PETA vs. Batman

wenn5167366.jpg

PETA is upset with the new Batman movie.

As many of you saw, since the film has done so much business, The Dark Knight had some "unfriendly" dog scenes in the pic.

Particularly the scene where Batman "was punching out dogs left and right." In self-defense of course.

But some PETA is asking why with so many gadgets that Batman has on hand, the only way to defend himself was to hurt the dogs?

What do U think?

Is it just an innocent part of the movie, or is PETA overreacting?

Check out their list of the Top 10 Animal-Friendly Superheroes….after the jump.

10. Hellboy—This superhero may be someone that would make you cross the street if he came your way (the red skin and horns might be a bit intimidating), but he's just a big teddy bear with a love for kittens (and many successful attempts to save them).

9. Aquaman—The King of Atlantis, Aquaman can commune with sea creatures, whom he considers citizens of his ocean realm, and routinely protects them from being abused or exploited by the surface-dwellers.

8. Black Panther—As the leader of the African nation of Wakanda, the Black Panther has banned the evil White Gorilla Cult from his country. Members of the cult seek to gain power by killing one of Wakanda's rare white gorillas, bathing in their blood, and eating their flesh (um, gross). The villain known as Man-Ape gained his superpowers by doing exactly that—incurring the wrath of the Black Panther and becoming one of his greatest foes.

7. Superman—In a one-shot "PSA comic" entitled "Superman: For the Animals," Supes rescues a kitten from being thrown off a bridge by a group of kids named (seriously) Ballser, Charlie, Donuts, and Eightball and, in the process, teaches everyone a valuable lesson about not picking on anyone weaker than you—including animals.

6. Captain Planet—He just wants to save the planet from the evil Captain Pollution! And that, of course, includes all our wildlife friends who live there. Point of fact, though: "Heart"? NOT an element.

5. Thor—In the Ultimate Avengers animated movie, we find Thor out at sea with a group of activists protesting whale slaughter. If only his fellow Norwegians in the real world got the picture that whaling is a thing of the past!

4. Beast Boy—Everyone's favorite Teen Titan also happens to be vegan (and not just because he's been hanging out on peta2.com like pretty much every other teenager). You would be, too, if you had the metamorphic ability to turn into any animal and therefore had a little compassion for the ones that get eaten.

3. Animal Man—This lesser-known DC hero can mimic the abilities of animals and is an ardent advocate for animal rights. He's a vegetarian, and in Animal Man #15, Animal Man saves a group of dolphins from cruel fishers and drops the villains in the ocean to drown—only to be saved by one of the very dolphins he was trying to kill.

2. Wolverine and Jean Gray—In X-Men Unlimited #44, Wolverine catches three neighborhood boys in the act of torturing and killing animals for kicks—and offers to return the favor on behalf of his furry friends. Using her psychic powers, Jean Gray instead makes the boys experience in their minds the pain and suffering that they caused to their innocent victims. In the next issue … Colonel Sanders!

1. Wonder Man—In Civil War: Frontline #5, part of Marvel's epic Civil War story arc, Wonder Man is interrupted on his way to an important function by two S.H.I.E.L.D. agents looking for answers about a mysterious aquarium store bombing (read the book). The important function? A PETA banquet. 'Nuff said.

PETA should change their name from PETA to PITA (Pain in the Ass). First of all when you're being attacked by a dog, you are going to sure as hell hurt the dog before you let them hurt you. Honestly. they need to wake up and smell the damn coffee and accept the fact that ANIMALS ARE ANIMALS, THEY ARE NOT HUMANS. God put us IN CHARGE of all the animals not at the same level. They should be shut down or ordered to shut the hell up because now everyone is just annoyed at them and their retarded attempt at "animal rights". Seriously PETA, put down the soy cubes, have a steak, and GET OVER IT.

    PETA sucks.

    Stupid PETA hippies!!! STFU~
I think PETA has lost focus on the goal!! Try bitching about all of the homeless and abused animals. Friggin hollywood movies is your goal now?? Stooooooooopid liberal activists.

  4. KC says – reply to this

    204

PETA is completely and utterly overreacting! Everything offends them and is considered cruelty to animals. If a bird shitted on you and you cursed, they would probably try getting you fined by the police for verbal abuse to an animal. They are hocked up on to much hay!

  5. wtf says – reply to this

PETA does themselves and their important mission a big disservice by making themselves ridiculous with this kind of pr stunt.

