I disagree I work at a movie theatre and have heard everyone say they have loved it. Health Ledger makes the whole movie, he is incredible! He definatly deserves an oscar. Batman is kinda sexy too

I really enjoyed "The Dark Knight" and I love the direction that the Batman films are taking in which they are more dark and gritty.I thought that Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker was amazing. He was at times terrifying and dark yet funny.True the movie was about 2 1/2 hours, but I don't mind a long movie has long as it is good….the only thing that annoyed me throughout the film was Batman's voice. That whole raspy, Clint Eastwood voice is totally annoying.

The person who plays the character you hate and think is gone for good has ALREADY signed up for the sequel. Turnabout is fair play, as the saying goes!

Perez, I'm not gonna knock you for your opinion, much like a lot of these people have. I think that's the beauty of the internet, it's an open forum for discussion… though some people would love to turn it into an open forum for ridicule. I think you were expecting a summer blockbuster, I think their nickname is a 'popcorn flick,' and that's not what Christopher Nolan intended for these films. This isn't just a summer comic book movie, this is a F-I-L-M. Artistic integrity-having, get more out of multiple viewings kind of film with many layers of depth that I don't think can be fully appreciated on just one viewing, so I'm really glad I'm going to see it again tonight in IMAX. I appreciate that you wanted to have more fun, but if you want fun, go to Seaworld. Nolan's done the comic book genre a favor by treating it with the artistic gravity it deserves and finally making a FILM out of the subject matter and not just a 2 hour toy advertisement, and I think we're going to see an entirely new type of movie emerging because of this.
They're obviously going to have another sequel, so why overburden the plot with growth? The whole point of the movie was that, if push came to shove, why kind of person would you be? Joker is not meant to grow, because well, he's a cold blooded psycho! Look what he did to the guy on the TV and the people on the boat? And in fact, He was very close to his character. At one point in the comics, the Joker can be quoted as saying "if I have to have a past, I'd prefer mulitple choice." That was represented very well. Also, it was fucked up. Extremely fucked up. Even through Batman won't kill, he'll damn well make sure you can't walk again.
Point of the rant, that was the movie they should have made first off!

AWESOME FILM! One of my favorite films ever! Seriously. Heath should get an Oscar and I loved The Dark Knight. Saw it twice.
I literally just felt my I.Q. drop from listening to that video of yours, actually i didn't listen to the whole thing i stopped after you started complaining about how the 'DARK' knight wasn't fun. It was extremely inarticulate but, nonetheless, this is your site and you are free to feel however you like so I will just take my readings of reviews to actual professional critics from now on. Greatest movie I've ever seen it brings out such a range of emotions in the viewer i don't think there is one single emotion you don't experience while watching this fim. Not to mention how moved I was by Heath's performance. You really don't grasp how much it actually resembled the comic. You're looking for fun? Maybe you should've stuck to Mamma Mia this weekend yeah?

Perez… you were on point. I completely agree with your review. It was great, but I didn't love it. I think people made it out to be something phenomenal, a work of art, and I expected too much out of it. It didn't have that "pizazz" to really wow me. But overall it was a great film.
I personally loved the film. It totally surpassed my expectations. I honestly thought it was just going to be like the famous good guy winning every battle and the bad guy just continuously failing…but wow it so was not like that. I absolutlyyyy lovedd Heath Ledger in this movie…his acting was just unbelievably great. I think the movie was mostly around Heath’s character. However, I do believe there was SOMETHING missing in Batman’s character…I can not pin point what it was. Overall…great movie…everyone should see it asap!

I thought Batman was amazing! Heath made the film with his amazing portrayal as the psychotic joker. And what you said about the characters not being "3D" threw me off because it is based on a comic book. There isn't supposed to be gore it is supposed to be gadget violence, very cool and chic, well, that was m opinion.

OMG best movie so far! Heath made this movie, no doubt about that. He played the Joker PERFECTLY! Tv shows made the Joker seem like some stupid lil villain who hurt people. Oh no. The Joker was a psychotic killer. He killed people for fun. He thought it was all just a game. Then this Batman was the real deal. My english teacher wrote a 400 page thesis discussing if Batman was truly a hero or a villain. He has aspects of both. He doesn't hurt criminals, he kills most of them.
I would love to see the Joker back in the next one. I know it won't be as great, I think Heath has set the bar for all Batman and comic book villains in movies. But I hope they have the Riddler in the next one, it would be great. And I do agree Maggie SUCKED ASS!

I have never seen a 'comic book movie' look and feel so real. I left nearly in tears–in awe over how Ledger truly threw himself into this character. From the way his lips smacked constantly from the scars to the 'halodin like shuffle' walk. I went into this movie with the least expectations and was blown away at how the hype finally matched the quality of this entertaining film.
Maggie grew on me towards the end and I look forward to seeing Bale develop this character more–perhaps this style of writing and film isn't his forte but I enjoyed his performance. I'm amazed at how Gary Oldman can play ABSOLTEULY ANY character; I'll never forget him in 'True Romance'.
This was wonderfully entertaining and I'm looking forward to purchasing the DVD!

Maggie sucked as Rachel, Aaron was a really good Harvey Dent/Two-Face, and Christian Bale was an amazing Bruce Wayne/Batman. however i didn't like the gargle voice he used when he was being Batman..it just sounded like he was trying too hard to sound tough.
Hey well I just saw it on IMAX at the premiere here in Mexico city last Tuesday and for me its absolutely outrageous I mean, I seriously loved Heath Ledger, and probably Perez is right… We wanted to see more superhero cliche movie. But the context here is a little bit more real and its exciting.

