This Might Make You Cry

kids.jpg

This is so sad, yet touching.

Reece Fleming was diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2004 when he was just 4 years old.

He battled the disease for years until this May, when doctors gave the 8 year old boy only a few weeks to live.

The family decided to try and help him achieve most of his goals before he would pass. And one of those was to marry his school sweetheart, Elleanor Purgslove.

Reece's mother said "When we found out that we only had a few weeks with him we tried to do absolutely everything with him that we could. Him and Ellie had been 'special friends' for a couple of years but then they broke up. We said we'd have a pirate party, and Ellie came. She went to visit Reece a few times in hospital as well."

Then during a recent laser tag party, Reece "proposed" to his little friend.

After she accepted, their parents arranged a pretend wedding at Reece's home (not the kids pictured above).

The families went out to dinner in the mayor's limousine and organized the wedding with rings and even a fictional certificate.

The kids got married on July 4th. And Reece told his mom, "I can go now," after his wedding wish had been fulfilled.

His mom added, "He was so proud of her, and we were proud of them both."

The following day after the wedding, Reece died at home with his family.

Soooooo sad!

During the funeral, the mourners followed a horse-draw hearse on foot.

His mom added, "Even on the Saturday that he died, he got out of bed and walked to the sofa. He always tried walking, right to the end, so we thought if he walked for us then we would walk for him."

What an amazing little boy.

Awww! Thats so sad!!! I bet it was heartwrenching to his mom! Why do they have to die young?
P.S. For those who don't know leukaemia is blood cancer I think. You can get it when you're old too.

Dearest Hanna…. SHUT THE FUCK UP! He was 8 and it was a pretend wedding! We all know what goes into a marraige… we dont need you letting us know and ruining a prefectly sweet/sad story about a dying child who wanted to "marry" his sweetheart. Ugh. PRICKS!

    Re: Hanna
your stupid. if you click on the fucking thing that "said" thing, it tells you more and they don't fucking live in America you dip shit. "Mackworth, Derby." THE UK YOU FUCKING RETARD. he wanted to marry her because its the one thing he wanted to do when he was older and he KNEW he wouldn't get the FUCKING opertunity. you are so low to say that he shouldn't have married her. IF you were dying at any age and you weren't married I'm pretty sure you would want to marry the one you were in love with. and yeah he was 8 so what love comes at so many different ages. you are fucking stupid.

Sorry for my language but it makes me very angry people that don't appreciate the fact he was trying to do something he knew he couldn't do at an older age cause he would never have the opportunity

okay to hanna…as if they really got married and are in it for the long haul they knew his life would be ending and it was his wish..its sad when young people die cuz they dont get that chance..esp at 8 yrs old…the girl will be fine..they are probably connected and will meet in heaven and the after life..grow up people its a sweet sentimental story…it wasnt like a real marriage anyways..as if 8 yr olds can live together as a married couple…good for the families sorry to hear of their loss….what a sweet story in a world full of shit!

  21. Stupi says – reply to this

    421

That is a really stupid story! The last thing on an 8 year old boy's mind is getting married. If this is even true the only reason he felt like that is probably because he heard his parents talk about how he would never get married. Doesn't it make sense that an 8 year old boy would rather spend his last days on earth at Disney World rather than getting married.

  22. Mel says – reply to this

    422

Re: mer – I don't see how honoring this boy's last wishes is "pushing the envelope." So, doing something that doesn't push the envelope is more important than making his last moments on Earth precious?

I'm sorry to be the only adult here, but this is sick, sick, sick.

I mean. All of us feel terrible when a child is sick. But to expose the "living" little girl to this is more barbaric than anything I have ever heard. I hope she is getting the entire "estate." Or. Did she not have a good lawyer for the "pretend" prenup?

My God. Parenting is not a game.

  29. Gabby says – reply to this

    429

Your right! It did make me cry. What a brave little guy he was. It makes me feel so guilty for all the stupid little things I complain about. May he RIP that brave, sweet little angel!