PETA STFU and stick to serious matters.

First of all - love dogs, exhausted by PETA. If the main character in a movie is wearing a batsuit, I think it is safe to say that no one is going to think those dogs got hurt. Those dogs were probably fed well and had Mr. Bale pet them in between takes - I am not feeling sorry for them;) My five year old nephew loves Batman and conincidentally he doesn't hit his dog - puppy and him get along just fine. In life, people get hurt, there are good people and bad people; in life, animals get hurt and although I don't think there are evil animals there are certainly some that run more on instinct and others with real heart. The movie conveyed something a little darker. It is a scene - nothing more. And if dogs came at me, I would do whatever I needed to do to keep my jugular in place. This is all a little silly. I can understand people treating their animals like babies or part of the family, what I don't get is people getting more bent out of shape from a superhero movie showing dogs getting harmed than movies that show child abuse, rape, etc. Those are also movies; we all know it, but it happens in real life and it is far more convincing than a Batman movie. Lets not go overboard. We all know that if someone hurts an animal, it is likely that they aren't mentally ill and are just jerks. Let us call a truce, PETA, and stick to complaining about fur-wearing celebs.

"Is it just an innocent part of the movie, or is PETA overreacting?" Seems like the same thing to me. The "or" should mean the two ideas contradict each other.

  10. Ash says – reply to this

    210

No animals were really hurt, that's what's important. Although I would'nt be surprised if this gave Batman wannabes ideas…

  11. danie says – reply to this

    211

so punching the dogs was bad?? i guess in the next film he could use his batman razor blade shooter thing and just chop them to bits. would that be better, PETA??

  12. bobdm says – reply to this

    212

I think that PETA is an organization run by thugs. If many news reports are correct, the leaders should be jailed for conspiracy to commit assault, theft, breaking and entering and other crimes. Terrorists are terrorists. PETA makes Scientologists look like good citizens.

  13. chris says – reply to this

    213

    i agree with PETA!!!

  14. clari says – reply to this

    214

peta is taking this too far.
its a scene in a movie. there are so
many other important issues they should be
    focusing on.

    You goddamn moron.

I am a peta member and supporter but they are being completely ridiculous. It's a movie, the dogs were not actually hurt. Peta needs to learn to pick its battles wisely.

    218

i fucking hate PETA. they make me nauseous. i LOVE animals, more than human beings (sorrryy). but IT'S A FUCKING MOVIE. ITS FAKE. WTF is wrong with them? theyre just fucking bored and have to put their full-time workers to use. they're sooo sickeningly ridiculous! cant let batman have it's moment.. they always have something to say. go suck a dick PETA!

  19. Devin says – reply to this

    219

UGH. Batman doesn't kill humans, and the dogs were lucky not to receive the same damn treatment. As someone who has been fucking bitten in the face by a queensland shepherd, I completely support Batman NOT WANTING TO GET FUCKING BITTEN! haha. Shut the fuck up PETA, he hurt the dogs less than he hurt the guy he DROPPED FROM THE FIRE ESCAPE. Get mad about the HUMAN killings, why don't'cha?

  20. Eilee says – reply to this

    220

He knocked them out of the way. If he had a gadget to subdue them without really harming them, I'm pretty sure he'd be using them on the criminals too. It's a movie. Why don't they complain about people being blown up and stabbed while they're at it?

  21. Peach says – reply to this

    221

Hey PETA, It is just a movie. Get over it and focusing on more of real life animals out there rather than a movie. You need to take action on saving the real life animals rather yapping your mouth over nothing

hahah.. okay so does PETA want him to hit the dogs or make them explode with that awesome grenade launcher thingy? come on now… it could have been MUCH worse.

  24. 224

PETA really needs to pick it's battles. IT'S A MOVIE!!!!!!! Worry more about real life.

  25. Wie1f says – reply to this

    225

If you were being attacked by viscous dogs, how would you defend yourself? By being all friendly and fluffy? NO! You'd inflict some pain so the dogs would leave you alone. PETA needs to get more in touch with their own animal instincts. Fight or Flight.

  26. Doo-b says – reply to this

    226

I am the biggest animal lover out there, but Peta is turning itself into a laughing stock. I did cringe a little when the dogs were "hurt" but moved past it in 2 seconds. Why? Because its a fucking movie.

