Wow. I'm not against having a big family (and that means 5-6) seeing as how I want 3 or 4, but anything over that's a bit much.
If you can homeschool your kids and they test above average great, but you're also denying them the social interaction (and no interacting with your 17 siblings doesn't count) that EVERYONE needs to be able to function in the real world.
If THEY want to have more kids fine but they'd better not expect any sympathy when and if one of or some of the kids wig out due to a lack of attention.

These people are not Mormon. Why do so many of you think it's okay to insult Mormons and other religious groups just because they do things differently than you? You get so hopped up when ANYONE mentions that they don't like the way homosexuals live, yet you're so willing to insult and make fun of the religious people in the world? Maybe I don't neccessarily agree with what these people are doing. I don't like the idea of having that many kids, mostly because I would worry that I couldn't give individual attention to each child, but I would never call them stupid or brainwashed or any other digusting and vulgar term. Maybe some of us prefer not to have kids, to have one or two, to stay single, or to simply marry and travel the world and whatnot. But these people have chosen this lifestyle for their own reason. As long as they can support themselves and are teaching their kids to be good kids, maybe you ought to leave them alone.
OK, several things that raise a red flag here:
1.) How is this possible for the human body?
2.) At what point does her doctor step in and say "Alright, enough is enough…you cannot physically handle it anymore." ?
3.) Isn't there just ONE KID in the bunch that's like "Fuck this. You suck" to their parents and siblings.
4.) Why won't they just adopt?
5.) Are they making money off of this?

My mum had twelve brothers and sisters when she was growing up and it did her no harm. In fact, it is great having so many aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family did not get any help from the government, they both worked and had help at some home with a cook, gardener etc. but they brought the children up themselves. They have all gone on to have good jobs and none have any more than five children. This is not because they had a bad experience growing up just because it's their choice, what they can afford etc.
This family look like they have a great house and if they worked for it themselves fair enough. The children look fine and to be honest I think it looks like fun to grow up in their family. Maybe there are things we are not seeing but on that you can't judge. Personally, I would probably think about adopting if I wanted that many kids but people have done worse things.
I wrote a post above but just noticed somebody said these kids are homeschooled. I do think that changes things. In my opinion some kids I know who have been homeschooled/do not interact with kids much outside school really suffer and end up getting bullied etc. when they do intergrate. They seem to look at things in a very one-sided way (i.e. the way their parents have told them things are) and this doesn't bode well if they end up thinking that it's ok for EVERYONE to have 18 kids!!!

So what if they're self-sufficient? That doesn't make overbreeding okay. My husband and I are self-sufficient, we don't use credit cards, we live within our means, and we only have one child. Nobody gave US a tv show. BECAUSE WE AREN'T FREAKS LIKE THAT. That's all these people are — self-absorbed, self-righteous freaks. Real "Christians" don't stomp all over the earth and make a big deal about how everybody else should be more like us. Real Christians are responsible, socially integrated, liberated, contributing members of society. The Duggers are just sad.
