a graphic novel movie and not a Cohen Brother's movie, which I wonder if that is what you were really looking for? I am glad that Christopher Nolan took it away from the campy superhero/comic book cheesyness and made it more serious, dark. Heath Ledger's performance was very very good btw!! No it wasn't perfect but it was still very good and better than anything I have seen this year (ok Wall-e is great too but different genre…)

THATS HOW GOTHAM CITY WAS AND THEY ARE PORTRAYING IT THE WAY THAT IT WAS. Batman wasnt a super hero he was a symbol in Gotham city who tried to get rid of the coruption in the city.
Heath ledgers performace was flawless and all that hard work paied off but when i saw it afterwards i was just sad. the sequel better be good if not better

The Dark Knight was the best…It was supossed to be dark…not just cuz its the dark knight but becuz its a BATMAN movie…wow…They are trying to go back to the comic book roots and stay away from what the kids know as on tv…so it shows the real stories of what happened in a way…
no character development Perez, the whole movie was basically character development. You see what it takes for someone as good as Harvey Dent to be turned into a psychotic killer. The Joker doesn't have growth because he isn't supposed to, he's a psychotic sociopath, there is no reason to why he does what he does, he's just crazy, but is nothing without batman. Batman does take a backseat to Harvey but its ok, cause i like eckhart. I agree Maggie, yeah not so great, no emotion whatsoever. The one thing i didn't like is the result, not going into much detail, its just going to cause a problem for Nolan to continue the third one…idk… overall i loved it, because i wasn't expecting much…wow this is long sorry but thats my opinion

Perez, I normally agree with you on most everything and FYI - I still love ya and this site, but I adored the Batman movie! It was dark, it was honest and it showed the angst of who Batman really is. The movie was not about the Joker really, although it gave insight into his character as well, but in the end, it was all about Btaman and his struggle with his identity. LOVED it and will see it again and again and again…

He made this movie great and it is so sad that we will not get to see more amazing films from him. He is truly missed. His performance was so haunting and memorable. Christian Bale did a great job as Batman and I felt the film was nothing short of amazing.

i respect your review, perez, but i do disagree with parts of it. i really liked maggie's performance and i was satisfied with the length of the movie. i do, however, agree with what you said about aaron eckhart's role; he did a great job and was a prominent fixture in the movie.
just like your music taste, your movie taste sucks. dark knight is fucking awesome, heath ledger was fucking great, the story covers up so many levels, and the script and production make this superhero movie so real so unique

I think you missed the point re: character development, especially with the Joker - the whole reason he told different versions of how he got the scars was that it points out how some people are just maniacal… there doesn't necessarily need to be a reason, he just hates. That's it.

So i think this was the best film of the year. Maybe it had a little bit too much action for you and you're a little too gay. I could understand that
why does everyone think this movie is too dark? the first one really was much darker..and as for the "wow factor?" how about the pencil..or the truck flipping over…or heath ledger's entire performance?
i'm pretty sure those were all some amazing "wow factors."

Perez, I can't agree with you on this — I loved the film. I found Heath's Joker absolutely CHILLING — def one of the best villains I've ever seen! I waited 3 years for this movie and it did not disappoint.
I don't think Maggie sucked (though I admit I wasn't a fan of her character Rachel)– she's definitely LEAGUES better than Katie Holmes could ever hope to be.
Watch it again!
