Very disturbing report.
Beijing, the home of the 2008 Olympics, appears to be a racist place.
A report claims that bar owners in the 'party' section of Beijing were asked by the government to refuse service to black patrons.
Bar owners near the Workers' Stadium in central Beijing say they have been forced by Public Security Bureau officials to sign pledges agreeing not to let black people enter their premises.
"Uniformed Public Security Bureau officers came into the bar recently and told me not to serve black people or Mongolians," said the co-owner of a western-style bar, who asked not to be named.
WTF?
Does that mean black athletes can't celebrate at a bar with their team mates after years of training and working hard?!
Isn't it great to see that an event that's meant to to unify the world is happening in a place that subscribes to disturbing ideologies?

I have lived in China (Shanghai), and have never experienced any racism whatsoever. The Chinese have always been nice to me. The worst I ever got was an overcharged cab fare (once, but I remedied that), "Darlie" toothpaste (which is another issue entirely - Chinese people believe Blacks have really clean teeth), and some stares in the countryside from people who have never seen a lawei before.
If the Chinese were so racist, then ask yourself: 1) Why they have shows on CCTV 9 that are hosted by Black people; 2) Why the Chinese football (soccer) and basketball leagues have Black people who have always been well treated; 3) why all of my Black friends who have been to China never encountered any racism (apart from stares because most Chinese have never seen a Black person in real life).
You people are commenting on a place that you have never been to and a culture that you know nothing about. I have been to MANY bars, clubs, and restaurants in China, and I have seen Whites, Blacks, Indians, Hispanics all having a good time. Are some people in China racist? Maybe, but probably no more than in any other country. But the Chinese people are generally polite and friendly to foreigners.

Oh, and a few more observations:
1. China does allow Christians in the country and allows people to be Christian. Although, for Roman Catholics it is a bit different.
2. The Chinese don't kill their little girls. And most Chinese strongly support the one child policy.
3. I never tried dog or cat. But I did have snake and scorpions. Snake is pretty good, but you can not really taste the scorpions.
4. China actually has about 50 minority groups living in China that are treated pretty well (meaning, some policies that affect Han Chinese don't effect the minorities).
According to news reports, the ban is mainly due to the very large problem of African drug dealers and Mongolian prostitutes. Read people, read!
That is messed up!! So what will this mean for US/China relations if Barack Obama gets elected President?? Are they going to discriminate against the dollar too?? Really makes me even more proud to be an American, we have come so far in 230 some years. China has been around for thousands of years and still hasn't realized its social crimes of hate. I find this hard to believe. I went to China with 7 of my friends in March. 6 of us being Mexican, 1 being Korean, and one being black. We never encounter any problems. One night, 5 of us decided to take a taxi and go out to the party area in Shanghai and our black friend came out with us. In the night club they have police officers in the club and they didn't even bother us. The Chinese people were very friendly towards us during are whole stay. Actually the chinese women wanted my black friend because they thought he was a basketball player. The only thing I learned was that Chinese calls anyone who is not Chinese big noses. Btw..we also visited Beijing and we also did not have any problems there.

Absolutely! This is no secret and has been known a long time. Most Orientals don't like blacks. Remember in the 80s when Japans prime minister said the USAs problems were all due to Blacks. That's why they are arming some of the wars in Africa. With the rise in power of the Chinese, it isnt going to be pretty.

People in China call all foreigners "ghosts." It's not a racial connotation, way back in the day when foreigners first started being spotted in Asia, people didn't know what to call others who looked different because they had never been seen before, hence ghosts.

Wow! I can't believe that in this day and age China would do something like that????? What is wrong with them? What makes them think that THEY are better than black people???? I think that's just terrible. There are black olympic participants from probably almost every country. How do can they do something like that? Why are the countries going to attend an event that doesn't allow all of their people to participate in things? BTW, I'm white. I have no idea what it's like to be black or chinese, or anything. But first and foremost I'm a human being. We all have feelings. I could've been born black, just like a black person could've been born white. Racism is evil.
