Sad sad news.
Estelle Getty has passed away.
The legendary actress died today in her Los Angeles home at 5:35 A.M.
She was 84.
While this is truly sad news, we must be comforted to know that she is in a better place now.
The Golden Girl had been very sick recently and had been fighting dementia for years.
Our thoughts go out to her family.
So sad.

I heard she couldnt even reconize the cast from golden girls…so sad..R.I.P.

God I feel like she was my own Grandmother- I have known Sophia actually longer! She was a part of our family and will be missed. My Mom suffers from the same disease…. RIP MA!
The Golden Girls is my favorite show, and Sophia will always be able to make me laugh no matter what's going on in my life…. even men who have refused to watch the show with me over the years have admitted to loving Sophia and finally agreed to watch it just for her…. R.I.P. Estelle, thank you for being a friend!

I LOVED Estelle.
I remember watching the Golden Girls when I was little and felling sad because I thought that because she played an 80-something year old on the show that she was nearing the end- then being thrilled to learn that she was actually like two decades younger and would be around longer.
I loved all the gilrs on that show, but Sophia was BRILLIANT! I loved her stories best. "Picture… Sicilly… 1926."
I hope she knew how many people loved her as she got on in years.

The Golden Girls is one of my favorite shows, they just don't make shows like that anymore. Sophia was my favorite, she is one of a kind.. Picture this Sicily 1937…. I think Lifetime needs to put together something in memory of Estelle, she has touched so many lives throughout the years. Golden Girls is the best show on Lifetime I tivo it everyday… Lifetime better not cancell the show since there changing their image b/c the Golden Girls are Lifetime and without the show you will lose the heart of the Lifetime channel.. My prayers go out to her family and may she rest in peace.. Thankyou for being my friend Sophia Petrillo!

My parents have a satellite dish and all they watch is Golden Girl reruns, the Discovery Channel, and the History Channel.
I wish my grandmothers had been as funny as her. One was just MEAN and the other one had Alzheimer's for so many years, I don't know what she was really like.

Dear, dear Estelle you will be sorely missed but etched forever in our hearts as a wonderfully funny, lively and brilliant comedienne and actress. You by far were the funniest, sharpest, bitchiest but most warm & honest character on The Golden Girls. Oh how many times you made my sides split and eyes tear with roaring laughter!! My true, sincere condolences to her family, friends and fans. Ms Getty, your legacy will live on forever and you shall be remembered for all time…R.I.P our most beloved Golden Girl. Thank you for being a friend!

i was so sad to find out that estelle getty had passed away. i actually cried when my friend amanda told me. its a tradition that amanda and i watch Golden Girls together everyday. estelle you will be terribly missed and i know that your in a better place and in no more pain. at least your still with us everyday in spirit and on the Golden Girls. RIP

Faithfully I watched when they were on NBC prime time and in the late 90's when they returned in syndication…Rest in peace Estelle you brought a smile to my face on so many different occasions!!!The world has lost a geniune GOLDEN GIRL! THANK YOU FOR BEING A FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!

SO SAD! Even though she lived a fairy long life (Died 3 days before her 85th birthday) It's still sad, Golden Girls is a classic tv show. Bea Arthur doesn't look to good either…..I couldn't imagine watching the show once they all die! Will be too sad.

Picture this … A woman, a fantastic actress, has sadly passed away to be she will be missed but remembered always as the little Sicilian woman with a story for every situation.
: ( I'm sad! Thank you for the lovely tribute Perez! God bless Estelle and allllll the Golden Girls - what an awesome show, still one of my faves. Sadly I don't think the remaining 3 will be with us much longer - they're all in their 70s and 80s. In fact, Bea Arthur was a few months OLDER than Estelle who played her mom on the show.
Estelle was a great actress and funny as hell. She will be missed !

God bless her heart!!!. Anyway she will rest in peace now. I knew she was gonna go soon.. My grandpa had the same illness and it was a blessing in disguise when he died. We wil always will had her on our memory and hearts.