  27. miami says – reply to this

    227

that whole PETA bunch - talk about a nuisance. All they do is bitch and moan. Listen, when animals get hurt for real we'll look the other way at your annoying ways, probably even agree and support, but when it's just a fucking movie shut your bitchy attention hogging traps.

i have animals that i'd give my life for, including a DOG that is a spoiled brat and owns me practically, but i know fantasy from reality. i know the difference between a movie and hitting a dog in real life.

at any rate wtf would YOU do if you were about to get mauled in real life? pet the dog? piss off.

  28. Thelo says – reply to this

    228

Fu*k PETA they are horrible anyway. PETA puts to death more dogs a year then the american kennels. Also the leader of PETA uses insulin which was guess what tested for YEARS on animals…. thought they were against it but when you buy products that use animal testing you are supporting.

  46. ACAN says – reply to this

    246

Dude, 1) it is a movie, those dogs did not really get hit and 2) if a rottie attacked me like that, am I just supposed to let them, and not defend myself? It's a DOG sometimes they ATTACK, if they do, oh well for them.

Spokesperson for Ghonorrhea, ok, but animals…… Give me a break. Just because she doesn't eat meat doesn't make her a saint!
PETA has turned into a joke. Get over them!

  52. MELIS says – reply to this

    252

PERSONALLY I THINK THAT PETA IS A GOOD ORGANIZATION. THEY SHOULD HOWEVER FOCUS THEIR ENERGY ON ALL THE ANIMALS IN THE POUND, PET FARMS, FIGHTING RINGS, ETC. THEY NEED TO STOP BEING SO CONCERNED WITH SOMETHING THAT ISNT REAL. AND THAT ALSO INCLUDEDS PAMELA ANDERSON AND HER TITS…

  53. emmsy says – reply to this

    253

shouldn't they b worrying abt ACTUAL violence towards animals instead of CGI violence?! i love animals but if a dog was attacking me id totally punch it in the face!

  54. DANNY says – reply to this

    254

it's a freakin movie! should I contact PETA and tell them that it's just a movie in a nice manner like I had to tell my son when he kept getting scared of the JOKER??? WTF?!

  55. HAHA says – reply to this

    255

HAHAHAA—right when that scene happened I turned to my boyfriend and said "PETA isn't going to like that one". LOL…and sure enough…seriously they need to get a life…besides you don't know what happened to the dogs…I am sure they landed on a bed of roses and scampered off. I want to know why rottwillers were working for the Joker - they are only nice animals in real life why would they make them mean—geee—-The real question is why would any dog hurt Batman. STUPID FUCKS!!

  56. Judy says – reply to this

    256

Peta also secretly kills dogs every year by the hundreds. I don't take anything peta says serious. They are worser then terrorist itself truthfully. They can go fewker off.

  57. Linds says – reply to this

    257

peta needs to get a life!!! they didn't really hurt the dogs you idiots!! and why get mad when someone wears a shirt. its called freedom of speech. i love animals too!! but geez shut up!!!

  58. Laure says – reply to this

    258

yeah batman had to protect himself! it would have been worse to shoot little weapons at them. i think that would be bad. plus, the fact that bad guys would send dogs to get batman makes sense. they are too afraid of him, so they send killer dogs to attack. DUH!!

  59. Casey says – reply to this

    259

First of all people need to realize that movies are fictional! Like dogs really got hurt…get over it, and go after the people who actually hurt animals in real life bitches!

  60. Em says – reply to this

    260

i am against animal cruelity completely. vegan and everything but i do think that peta is over-reacting. it is just a movie and its themed from a comic book no less. they think a movie is horribl but evryday real animals r tortured and neglected.

  61. jones says – reply to this

    261

Nobody should pay attention to PETA. PETA is an organization of crazy, self-righteous, stupid fools.

  62. Emma says – reply to this

Re: tArDy – ur rite they shuld. at least it wont hav meat in it.

  63. Katie says – reply to this

    263

I can't believe I'm reading this. This is so stupid…do they not know that this is a movie? Seriously why does everything have to be so politically correct?

  64. 264

*rolls* eyes.. peta is always offended… they believe having a pet (even the LOVED spoiled ones) is a form of slavery to the animal. Right.

  65. Maria says – reply to this

    265

Peta is the most useless animal rights organization ever created. All they do is start a bunch of shit with hollywood and fast food places. If you want to find a good animal rights organization, go to the WWF or ASPCA, Peta is a waste and probably a cult.

