The Dark Knight is the new box office king.
Exceeding initial expectations, the film went on to shatter records left and right this weekend.
The most notable: the new Batman film is now the biggest debut ever in U.S. box office history, especially impressive for an opening on a non-holiday weekend.
The Dark Knight took in $155.34 million Fri-Sun.
That bests Spider-Man 3's 151.1 million in 2007.

Good film. But the make up artists did a terrible job on MAGGIE G.
Anyone else notice that she had 'tired face'. There was a puffy look on her cheeks and dark lines under her eyes.
This movie was brilliant. The action sequences were amazing and thrilling, the music added even more to that, there were twists you didn't see coming, and of course Heath's performance was what made the film. Reviews were right in saying he just immersed himself in The Joker. I have never seen such a transformation/performance like this before. He was funny in a really psychotic, evil way. Everyone needs to see this film!

Saw it last night… Best movie i have seen in a while. And i def. think Heath deserves an award for his performance(R>I>P) too bad he is not with us to see just how brilliant he really was.

Heath Ledger and Aaron Eckhart both did some fine acting in the movie. Christian Bale was lame though. His batman persona sucks. There's no beating Michael Keaton. Christian Bale's take on BATMAN was borderline cheesy. I was actually laughing when he'd start talking in his robotic BATMAN voice. He almost ruined the experience for me but Ledger, Oldman and Eckhart brought it back. Very good. I didn't feel like I was watching BATMAN. It felt like just a well made thriller when Batman wasn't in the scenes.

I disagree. but i think it does have everything to do with heath..
i remember when the first photo of Heath as the joker came out, and he looks sooo insane and scary and awsome– a HUGE difference in appearance from every other Joker in Batman movies.
the second I saw that "Why so serious" photo, with him sitting in the chair in prison.. I WAS GOING TO SEE THAT MOVIE.
This film is worth all the hype and deserves to knock Spider-man 3 an it's retarded ass. This film will continue to make millions while spider-man 3 fell off quickly after the opening weekend due to the fact that it sucked balls. I wish Heath were here to reprise this role.

if heath was still alive i bet it wouldn't have done as well, it sounds sad but i bet idiots out there wouldn't have watched it other wise, thats horrible watch the movie cause you think it might be good not cause there is a guy in it that is now dead WHAT AN INSULT TO HIS NAME, i bet he wouldn't want that as partly the reason why some watched it,
i hoped most people would haved watched it anyway cause i haven't watched it yet but if he was alive i still would have and thats what everyone should do, watching cause one of the main actors in the film is now dead is pretty sick
Dark Knight was so freakn great. It was a little bittersweet though. This movie would have been it for Heath Ledger. Every movie producer would have wanted him as a leading role. So sad =(
You should say it took in $155M "so far" on Sunday since it's not even 1PM on Sunday yet on the west coast!

I was dry heaving when she was on screen yet I found no problem looking at Two Face and his fucked up grill. I think the make-up team did what they could. The ugly bled through the make-up.
Definetly in my top ten favorite movies ever, I am obssessed *o*!! Loved it. Although I do believe the Joker made the movie, without him it would have been a'ight.

as for Perez saying Maggie sucked as Rachel, well, maybe Perez was thrown off because she had a sexual air about it–which might turn off a guy who's not into chicks. i liked her, she's got a playful presence going on there.
the Joker was hot- i wanted to lick his makeup off.
some of the action was a little over the top, but hey, it's hollyrude and the popcorn tasted good.
i wanted to see more of Bruce Wayne's playboy act–it was simply surface junk, really.
i went with a friend who knew absolutely nothing about the comic, so she was clueless about the Obvious harvey into 2-face, which i found annoying, because i had to explain it to her during the bloody movie.
again, the Joker made the movie.

OMG THIS MOVIE WAS AMAZING! i saw the midnight showing of it, and then i went again last night. The second time i saw it i comprehended a lot more. Christian Bale is a fine piece of meat in this movie, and i'm looking forward to seeing it again!

Heath Ledger definitely did an excellent job. I'm just a little annoyed that people think he should take all the credit for it. The makeup artist alone is responsible for about 90% of the effect. Then you have the modern technology which obviously gives this movie and the performers an advantage. I personally thought Michael Keaton was the best Batman. It's hard to say The Dark Knight was phenomenal when the actual Batman character was so annoying and silly. I couldn't believe it was Christian Bale actually. What the eff? Seriously. Michael Keaton had an effortlessness about him. He was Batman without even trying to be. He just talked like himself. That said, Heath Ledger has always been an above average actor. People knew this way before The Dark Knight. He unfortunately didn't live long enough to reach that career milestone. This movie is memorable but he had way more to offer than this. It's a real shame that he's gone.
It was an anti-war movie. Did you notice how the Batman character was portrayed as an asshole? It reminded me a little of Christian Bale's character in American Psycho. The Joker was idolized for his care-free spirit. He's a "better class of criminal." He doesn't care about money or fame, but he does care about tearing down social bariers and causing a chaos that would require rebuilding society to some extent.
HEATH LEDGER was good in EVERYTHING he played in, ppl don't you all remember 10 THINGS I HATE ABOUT YOU, and BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN…its just a pity that he won't be here to accept the credit that this movie is getting…and dead or alive he ALWAYS brought it…….
..it was so good, it was a little long and they probably could have taken a whole hour out of it, but it was still worth sitting through. heath's portrayal of the joker was phenomenal. i laughed so hard watching it, he was funny. and an amazing actor.

