bennigansrestaurant.jpg

It happened overnight and without warning!

Effective immediately all Bennigan's restaurants are closed for business.

The chain owns and operates around 800 Bennigan's across America.

Yet another major blow to the economy!

OK People. Check out Perez to laugh at celebs, but please seek other sources for your financial news. Bennigans is closing has less to do with a slumping economy (not recession), and more to do with the fact the media company that owns the stores violated terms of a lending agreement with GE capital. This violation is leaving them with little choice other than going bankrupt.

BTW, this only applies to the company owned franchises, not individually owned stores.

Just one more thing, economists classify a recession as TWO consecutive quarters of negative economic growth. We have not yet had even one quarter of negative growth yet.

Is Bennegans an east coast chain? I've never heard of it….

  8. 108

Duh. The main chain filed for BANKRUPTCY. Metromedia violated terms of loans. This does not include privately owned FRANCHISES. It has NOTHING to do with the economy.

My roommate's boyfriend runs all but one Bennigans in our metro area and she knew nothing about it until I called. He was kept in the dark until this morning. Imagine how many hundreds of people that puts out of work in each city. And all those servers live hand to mouth- rent's due in 4 days…

It takes a restaurant chain of this size a long time to fail. Management probably started getting worried a good three years ago at least. It's not a result of today's economy.

GOOD FOR THE FUCKERS! Last year I took my family there for dinner. It was 6pm and the fucking bar was BLASTING some god forsaken Death Metal. I complained to the manager and he said, "I see you're almost done with dinner so there's no need to turn it down for everyone else." The fucker was serious.

    117

Screw Shennangians!!! Worked there for 4 years… they went bankrupt because they started doing 599 lunches with drinks included on 10 different items. Once that stopped, so did the people. Management was borderline retarded…. I wouldve loved to burn it down myself but their turkey o tooles are like crack cocaine. I called one of my friends who still worked there and they called her out this morning saying "A water line broke". Douches…. at least tell employees theyre jobless!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

clearly i havent felt the effects of the "recession" as you democrats like to call it… and im just an average jane (on the way lower end of average, making just entry level money) like the rest of you idiots… difference is that i have a brain.
OH.. and BTW!!! I drive a brand new SUV that guzzles gas….. how do i pay for it you ask? must be all that disposable income i have!! :) fuck off democrats

It also makes me sick that you and other celebrities preach what u want and always think you are right, when more then half the people realize ur just making urself look dumb. U should watch what u say about our country and our president b4 u become just like the dixi chicks. But on a positive note i do like ur site please stop talking politics, didnt your mother teach you nothing good ever comes from arguing politics?

only since your favorite restaurants closing you have noticed this economy crisis?
really it all basically started when the house market became a buyers market & gas went up because of greedy corporate execs

It was obvious we were going into another recession/depression.

I still mourn the loss of The Black Eyed Pea restaurants years ago. They had the best hot wheat rolls and a honey mustard sauce I can't duplicate.

NOT Surprised!!! The last 3 times I went to Bennigen's it sucked. The service was slow, the food sucked and too pricey for what shit you got. They stretched their menu too far and ceased to be an "Irish-American" restaurant.

  29. Hhunt says – reply to this

    129

Sorry Perez but this one is just NOT TRUE. After reading this post I immediately called my local Bennigans (Ann Arbor, MI) to see if they were open. They were in fact open and we went to lunch there today. No one at the restaurant has heard anything of this impending closure.

Slow down on the economic commentary Mario. Piss poor businesses should fail in a free market economy. When the last time you ate at a bennigans? this is now an opportunity for an entrepreneur to step and create a great new chain to fill the void.

It's a shame another chain of restaurants, bites the dust.

Obama becoming, President, can't happen soon enough!

    1. At least, BO will increase taxes, which always spurs economic growth, providing more jobs, just like in France or in Detroit, NY or NJ.

    2. Of course, no drilling anywhere, will ultimately help increase supply and the price of gasoline will go down in ten short years or so.

    3. Socialized medicine will be as good as it is in Europe and Canada, and

    4. America can finally get serious about global warming. Just because China drills off of our shores doesn't mean USA should follow in suit. There were no oil spills after Katrina, but, a spill could happen! America must go back to basics and stop being wasteful.

    5. Our troops will be brought home immediately from Iraq. It's just silly to think that AlQueda thought America surrendered….I believe, they'll like us when Bush is thankfullly gone.

Oh Obama, you are the one we've waited for.

Perez, why don't you fact check your stories.
They are NOT closing 800 stores. They have 800 stores total, closing 300 of them and they are NOT all Benningans. Company owned stores will be closing. Franchise operations will not be closing unless of course they file on their own.

Please take more of an interest in your stories before posting them. As I have seen many times, you simply post incorrect stories and of course people believe what they read so they are non the wiser…

Re: kelly – consumption.. yeah - spending money is what drives economy. im not pinching every penny i own because democrats are using scare tactics to make us think we're in a recession - which by definition WE ARENT.
and you say working class like its something to be proud of! how is it my fault i went to college and didnt have a child at 20 years old? as for coming from a working class family - my father did work in the steel mills to put himself through college to come out as a teacher making $6000/year…. could you IMAGINE that??????? 6000 f'ing dollars a year….where workers in the mill made TWICE that… where he and my mom had to scrounge and save to buy a pizza on a friday night…
he was a registered democrat then… and you'd think he would vote that way now if the economy is so bad and they were so focused on helping everyday people. however, he now votes republican.

The stores that are owned by Metromedia have CLOSED! There are some that are indepentently owned that are still open. This is a big to the economic situation due to the fact that alot of people are losing their jobs. Everyday a corporation is laying off more people. The President needs to realize that we are becoming at a fast rate a third world country.

Steak and Ale too? :( - I guess it's time to start a diet!

Restaurant chains Bennigan's and Steak & Ale have filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection and stores owned by its parent company will shut their doors.

The companies owned by privately held Metromedia Restaurant Group of Plano, Texas, filed for bankruptcy protection on Tuesday in the Eastern District of Texas, less than two months after Metromedia said it was not preparing to do so. It wasn't clear whether franchisee-owned restaurants would be closing as well.

I only know bennigan's from a mention on a tv show. locally for me in louisville,ky all of the ponderosa's have closed (they've been disgusting & substandard for years). a friend told me they filed bankruptcy & are done. Apparently no one in corp. wants the customers to know b/c the local one by me says it's closed, but for remodeling. IHOP has just popped up here & their corporation is supposed to have bought all nationwide Applebee's & are turning all Applebee's into IHOP's. Applebee's suck. Does anyone remember/ have ever eaten at Remmington's? There were several locations here in Louisville (it's like Applebee's) but the food, service, everything sucked & they closed up after like 5 yrs. They were popular with college kids for cheap food.
