PETA vs. Batman

PETA is upset with the new Batman movie.
As many of you saw, since the film has done so much business, The Dark Knight had some "unfriendly" dog scenes in the pic.
Particularly the scene where Batman "was punching out dogs left and right." In self-defense of course.
But some PETA is asking why with so many gadgets that Batman has on hand, the only way to defend himself was to hurt the dogs?
What do U think?
Is it just an innocent part of the movie, or is PETA overreacting?

10. Hellboy—This superhero may be someone that would make you cross the street if he came your way (the red skin and horns might be a bit intimidating), but he's just a big teddy bear with a love for kittens (and many successful attempts to save them).

Superman—In a one-shot "PSA comic" entitled "Superman: For the Animals," Supes rescues a kitten from being thrown off a bridge by a group of kids named (seriously) Ballser, Charlie, Donuts, and Eightball and, in the process, teaches everyone a valuable lesson about not picking on anyone weaker than you—including animals.
6. Captain Planet—He just wants to save the planet from the evil Captain Pollution! And that, of course, includes all our wildlife friends who live there. Point of fact, though: "Heart"? NOT an element.
5. Thor—In the Ultimate Avengers animated movie, we find Thor out at sea with a group of activists protesting whale slaughter. If only his fellow Norwegians in the real world got the picture that whaling is a thing of the past!
4. Beast Boy—Everyone's favorite Teen Titan also happens to be vegan (and not just because he's been hanging out on peta2.com like pretty much every other teenager). You would be, too, if you had the metamorphic ability to turn into any animal and therefore had a little compassion for the ones that get eaten.
3. Animal Man—This lesser-known DC hero can mimic the abilities of animals and is an ardent advocate for animal rights. He's a vegetarian, and in Animal Man #15, Animal Man saves a group of dolphins from cruel fishers and drops the villains in the ocean to drown—only to be saved by one of the very dolphins he was trying to kill.
2. Wolverine and Jean Gray—In X-Men Unlimited #44, Wolverine catches three neighborhood boys in the act of torturing and killing animals for kicks—and offers to return the favor on behalf of his furry friends. Using her psychic powers, Jean Gray instead makes the boys experience in their minds the pain and suffering that they caused to their innocent victims. In the next issue … Colonel Sanders!

Wonder Man—In Civil War: Frontline #5, part of Marvel's epic Civil War story arc, Wonder Man is interrupted on his way to an important function by two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents looking for answers about a mysterious aquarium store bombing (read the book). The important function? A PETA banquet. 'Nuff said.

The scene did show animal violence… even though the dogs were not hurt in real life… if people see their favorite super hero dealing with angry dogs by hurting them when their is a better way of handeling the situationpeople might think it okay to hurt an animal too. they should have left out the dogs…the movie is amazing didnt need that
peta needs to settle down. 1- its a movie. 2- if a dogs were attacking a peta membe rwould they let them chow down or maybe try and do anything possible to stop them, 3- shut the eff up peta!!!!!! GIVE IT UP ITS A MOVIE!

I had to close my eyes in that scene. I know it wasnt REAL. But why was it even necessary? I guess it really isnt that big of a deal, but its kind of upsetting to people. Especially animal lovers. It should have just been left out really. Batman was one of the most incredible movies I have ever seen. I would have loved it just as much if they didnt punch any dogs in the face. I could have done without it.

I'm extremely animal friendly and I would never align myself with PETA for precisely that reason — they go to trivial extremes that wind up trivializing their cause in the eyes of those whose views they could otherwise change for the better. It's really pathetic; most of this trivial bullcrap is only done by PETA for publicity. But at what cost?

Considering 4 million animals are euthanized in the US every year while in Mexico and in South America, cats and dogs are euthanized by electrocution, I'd say Peta has more to worry about than a movie. As the housing foreclosures rise and the economy worsens, people are forced to abandon their animals which is starting to cause a crisis for rescue groups all across the country and instead of helping these groups, Peta's going after Batman. Seriously, this is why they are so easily dismissed.

Lord have mercy - people need lives……I love animals more than most people (mine are my children) and i cringed during those scenes, but making an issue out of it?! Its sad that people have THAT much time on their hands - get a hobby. Or better yet why don't you adopt all of those animals that sit in the SPCA and give them a good home so they dont have to die instead of boycotting a great flick. Personally, I am a vegetarian and I am all for PETA. But, SRSLY? That's over the top. It was a M.O.V.I.E and I'M SURE NO DOGS WERE HURT DURING THE MAKING OF THIS FILM. It's a SUPERHERO movie. Those dogs were rabid, and honestly I think they're just looking for something to bitch about. I look to PETA with an auspicious eye now. They're just ridiculous. It is very funny that Peta is against Dog Fighting. According to documents obtained from the Center for Consumer Affairs PETA killed over 10,000 dogs, cats and other animals. And 2 PETA employees were charged for 21 counts each of animal cruelty and assorted misdemeanors. So Maybe Peta hats off to Peta for their support to animal welfare….. or should I say for killing more animals than Batman.

Re: yeah – That is ridiculous. I have seen many movies…and, I have never tried to emulate a 'superhero', after leaving the theater. Perhaps, PETA should stand outside the marquee, and conduct IQ tests, before letting anyone buy a ticket….if, they are that worried that too many people can't distinguish real from fake.
