Oh by the way Perez, READ THE NOVEL BEFORE COMPARING IT TO X-MEN! IT'S FAR BETTER AND DARKER THAN IT!!! :(

Anyone who know's anything about Watchmen knows it will be awesome. To those who don't just sit home and watch Fool's Gold. I'm sure it's right up your ally!

i saw the watchmen trailer right before seein the dark knight and immediately i was like "HOLY SHIT THATS AWESOME!" .. i was never much of a comic book fan when i was younger, but im starting to really get into the universe of both marvel and dc .. watchmen looks freaking amazing and whoever doesnt think so needs to seriously just go watch bambi or some other kid shit .. and like x men ? .. oh please .. if its like x men, i might just go shoot myself .

Watchmen is the greatest comic book ever written. Thankfully Snyder is incredibly faithful to the movie and so far the movie is 3 hours long which is awesome.

It is NOT going to be the next x-men, b/c watchmen is not a comic book, it's a graphic novel. It doesn't have sequel after sequel. It's a self-contained story. Additionally, it's one of the smartest graphic novels out there, supremely poignant and tragic (if not a bit morose), and considering all the superhero movies out there, very fresh, even though it was written in the 80s, I believe. Also, it is the only graphic novel on Time's 100 Best Novels of the 20th Century.

I think it looks wonderfully true to the novel, which is a huge plus, and has great potential!

Promising! Obvs!!! I know it sounds nerdy but you have to read the comic book/graphic novel before you see the movie. Then you'll know exactly how bad ass it is. It's so good they've been trying to make this movie since the novel came out… in 1985.

  13. Denis says – reply to this

    113

I'd never even heard of this until I saw it in the trailders before The Dark Knight. I think it looks pretty badass, very Sin City-ish.

    115

The graphic novel is fantastic and everyone should take the time to read it. I have high hopes for the movie and think it will be done very well based on what i've seen about it so far. I am concerned about how they seem to be marketing it. This trailer does make it seem like a cheesy rip off of a different comic book movie, but that is not the case. The novel itself is an intelligent work the examines both the concept of costumed heros functioning in the real world as well as a taking a look at were the world is going due to cold war-esque nuclear powers. It's the most thoughtful and creative thing i've read about the state of the world in a long time. I hope the movie does it justice and helps people respect what it has to say instead of scoffing at another superhero movie.

  16. nate says – reply to this

    116

wow…the Watchmen is THE most celebrated graphic novels of all time! I don't know if I am, altogether, pumped about this movie, but the trailer didn't really give much to seriously digest. If they just take the graphic novel and splash it onto the screen, it will be amazing. On the other hand, if too much "artistic liscence" is used…it could be downright shiteous.

  22. annoy says – reply to this

    122

Perez you're such a fucking moron. You have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about. How hard is it to at least Google or Wikipedia something? "Watchmen" is beyond a comic book, its one of the greatest NOVELS of all time. The next X-Men? What the fuck are you even TALKING about? Just like you're review of the Dark Knight- you think you're intelligent as you whip out terms or post things like this but in truth, you're just a fucking idiot.

And to anyone who insulted people defending a graphic novel, I can assure you they probably do have lives as they have read and understood a work of literary genius. Go back to Gossip Girl and let the intelligent people talk about lauded pieces of literature.

    Re: brite

I totally agree. Rip off of Christian Bale's Batman voice for sure.
Also I like how nobody seems to mention the fact that Alan Moore is DREADING this and never wanted it to be made. They didn't even get his permission, just stole his intellectual property and quite possibly butchered it.

you do know that graphic novels are basically comics but all of them put into one big package? watchmen was a comic but it ended cause it was a mini series that lasted a year until it then turned into the graphic novel we all love.

he doesnt want to watch this movie cause all of his other movie adaptions of his work was shitty, for example like from hell and league of extraordinary gentlemen so he vows not to see this. he said that he would watch it maybe but the reason he doesnt watch it now is because he hated 300 and zack snyder directed 300 and he doesnt like that facct

  31. rache says – reply to this

    131

    .

    .

    .

    .

