This is so sad, yet touching.
Reece Fleming was diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2004 when he was just 4 years old.
He battled the disease for years until this May, when doctors gave the 8 year old boy only a few weeks to live.
The family decided to try and help him achieve most of his goals before he would pass. And one of those was to marry his school sweetheart, Elleanor Purgslove.
Reece's mother said "When we found out that we only had a few weeks with him we tried to do absolutely everything with him that we could. Him and Ellie had been 'special friends' for a couple of years but then they broke up. We said we'd have a pirate party, and Ellie came. She went to visit Reece a few times in hospital as well."
Then during a recent laser tag party, Reece "proposed" to his little friend.
After she accepted, their parents arranged a pretend wedding at Reece's home (not the kids pictured above).
The families went out to dinner in the mayor's limousine and organized the wedding with rings and even a fictional certificate.
The kids got married on July 4th. And Reece told his mom, "I can go now," after his wedding wish had been fulfilled.
His mom added, "He was so proud of her, and we were proud of them both."
The following day after the wedding, Reece died at home with his family.
Soooooo sad!
During the funeral, the mourners followed a horse-draw hearse on foot.
His mom added, "Even on the Saturday that he died, he got out of bed and walked to the sofa. He always tried walking, right to the end, so we thought if he walked for us then we would walk for him."
What an amazing little boy.
Very touching and sad. May his soul be at peace.

On a different note.. This was a great story. It is so good that this little boy had great parents who really loved him to do this for him. In a way that got on of their dreams, seeing there little boy get married. This world needs more parents like them and less like Hanna!

That totally made me cry, that is the cutest, saddest thing I've ever read. I think its so nice to see that the parents of those kids put in the effort to make his last few weeks the best ones ever.
the story defently brought a tear to my eye. That is a nice thing that the families did for that little boy.
While it was pretend to you, it was quite possibly not pretend to them since the excessive parental involvement. Adults want to pretend that young people don't have the same emotions as adults but they are wrong as exampled by suicide rates for teens. It is their excessive hormones that causes the outrageous feeling of being in love and biologically are more in love than two 30 year old. You invalidate these children as if they don't feel love, which makes you morons. This additional and excessive step by the parents may very well be damaging to the little girl. Why couldn't the two kids have been allowed to play their own wedding instead of parental involvement? Oh, I know, because as sad as it is the parents were losing a child long before he should have passed and by doing so risk potentially victimizing this little girl.

ARE Y'ALL NUTS! This is NOT beautiful…can you imagine the feelings of this poor little girl. At her age, did she expect the boy to die the next day? How can her young emotions handle all this. In her mind, she was playing wedding and that probably meant (to her) that all would be ok in the end (as it goes in the fairy tales she is probably still reading). This makes a wonderful Lifetime movie, but it's real life with a real little girl who I am sure is not mature enough to handle it. People really need to think before they do stupid things to their kids. Sure, the little boy got his last wish - yay for him! What about her? no doubt there were days and days of preparation - they even had a cake for crying out loud! She was all dolled up. And now her pretend husband is dead?!?!?! Y'all are as crazy as those stupd-ass parents of hers (his I have no problem with as they were just giving him what he wanted).
There is NO ampout of preparation that they could have given this porr young girl for this tragedy.

of course it's sad that this kid died - but INNOCENT KIDS DIE EVERY DAY YOU MORONS! more importantly, this totally says somethign about our society - and how fucking sad it is how childern our now growing up much too fast - little kids having "boyfriends and girlfirends" "going steady" blah blah blah - its not cute - it's sad! And don't even get me started on the FORCED GENDER ISSUES. BLAH!
I suppose this is a very sweet story. Of course the loss of a child is heart breaking, it doesn't matter if the kid wanted to fly a plane or marry his "sweetheart".
But I do agree it is a very odd thing when a parent of an EIGHT year old boy reveals that she let her son have a "special friend" and they had broken up. I would find it very disturbing if I knew my eight year old son had a girlfriend and was already thinking about dating and marriage, even if it was all just innocent fun. They're just kiddddssss. And kids are sexually curious when they're young. Who knows what could happen when they get together and have in their mindset that they're a couple.
What's going to happen to this poor girl when she grows up? What if she grows up and feels guilty about dating someone because she already "married" someone. Hopefully she comes to understand that the boy was dying and wanted to do something crazy before he left the world.

Ok - so I re-read and see that the picture is not of the real kids…but in the story they mentioned "rings" and a "fake certificate" and a "limo ride to dinner" and a "laser tag ceremony." Then he dies the next day…

I read this and yes it is sad. and the parents both of them are to be commended for giving this little guy his last wish, and yes the parents of this little girl will help her. Someday that little girl will remember and smile cause she did something good for someone and I'd be willing to bet his family keeps in close contact with hers. All tho it was PRETEND. it was sweet. I am perfectly capable of reading, thank you very much. Do you see what this "pretend" wedding entailed? This is not a fairy tale for the little girl where she can re-read the story over and over. Yes, she knows it was a pretend wedding, but her friend that she echanged rings with…exchanged fake certificates with…had probably her first lime ride with died….THE NEXT DAY!

hearing stories like this, remind us of how special life truly is. It def made me cry-there was no might about it. Reece is a brave boy, and what he faced is…wow, he's more brave than i could ever be. it makes me kind of think about…how we complain about little things in our life, and others are battling life or death situations. God bless him and his family and friends.

It's not sweet, it's just kind of creepy. You can't just use another child as an object to fulfill the well-meaning but naturally immature desires of a very young kid. how will that little girl see it later? when she wants to really get married, will she feel like she has to view it as her second marriage? losing a friend is traumatic enough, especially at such a young age - why make her feel even more bound to a dead childhood friend?

Amen. The boy's parents got exactly what they wanted, but the girl's parents? Not so much. None of us have any idea what kind of effect this will have on the little girl and from reading the reponses about how wonderful the little boy was, none of you are even considering that effect. Everyone is thinking that it will work out the way it does in the movies. Maybe the little girl WILL be ok, and that would be great, but there is the very real possibility that the EIGHT YEAR OLD GIRL will not be a blt to handle it. And for that reason, I fault her parents for the length that they allowed this "ceremony" to go to.

kinda similar despite the age difference was on the tv show Dinner: Impossible last night, a girl was getting married and it was supposed to be 8 months from now but her dad was diagnosed with Lung Cancer and was given a short window to live so they moved everything up in like 5 weeks span and had the wedding so her father could be there and walk her down the isle. It is definitely more about making someones final wishes come true then the actual event, like the little boys "pretend marriage". I think it is all very sweet
