Sad sad news.
Estelle Getty has passed away.
The legendary actress died today in her Los Angeles home at 5:35 A.M.
She was 84.
While this is truly sad news, we must be comforted to know that she is in a better place now.
The Golden Girl had been very sick recently and had been fighting dementia for years.
Our thoughts go out to her family.
So sad.

I love the Holden Girls, I will be so sad when Bea Arthur and Betty White pass, 2 amazing tv legends.
I also love Rue and Estelle, they were great.
My heart is broken! She made my sad days happy ones watching her as Sophia! I will miss her terribly!
R.I.P. Estelle. You will truly be missed. You were such a talented woman and you made so many people laugh. You were my favorite Golden Girl and you will remain so for all time.
Rest in peace Estelle - you will be missed. Will watch some episodes tonight in your memory xx

So very sad…when Ms. Getty was on "Golden Girls" playing Sophia, she reminded me SO MUCH of my Italian GRANDFATHER! Her view on life, the comments…it was like having him back in my world again. God bless Ms. Getty. May the four winds blow you safely home.

Re: tome – Fear of the unknown? IMO, people refer to it as a better place because it helps them accept the thought of dying. Who knows if it is better? Who knows what happens after death? Just accept it–death is inevitable. You'd better get used to the idea of dying and ccept it, because it will happen eventually, and acceptance makes the transition easier. RIP Sophia.
She was such a talent! Though Betty White is my idol, I feel like all of the Golden Girls were revolutionary doing it way before Sex and the City was just a sperm in the…you get it.

She will be missed and forever cherished, in our household. My son and I watch her on the Golden Girls, every weekday….on Lifetime. My son, while he is getting ready for school, and me…while I am chasing after my kid, so that he won't be late for the school bus. It broke my heart, when I read of her passing. We (my son and I) wish her Godspeed, into the comforting arms of our Maker. She has brought too much laughter, kinship and togetherness…to ask for ANYTHING less.

Estelle had suffered towards the end so I'm torn over losing a great gal like her and happy that she's in a better place. YOU WILL BE MISSED LITTLE LADY!
We all watched hours and hours of GG. They got us through some bad times and most of all the good times. It is the most wonderful and comforting of shows. It has and will continue to span generations of people and we are better for having known Sophia. So tonight, well watching another episode, I will raise a glass to this wonderful woman.

I have grown up watching the Golden Girls and knowing that I can always turn to my four 'friends' when I want is very reassuring. Estelle's performance as Sophia was pure genius; from her wise cracks about Stan's baldness to her more endearing qualities of being a good friend and mother.
I never got the opportunity to meet Estelle, but she will always be considered my third grandma.
