Jessica Simpson performed at her first proper country show this past weekend and things did not go as she would have liked.
When the wannabe country singer took to the stage at the Country Thunder Festival in Twin Lakes, Wisconsin, on Saturday night, she was greeted with a warm welcome of boos, reports the local paper.
And, her reviews were less than stellar!
"Many audience members found her attempt to crossover into country irritating and that her vocals lacked a southern sound," says one critic.

okay i was there the whole time… all 4 nights… and people might say everyone booed but they really didnt!! she gave a great performance! and she was the sweetest girl ever!! and tony was just as nice… and the whole thing about him putting some girls number in his phone is completley false! he was watching jessica peform the entire time… and when he went backstage it was with her…. people need to accept peolpe do change and get over themselves…. jessica did an awsome job!!!
I was there, she did awesome, I didn't hear one boo…I think this is Perez Hilton once again bashing young, beautiful women…so what's new?

If you weren't actually at country thunder then you shouldn't be talking shit about her performance because you weren't there. There were no boos, in fact people seemed to like her performance and there was a lot of cheering and clapping. And to the people who hate on Tony and Jessica, again if you don't know them, then stop talking. FYI: Tony barely ever drinks and he was cheering on Jessica from the stage all night, not talking to other girls. I know b/c I had backstage passes and saw it.

I think Jessica's voice itself is pretty good, she just needs to take some lessons from Barbra Streisand as far as pronunciation is concerned. She butchers some words/phrases, you can barely listen to the song. I'm thinking specifically of the acoustic version of her "With You" song. I like the song itself very much, but the pronunciations…yikes.
She's awesome. I love Jessica.
weird, ive heard all great reviews from that concert… from people who attended and from professional industry critics who were there… said she was awesome… and if you did your research.. she was gospel before and grew up in texas on country music… maybe she's finally just comfortable enough in her skin to sing what she wants and not what people make her sing….

Well that's just Wisconsin. Her single is making inroads to chart success. I don't like country and I'm sorry that she abandoned pop. "I Belong to Me" from her last pop album was mishandled. It should have been a major chart-topper. Her ignoramus father didn't have that track on the initial album run and it was, far and away, the best track! And when she released it as a single, her ingnoramous father used an alternate version of the track, which was subpar to the original. Her dad messed-up everything, including her career.

I really do feel sorry for Jessica Simpson - as she's said herself, she's been being groomed for pop stardom since age 12, and she really hasn't had to think for herself at all.
I get the impression she's actually quite bright, but that her father has one strategy for her career: be as much like a Barbie Doll as you can, for as long as possible. "Critics complain? Okay, we'll make her thinner and blonder! Fans start booing? Okay, we'll make her thinner and blonder!"
(His strategy for Ashlee has been similarly stereotypical: "Yeah, Ashlee can have a more 'edgy' image, but she's also depending mostly on looks, so we need to get that nose fixed, STAT.")
Personally, I think the only way Jessica can save her career and prevent permanent banishment to the B-list is if she leaves LA and spends a year or two in Europe/Africa/India, FAR AWAY from her father, $20,000 handbags, omnipresent paparazzi, and performances in the Bible Belt. A couple of months on her own in a stately home in rural Scotland might finally allow her to become a real person rather than a pre-packaged Twinkie.

Country thunder is right by my hometown and is usually an awesome country festival. People were surprised and disappointed when they heard she was going to play this year. Some of my friends even said they were going to leave early (that never happens!) because they didn't want to see her. Apparently she played "With You"..uhm..hello Jess…that is not a country song!!