  66. liz says – reply to this

    266

obviously they have way too much time on their hands…. they should focus on more important animal cases instead of a movie. clearly the producers/directors would not harm any of the dogs on set. Peta just wants to be in the public eye, so commenting on a movie will get them in the magazines and on PEREZ…

  67. Royce says – reply to this

    267

i've been a vegan for 6 years and i HATE peta. they're annoying and do more damage. they need to shut the fuck up.

  68. Karla says – reply to this

  70. brit says – reply to this

    270

Ok first of all peta is for b.s.l which is a legislation to ban pitbulls. Rottis etc. So they are willing to help ban these animals but when one seen has a little rotti voilence they over react? Fuck peta I am a huge pet lover and pitbull owner and I spit on peta!

  71. A* says – reply to this

    271

the dogs werent really hurt…geez PETA. batman was a good movie, just focus on that!

  72. s says – reply to this

    272

    Dear Peta,
    a: it is not real
b: what about all the HUMANS that are killed in the movie??

  73. eve says – reply to this

    273

people need to get over themselves and not be to PC it's a fucking movie for crying out loud. We don't push our values on them so they just just fuck off and leave us alone.

  74. 274

Oh for fuck's sake. Who cares if it was a movie or not. If something comes at you like that, you do what you have to do to stay alive. Naturally. That's what animals do.

  75. JENNA says – reply to this

    275

FIRST OFF…I'M TIRED OF PEOPLE CLAIMING TO BE "ANIMAL LOVERS" JUST BECAUSE THEY LOVE THEIR OWN DOGS/PETS….WHO DOESN'T LOVE THEIR OWN PETS..PLEASE…STOP CLAIMING THAT YOU CARE ABOUT ANIMALS JUST BECAUSE YOU LOVE YOUR DOG…YOU'RE NOT AN ANIMAL LOVER. PERIOD. THAT MEANS CARING ABOUT ALLLLLL ANIMALS….DUMB FUCK.
AND I'M TIRED OF PEOPLE BASHING PETA WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT PETA AND WHAT THEY DO. IF YOU KNEW WHAT WAS GOING ON IN THIS WORLD OUTSIDE OF YOUR OWN SELFISH UGLY FAT ASS YOU WOULD REALIZE THAT PETA IS EXTREME FOR MANY REASONS. THE PEOPLE THAT CHANGED THINGS IN THIS COUNTRY HAVE ALWAYS GONE TO EXTREME LENTGHS…ROSA PARKS WAS EXTREME…ETC ETC…THEY DON'T SIT QUIETLY…IF THEY DO NOTHING WILL CHANGE…WAKE UP DUMB AMERICANS. FUCKING THINK FOR ONCE.

    SECOND…

I THINK EVERYONE KNOWS THEY WEREN'T REALLY HURTING THE DOG IN REAL LIFE FOR THAT MOVIE….IT'S NOT ABOUT THAT….IT'S THE FACT THAT DUMB PEOPLE WILL GO HOME AND ABUSE THEIR OWN DOG FOR LAUGHS JUST BECAUSE THE MOVIE SHOWED IT…IT REMINDS PEOPLE THAT ANIMALS ARE DEFENSELESS AND HOW EASY IT IS TO RAISE A HAND AT AN ANIMAL…THERE'S ENOUGH ABUSE TOWARDS ANIMALS AS IS…WE DON'T NEED TO REMIND PEOPLE THAT YOU CAN BEAT ON SOMETHING INNOCENT IF YOU WANT…

    SINCERELY,
THE ONLY SMART HUMAN THAT "GET'S IT" LEFT ON THIS PLANET.

  76. EK says – reply to this

    276

Seriously. It's just PETA. They have problems

  77. Cool says – reply to this

    277

I don't remember the dog scene. I saw Batman a few days ago, but it seems my memory is failing me :( Could someone fill me in and explain it to me. Thanks!!

  78. Andre says – reply to this

    278

Serioiusy PETA…shut the fuck up. I am so tired of you wasting time on things that are not necessary like this. With all the horrible ongoing treatment of animals, you decide to focus on a movie where:

    1. The dogs were obviously not hurt in real life for crying out loud…but there are thousands of animals out there that are. Save them!!!!
    2. The dogs' characters were obviously trained to be evil and attack. When they do…what does a human do? Defend themself.
    3. It's not like he took a machine gun and blew them all up.