Well–as many have already mentioned–this film is based on arguably the best graphic novel of all time, so if you consider the source material, it's possible that the movie could be great.

BUT the author of Watchmen, Alan Moore, has publicly spoken out against the movie and its director (he calls Zack Snyder's last movie, 300, "racist" and "homophobic").

Moore himself has never been interested in turning the story into a movie, and the brilliant Terry Gilliam gave up on the idea of an adaptation as well. AND apparently DC comics majorly screwed Moore, and now he won't speak to anyone involved with them (including Warner Brothers).

SO I'm not sure how the movie will be–if the man that wrote it is against adapting it for the big screen (just as he was against adapting his other books, notably V for Vendetta, From Hell and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen–and we know how well THOSE films turned out) then I doubt the movie will do the book justice.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Watchmen is the greatest graphic novel in existence, the only one to have made best seller lists or indeed best novels of the 20th century. If you kids are any sort of "comic book" fans then you need to read watchmen, not just go and see it in the cinema, it completely revolutionised the way that comic books stories were handled after it was published!

  42. chick says – reply to this

    142

zach snyder is a genius. this is the greatest graphic novel of all time. its going to be absolutely amazing. i enjoyed this trailer more than the dark knight when i saw it in theatres. seeing it on the internet does it no justice.

    144

Re: none – the only reason alan moore is "dreading" the movie is because he had such a bad experience with "v for vendetta". the screenwriters changed the plot so much for the movie that he wanted nothing to do with it whatsoever. he chose to have all royalties go to dave gibbons (the artist) instead of himself for "watchmen". however, he has read the script and said its as close as he think an adaptation could be. so its got to be pretty badass.

  45. Saraa says – reply to this

    145

I reckon the film won't actually be bad; the trailer's just flippin' awful.
they need to lose the song, and get more dialogue in.
not impressed by the trailer at all.

  46. vin says – reply to this

    146

rache - alan moore hasn't seen 300, he is basing his opinion on the comic. and the guy doesn't like movies in general. his work is genius but he leaves alot to be desired as a person.

Second. no one stole his intellectual property, when he wrote the book, it automatically became property of DC, but he got jibbed in the contract but he was aware and even says he was naive'.

    148

I'm on the fence as to the preview, but my gut feeling is Thumbs Sideways and Slightly Down.

Is that an official trailer? The song is by the Smashing Pumpkins; a re-mixed, previously unreleased version of the theme from Batman and Robin called 'The End is the Beginning is the End.'

I don't see Corgan licensing out a used song, so my guess is Warner Bros. owns the rights to that particular one. Lame. They couldn't even license a fresh song?

Not sure what it means when you say is this going to be the next x-men!!! It's the Watchmen and has nothing to do with the x-men. It will either stand on it's own or not. By the way the trail looks bad. It is set for a March release which is not a good sign right there. Hopefully it will be good. But not promising.

The Watchmen is the most high acclaimed graphic novel in history. That being said, most people have never heard of Alan Moore or his Watchmen. I think the trailer is lacking but it does accomplish what it was meant to do and that is to introduce everyone to the Watchmen. Hopefully later trailers will give viewers a clue as to what the novel is actually about. Alan Moore is the greatest!!!

This is going to be amazing. I've been reading up on it since pre-production, this is going to be no where close to x-men, nothing like it. X-men is a piece of shit in comparison, and the story lines are completely different. The director is going all out and even including the comic book that is read by one of the characters, if he could make 300 that awesome on the screen, I can't wait to see what he's going to do with this.

That being said, I honestly hope they don't fuck this up like, oh, I don't know Ghost Rider/Fantastic 4(both of them)/Spider-Man 3(okay, it wasn't that bad, but still)/Superman Returns(Really? He has a son now? Really?)

and 2. he follows the novel to a t! which is gonna be epic! and Alan moore himself even helped out with this which is shocking!

Uhh, no. Alan Moore didn't help out with this film. He negotiated to get his name removed from it.

But anyway, I'm surprised they didn't include the smiley face with the blood on it or the phrase "Who watches the watchmen?" in the trailer. It's also kind of strange how Doctor Manhattan is really glowy. But I do look forward to watching this film.