I totally LOVED it!!! I was never able to relax during the entire movie because you never knew what was going to happen next (I jumped out of my seat a few times!). Heath Ledger was AMAZING. He was scary and funny at the same time, I couldn't look away from him when he was on the screen he was THAT captivating. I hate that he's gone because he's such a good actor and we will never have that again.
They should have had more of a in memoriam for him at the end of the movie. I knew Harvey was gonna be two face when he had that coin, so that wasn't too surprising, what was surprising was how it happened, that was sad. Batman was hot of course, but he wasn't really the main character in the movie. I felt that the movie had 3 main characters, Batman, Joker, and Harvey, and that's okay. I think anyone who doesn't love it is crazy! Sorry Perez love ya anyways lol Best batman movie and one of the best movies of the year so far!! It totally lived up to the hype.
Did you see Batman Begins? Are you familiar with the Batman story AT ALL? Heath Ledger was a perfect Joker, and this movie wasn't supposed to be about the personal growth of Batman. But I do agree about Maggie Gyllenhal.

i know EXACTLY what you mean, all my friends told me it was amazing and i just thought…not so much. batman wasn't really a big part of the movie, and i freakin hate maggie gyllenho. but i did however think that heath ledger did an exquisite job as the joker there were moments when his serious creepy factor made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

hey perez, i'm a hardcore batman fan. especially of batman begins and i was looking forward to the dark knight because i loved that realistic, dark take on batman. i really think it was an amazing film..and i agree with you that it shouldnt have been pg13, i think they should've took it one step further and made it R. i saw it midnight on thursday and there were KIDS in the theatres. which i thought was completely inappropriate. it's not a children's movie. it's an adult take on the batman. overall, i really think it lived up to my expectations. and ive been waiting for this film ever since i saw batman begins in 2005. i hope heath ledger does get that oscar, i raelly feel like it's deserved. hopefully the dark knight will continue to break records and become firsts (first oscar for a superhero movie)…i genuinely think its that great of a movie. i think some people may misunderstand the movie and that's why they can't/won't enjoy it or love it. i was on imdb and there were alot of comments on the dark knight discussion board from people who just didn't get the movie. anyways, thanks for the review. and youre looking great losing weight! tc
Every person has their own opinion so I respect yours, however you are missing/forgetting a couple key factors of the movie in your review. First off, you say you want it to be more superheroey- but Batman is not a superhero. He is a masked vigilante. Christopher Nolan took this fact and turned the Batman chronicles into what it should be, a more serious movie. As for character development, i thought that the movie moved too fast for ideal development, however the script did provide for some serious development. Batman ended the movie with murder, a rule he refused to break even with the Joker. [continues]
Harvey Dent went through tremendous change as he dealt with the stress of the job and losing his fiancee. Heath Ledger played the Joker spectacularly and showed, in fact, that he is not suppose to have inner turmoil. On numerous occasions he lies about his past showing that there really is no inner hatred or motivation for his character, he was not beaten he was not heartbroken he does not want money. He truly does "just want to see the world burn." As for no action, I honestly don't know what movie you were watching. There definitely was a lot of talking but this movie left you in such suspense from the opening moments to the final credits. Going back to the fact that this is not a superhero movie, the action throughout a majority of the movie was realistic, which some may think is a positive, but clearly you disliked. Overall, MY only gripe was that the movie moved too fast. There was enough plot in this movie to make 2 spectacular movies, which in slowing the transitions may have allowed for more development and what not. But either way, I think Christopher Nolan wrote a spectacular script and executed it nearly perfectly.
Okay. First off, I too went in with reasonable expectations, and came out disappointed. The entire film ended up being quite flat, and I was very disappointed with the lack of character development. But I guess that's exactly what Hollywood films are– when theme and characters become subservient to plot. As opposed to most independent films. Overall, I thought Heath was good, and wouldn't be surprised if his high-profile self got him a posthumous oscar. I wish we were able to further and more deeply explore the descent of Dent, Joker, and Bruce. It could have been an amazing film, but the lack of lifting these characters from the script only provided for an unfortunately long film.
I love you Perez, but trying to look intellectual is not your thing. Leave that to us professionals.

Overall I thought it was great…um…Perez is very articulate in describing his underlying disdain for the movie. He wanted to love it, to love Heath in it, but he was obviously disappointed….and, yes, he is working the "spencer" these days.
dude, i always agree with what you have to say … but it is way off base what you said about the movie, it is fun yet it makes batman as a real heroe, a normal superheroe .. you dont have to have all this kinds of power to make a superheroe, and i think that's what batman is to us in this movie. Heath Ledger, made this movie.. he was the one that made all the drama, he is this movie and i think all the actors agreed to that. Gary Oldman such a strong character also give power to this movie. I think it is an awesome movie, an oscar-nomination movie and I loved it.!

I thought the movie had too much compressed into it. They tried to cover a lot and yeah it was pretty good. Heath was (of course) amazing and if it wasn't so squished-feeling, I'd give it a 10/10. As it stands now, though, I'd still give it a 6.5/10. Two and a half hours wasn't enough, amazingly.

So I disagree with your whole review of the film. Dark Knight was AMAZING! It stayed very true to the comics and I think that if you don't have an understanding or appreciation for the nature of Batman comics, then you may not truly "get" the movie. Heath Ledger was incredible! There isn't supposed to be any growth or development or inner turmoil to his character, that's the whole point of The Joker! That's what makes him so terrifying! I think that anyone who appreciates the comic will LOVE the film. I went with a group of people, some of whom have read every single issue of the comic, and they all loved it and have already gone back to see it again.