PETA, focus on something worthwhile for a change instead of focusing on shit like this. I hate falling back on the use of profanity…but FUCK you PETA. You don't do nearly as much good as you could be. Get it together and start standing for the correct things.

  79. youra says – reply to this

    279

i think peta should worry more about what ACTUALLY happens to animals, and less about what batman is doing in his movie…being that senseless numbers of animals are beaten and killed around the world…and batman is a fictional character. like, get a life. this is why everyone gets tired of peta real fast

  80. Leah says – reply to this

    280

I thought it wasn't needed for the dogs to be hurt like that, but peta is overreacting. They weren't supporting animal cruelty, he was just "defending himself." peta is stupid and they shouldn't even be an organization. SUPPORT THE ASPCA!!!

  81. espie says – reply to this

    281

that's ridiculous. PETA needs to learn how to pick and chose their battles

  82. jamie says – reply to this

    282

bullshit what the hell would you do if a dog attacked you??

i think we should let some dogs loose on PETA and then when they punch them we can criticize

  83. Chr* says – reply to this

    283

Omgosh its a fictional movie, they always seem to bitch about the stupidest things. I guarantee none of those dogs weren't actually harmed so their complaints are pretty pointless.

  84. ffs says – reply to this

    284

how ridiculous do these animal cruelty organisations get!?
right so all the HUMANS hurt in these films, thats alright i guess?
but a dog gets hit and all hell breaks loose?
    shitting hell.
theyre pathetic. get real PETA. theres caring for animals, then theres stupidity
youre way over the line into being beyond a joke.

  85. lins says – reply to this

    285

PETA is ridiculous - they were not really hurt…it's a fucking movie. What a bunch of grandstanding, publicity-seeking idiots.

  86. LisaL says – reply to this

    286

Of course it's PETA overreacting b/c they're all a bunch of crazy pussies who want to make a big deal out of nothing.
I swear, they act like it's REAL or something. Fucking worthless pieces of shit.

  87. lame says – reply to this

    287

PETA needs to STFU. its a fucking movie, they were not really harmed, give me a break. There are animals being abused left and right in the REAL world,go worry about that, not a fucking super hero movie

  88. um ok says – reply to this

    288

    Re: WANT

wow its just a movie, im sure the rats were not harmed

  89. Miran says – reply to this

    289

I will never support PETA in anything they do. PETA allows the killing of animals to make a statement, and promotes animal cruelty when it is right for their company. I don't believe that what was shown in Batman was horrendous. If anyone was being attacked by a group of dogs, I'm sure they would hard pressed not to hit the dogs as well, even if you are a superhero.

PETA needs to take a step back and examine their own cruelty, before they try and guilt trip actors and films into saying sorry.

  90. sarah says – reply to this

    290

I believe strongly in animal rights. All of my pets have been, are, and will always be rescues. However, I do not support PETA. Something about the incident where they picked up puppies and kittens from a shelter that they were supposed to find homes for, killed them, and tossed them all in a dumpster makes me sick. They are the biggest bunch of hypocrites out there.

And another thing, the dogs were attacking him. If Ingrid Newkirk and her compadres over at PETA would lke me to throw an enraged dog at them, I'll gladly do it. Let's see how they react to defend themselves

I'm a vegetarian and an animal rights actvist, but PETA always has to take things too far. This is a minute subject compared to the Michael Vick dog fighting or something of that capacity.

It is only a movie, there is no real bat cave or a batmobile. And unless dogs were injured while filming the movie, what's the big deal? Seriously people!!!!!

PETA has no room to complain…they kill animals too …when they can't afford to care for them because they spend millions in advertising. tell me who's worse…someone who depicts harm to a dog or some group that kills because they rather have priorities like advertising the next big complaint.

for crying out lout! PETA really needs to get a grip. Let's just pretend that this is real. Forget about the human and let the animals attack and possibly kill someone. I'm all about animal rights but when they are wrong throw them down the elevator shaft.

why doesn't PETA worry about people who are ACTUALLY punching dogs instead of a fictional movie character? no wonder no one takes PETA seriously anymore.

Oh come on! It is a freaking m o v i e. In this day and time no one in the movies will use a real dog in a fighting scene. Go home PETA or see The Dark Night! It's really good. =)