  30. 430

There have been times that my stance, on a certain topic, was able to be swayed by the views and educated opinions of other respondents. This is NOT one of those times.
I realize that a vast majority of respondents, on this site, range from……
    1. children (who are home alone, during the Summer….and, they don't have any friends to hang out with, so we are stuck with them), to….
    2. 'wannabe children, again' to…
    3. 'THANK GAWD, they don't have children'.

And, then …there are the rest of us.

Children are a gift. Any parent (without narcissistic tendencies) would do anything and everything, they can, for their child(ren). To say that 8yo's have no idea about adult topics, such as marriage….is proving that you, yourself, are more juvenile than an 8yo. Take a psychology course, or two…children learn about life from inside the home. If they see 2 parents, who love, respect and compliment each other, they will want to emulate. And, of course, if all they see is hatred, violence and self-deprecation, in their home….they will emulate that, as well.

In a World, where innocent children are being killed for their sneakers, bicycles and gangland drive-by shootings…and, parents aren't able to say goodbye, until they identify their little bodies in the morgue….granting their child, his/her dying wish, is a privilege that most parents never get.

  33. Gabri says – reply to this

    433

beebo : i can understand where you are coming from, however…

i'm sure this little girl (when she is older) will be happy to hear that she was able to help this brave little guy fulfill his dreams. i think "barbaric" is rather harsh - would't you say?

if her mama and daddy said it's "OK", then it's all good.

relax and pour yourself a glass of wine.

  34. kate says – reply to this

    434

Lol that's my only answer to the ones calling me heartless bitch… why would an 8 year old girl have to go through all of this and live with that trauma for the rest of her life? It's hard for me to deal through someone passing out and i'm in my 20's I bet for an 8 year old is really really hard! That "pretend" wedding was unnecesary and that's my pov, that won't make me heartless or bitchy, that's just my pov! I am not gonna answer with insults and such because I am bigger and better than that so lol to the ones who think I am that way because non of you really know me and really knows how is it to deal with cancer at that young age and having kids… as I said I doubt any of you would push your 8 year old to go through all of this, marriage and then be a widow, that's cruel and hopefully that lil girl will get all the attention she deserves after her loss. I am really hoping her parents are not like you guys feeling sorry just for Reece, I hope they realize what a big trauma she must have to live with.

  35. kate says – reply to this

  39. Phoeb says – reply to this

    439

You're all sobbing over this story? I think it's sick that the parents went through with this. Yes sometimes our lives end prematurely, but squeezing a wedding in - that young? just wrong

    440

Re: Phoeb – someones a jerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrk

  41. 441

wtf is wrong with some of you people?
first of all, yes - its sad that this young boy died
    but INNCOCENT CHILDREN DIE EVERYDAY
some of you find this whole "pretend" marriage "cute"
it's anything BUT cute - in fact it's pretty f'd up
and i agree with those that term it "sick" -
    because it is . . .
in many many ways the "article" and the pathetic comments on it
are a sad sad reminder of just how fucked up our society has become
    that's what makes me cry!
let me guess, this little girl probably got an easy bake oven and an apron for xmas -
    I WEEP FOR OUR FUTURE!

  42. Twist says – reply to this

  49. 449

i think it was a great idea to fulfill a childs last need. I dont think the little girl would take it as marrying a dead boy, its more of the fact that she did something he wanted her to do before he died, and it was more of honoring a wish, and making him happy before he died. So sad, and i was touched by reading this story.

Re: bulletproof_betty – An 'easy bake oven and apron'?? Oh, Christ….you are either a women's libber or one of those who run or volunteer in a battered women's shelter, aren't you? Yeah, I would bet anything, that you are one or the other.
If you are a libber…..keep in mind that not all females want the same thing, and at the same time. If we did….every store would be out of tampons and maxi's w/wings, one week per month. Not to mention…the midol and chocolate aisle, would need to be restocked.
If you are associated with a shelter….I had always thought that you were a worthwhile cause. Until, my husband and father-in-law tried to drop off a crib and infant needs….and, they didn't even want a tax receipt. They were abused and insulted, simply because they were men. To this day, I refuse to donate to a battered women's shelter.
