Sad sad news.
Estelle Getty has passed away.
The legendary actress died today in her Los Angeles home at 5:35 A.M.
She was 84.
While this is truly sad news, we must be comforted to know that she is in a better place now.
The Golden Girl had been very sick recently and had been fighting dementia for years.
Our thoughts go out to her family.
So sad.

Picture it, Boston 2008.
I was sitting at my desk enjoying a delicious lunch of Chicken Marsala when all of sudden I click into the net and read the words I have dreaded since I first heard Estelle was sick, actually I have dreaded finishing this frgigin report …but I digress. There in BIG BLACK LETTERS Estelle Getty has passed away!
My heart is pounding in my chest and tears begin swell, and I hear the name over and over in my head SOPHIA! SOPHIA! I think the angels have called her home!
RIP Sofia! You'll always be my favorite Golden Girl!
SHE WAS MY FAVORITE "GOLDEN GIRL" AND SHE BROUGHT MANY SMILES TO MANY PEOPLE. SOFIA PETRILLO WILL LIVE FOREVER!

so sad but its inevitable. it sucks she had dementia that last years of her life. loved her on Golden girls! she will be greatly missed! I hope she had a star on the walk of fame!!If not she deserves one!
This really breaks my heart, but I know "Mrs. Petrillo" is in a better place now. I still watch the show on Lifetime. I love the stories about Sicily or whenever she called Blanche a slut. Hahahaha. May she rest in peace.

I am glad she is being treated w/ respect. She was a great actress. I agree w/ everyone who said Dementia is a horrid illness. It robs not only the person of a life, but the family as well. So sad. Estelle was one of the younger gals! She was second to the youngest. …Rue, Estelle, Betty and Bea. What a hilarious show. This show is dirtier than SATC, and very clever. I am truly saddened to hear of this news. I really do feel like I lost a friend!

I am so sad, I seriously can't get over it. I love you Sophia, Goodbye Estelle. My Grandma always let me stay up late to watch Golden Girls, and I learned so much about being a woman from that show, the catty backwards compliments, the healing that come from splitting a pint of Hagendaz with your BFF, getting ready for dates, glamour, work bullshit, men bullshit, everything that sister and your closest girlfriends can bring into your life, and the wisdom of our collective Grandmas. God Bless Her. I loved her. She was a great contribution to comedy and the GOLDEN GIRLS is legendary. She is proof that you can make your dreams come true because she persevered and became a working actor later in life. She was funny, lovely, and had a heart of gold. They don't make 'em like they used to.

I even dressed up as her for halloween one year, this is absolutly devestating…i loved her witty attitude on the show and i even carried out that same wit in my own life, inspired by her..she was truly a GOLDEN GIRL and will be very missed PS perez she loved the gays!