K, i just saw the Dark Night two day ago and HOLY FRIGGIN SHIT! It was absolutly INCREDIBLE!! theres no words to describe Heath Ledgers performance as the joker! It was sensational, it was captivating, i couldnt lean back in my seat! BOLT upright the WHOLE time! GOD, i have no idea how Heath was so utterly in depth into the role, it was STUNNING! jeeze, if i see the movie again, ill have a heart attack! Bale did an excellent batman job, and Gary Oldman was superb as always, Maggie G was amazing with a saucy twist, but…if you dont mind me sayin,..she wasnt looking her best in that film. BUT OMG the rest of it!! There was so much action-packed thrills, unexpected twists and…BEST FRIGGIN MOVIE OF ITS TIME! There was just nothing wrong with it, it was so geniously directed and delivered. OH and Aaron Eckhart played a great two-face, DIDNT SEE THAT ONE COMING! LOOOOVED IT! Oh and is it wrong to think that Heath looked soo sinfully sadistically SEXY as a maniacal killer? hahah

I literally just walked in the door from seeing it. Good movie, a million miles above the last installment, Heaths performance was excellent, I don't know if it is Oscar worthy, but it is very good. Bale, just so so. Heath's character is the star, clearly.

It was a fantastic movie! Even if you took out the mask/cape/superhero element, the story was a great exploration of the conflict between good and evil, and the gray area in between. Heath Ledger was fantastic, but so was the rest of the cast. Maggie Gyllenhal was SO much better than xenuphile Katie "Worst Actress Ever" Holmes.
I would have to agree with Pz' previous comments… it was SUPER looooooooong and could have been better… Heaths performance was impressive.
i definitely enjoyed the 2 hours and 30 minutes. and Heath did an amazing job, the man deserves an award. i wasn't blown away by Christian Bale.. or Maggie.. but i love them both, don't get me wrong… they should have had a different leading actress.

I went and saw it last night. I love batman and heath ledger but in my opinion the older ones were better. The joker wasn't made demented enough for my expectations. He is probably my favorite batman villin and the first one was just better.
I really think the main thing fueling these reviews is heaths death which yes was definitely sad I loved all of his movies. As for the movie it self… while good, it isn't what everyone is making it out to be.
The movie was awesome! However, word is out that there will be another Batman and well, good luck to Nolan and crew on topping this one. It def. will be hard, esp. with there being no Heath in the picture.
I saw the movie last night and I LOVED IT!!! Heath Ledger did such a good job. He blew Jack Nicholson's "Joker" out of the water!!! RIP Heath!

I loved how in *sigh* HEATH LEDGER's unbelievable insanely perfect performance, he never had to TRY hard at jokes and humour, they just came generally with his character! FUCK IT WAS SOOO GOOD! RIP Heath, i wish you were here to see what an unreal phenomenon youvve brought to the world of entertainment! BEST MOVIE EVER
I just got back from it and it was amazing! I ate up every second and every scene with Heath Ledger was just electrifying. Wow. Breath taking. I'm glad to know there's hope out there for the film industry, but sadly Heath cannot be a future part of it. R.I.P. Mr. Ledger. I'm glad the part that killed him wasn't in vain. His performance is haunting.

Overall a decent film. It had great action and the acting was phenomenal. However, the film was too long and the violence was gratuitous. The Joker was always a thief who killed only when necessary. This movie turned the Joker into a homicidal maniac and nothing more. Like I said, the violence could have been turned down a few notches and the point would have remained the same.
I loved heath in the movie and i loved Gary Oldman!!!! WOOT WOOT awesome movie overall.
To COME AS YOU ARE: Maggie doesn't have a "tired look" she has an old ugly woman look cause she's ugly as hell, no makeup can fix that, she's also significantly overweight. The movie is very stressful, i came out of it feeling exhausted like i was beaten up, my back hurt and i had to go to sleep straight away. It's very good but very stressful in my opinion.

It was good. We all loved it! I would go see it again too at the movie theater. It is so sad for Heath that his life was cut so short but lives on the movies he left behind for us to enjoy. His parts on the movie were not too many but was great. xoxo
The movie was pretty good actually, better than I expected - thought it was going to be over rated- and it def didn't feel like it was over 2 and a half hours long. Heath Ledger definitely stole the show. He was one of our generations best actors, may he RIP
