Sherri's Startling Confession: "I had more abortions than I would like to count"

The View co-host Sherri Shepherd recently made some startling revelations to Precious Times, a magazine for today's black Christian woman.
On life before Christianity:
"Before I converted to Christianity, I was a Jehovah's Witness. In 1993, my mother was dying from diabetic complications. My sister was heavy into drugs, and we would have to go and get her from crack houses. I was in a very physically abusive relationship. I was sleeping with a lot of guys and had more abortions than I would like to count. I had very low self-esteem and just wanted to die. I felt if someone killed me, it wouldn't even make a difference. But God showed me that it would make a difference."
She also tells the mag that that it is hard being 'taken to task about her faith' on The View:
"Oh sometimes I say, 'Lord, Juanita Bynum or Joyce Myers (evangelists) would be so good at this table. They could lay hands on Barbara Walters and get her saved. I ask the Lord, 'Why am I here?' I have to trust God when He says, 'Because I said so.'"

If she now believes in Jehovah, why would it have been such a big leap to believe in birth control? Not to mention that if she became pregnant multiple times (more than she could count), then she also wasn't even bothering to practice safe sex, and could have easily contracted HIV even with what we've known for decades. Sherri Shepperd might be a fine goodhearted person, but her education is sorely lacking and she does a poor job representing women, particularly African American women, on the View. Time for a replacement. Isn't one over-the-top religious conservative on the show enough? (while they're at it, the View should replace the whining, petulant Hasselbeck too)
I can't say that I am a fan of Sherri or The View but what I do know is it takes a lot of courage to stand up and admit that. Good for you Sherri!

Thank you, I was thinking the same thing. I work with a few Jehovah Witnesses and they are more chase than the so-called Christians. I just don't get her at all. I just don't see them sleeping with guys and getting abortions. What is she talking about??????!!!!

I applaud her courage to admit to the things her old life contained. Thank the lord jesus christ that she now has a new life and is redeemed by christ and christ alone. Theres a reason why she is sititng on that table on The View and that is to spread the Lord's message. Hopefully people will learn by her mistakes, and realize our lives are so short on earth, what you really need to worry about is whether or not your getting into heaven. And the only way is through Jesus Christ.so accept him and you will be safe and live in the kingdom forever.

Everyone likes to yell Jehovah's Witness when they get in the spotlight to pull the Michael jackson angle but Jehovah's Witnesses are christians and do not allow sex before marriage or abortions or wife beating or crack houses and anyone doing any of that would get thrown out instantly. Every religion has screw ups but I tend to think she definitely wasn't one if she didn't even know they're a Christian denomination and there are far too many members for it to technically be a cult anymore.

Jehova's Witnesses do not believe in the divinity of Christ. They believe he was a good person and God's son in the way that we are all children of God, not an actual physical son. Most Jehova's Witnesses do consider themselves Christians, but most Christians do not consider a group who does not believe Jesus is the actual son of God to be Christians.
And too bad she may come off holier than thou sometimes, but the point of Christianity is that no one is perfect–otherwise why would we need Jesus? That is why we are given grace, even though we don't deserve it. It sounds like she feels what she did was wrong and has asked for forgiveness. It isn't for any of us to judge.

I WAS a "saved" person. until i started realizing that not EVERYTHING the church was telling me was in the bible. so i started looking for answers and jsut happened to find it with JW's. they believe in the bible and that it is the inspired word of God. They are the kindest nicest ppl i have ever known. and straight up sincere about loving God.
My life is much better for having come to know JW's and what they stand for. And i find that i have a much deeper more honest relationship with God now.

The main difference is that, most of the time, I most often see that non-christians seem so much more practical and level-headed in their opinions. Christians are so clouded by "what the Bible says" and "what Jesus would do" and what the "scriptures want us to be like", etc. etc.
So entertaining. There really is a definite line drawn in the sand between organized religion, and not organized religion!
p.s Jehovah Witness are not followers of Christ. Fo all that do not know what a Christian is. A Christian is someone who believes that Christ died on the Cross and rose from the grave. I am not sure who told you that Witness are Christians but you all are not correct. Sorry. I do not want to be lumped together with people who do not believe the bible is the only word of God.
