No Love for Emos in Russia

Being an emo kid could be illegal in Russia soon!
The government is trying to pass a laws that would heavily regulate emo websites and ban emo and goth dress style in schools and government buildings.
The new laws are apparently being driven by fears that "emo" encourages depression and suicide.
There were mass protests by Russian emo kids this past weekend.
Dmitry Gilevich of Russian emo band MAIO said at a protest, "Expressing psychological emotions is not forbidden by law."
Poor emo kids!

these days, emo is nothing but a genre of music.
so fucking stupid. people seem to forget the true meaning behind the word.
emotional. if russia is going to try and ban people for being EMOtional, then they're going to have a pretty tough time considering everyone is emotional at one point in their life, or another.
and, people also need to realize that this post has NOTHING to do with my chemical romance.

i love you but why do you and for that matter everybody else associate gerard way of my chemical romance with emo. sure their band is always stereotyped as an emo band, but the band itse;f doesnt even characterize themselves as emo and hate it when people do. and for that matter perez, it seems like you of all people do not like stereotypes. just something to consider.
for everyone that says that emo 'sucks' or 'is stupid' or that emos are 'fags' or whatever sort of idiotic comment that you're going to make - you HAVE to remember that they are still people and they still have rights to express their creativity. eyeliner and skinny jeans don't make them much different from you.

My Chemical Romance bashers have got to go, Perez, you KNOW better than this. Gerard's living in LA and they're making Umbrella Academy movies? Can't we make Jared Leto the poster boy for Emo instead of Gerard? Let's leave Gerard alone. MCR's one of the best live bands on the planet. They've played in Russia, stop catagorizing them as EMO when they're such an original band? Way's lyrics are short of brilliant, akin to Bob Dylan's early works. Toro and Iero's guitar work, also brilliant styles. This band always draws the short end of the stick. The girls love them and the guys hate them for it.

Actually, for your information, a lot of English kids happen to be "emo". One of my closest friends is from England, and I told him about this and he said that he doesn't hate emos, nor do his friends. And the whole thing about Russian's hating on emo is stupid. Who really gives a shit? I mean, emo started off as a style of music, and there is nothing wrong with dressing that way. This is rediculous. They should just let people be! Second they aren't telling them how to feel, they're saying you can't dress as an emo and they're blocking the pro-suicide emo sites maybe if you got your news from credible sources you'd know that(not perez hilton). Third if you have to dress that way in order to express yourself, you're just proving them right, that emo is a subculture and a trend. Psychologists say that it's true not all emo's are suicidal and you don't have to be emo to commit suicide however trying to be apart of a subculture while in a depressed stage make you more likely to be suicidal and more likely to develop psychological problems. So sure not all emo's are depressed but the majority of suicidal teens are emo. If you call yourself an emo you deserve to be oppressed, since anyone who labels themselves and try to fit that label are retards and deserve to be oppressed. And to many other comments saying hipsters and baggy pants should be outlawed, "hipsters" don't promote depression and suicide, aswell the russian government is trying to lower teen pregnancies because emo promotes drug use and underage sex.

Emo came from emocore which stands for "emotional hardcore" or what some people say "emotive hardcore" which means the same thing look up emotive people. Well, not only are highschool stereotypes stupid and immature, but they shouldn't be used by people older than highschool age. Besides that, My Chemical Romance isn't even an emo band, they are post-hardcore. In addition, they are vehemently against suicide, which is evident if you listen to their lyrics or listen to anything that comes out of they're mouths.
